The last two situations had me on the edge of my seat. I think the last guy wanted to show you his 12” single…😂😂😂 So glad you survived, we need you and the records and videos. ✌
Dillon, this was hands-down the best Vinyl Community video i have EVER seen - OMG!!! So glad you made it out of those situations to live to tell about them!!! Northern New Jersey loves you :)
Dude, you were right about just taking Benadryl. When I lived in Southern California I got bit by a spider and started having awful cramps and the same symptoms as you. I went to the ER and guess what they said….take Benadryl you’ll be fine. Lol
This is exactly the type of situations my parents were worried about when I used to go to stranger’s homes to buy records! I’d always tell them “it’s okay I know what I’m doing” or something like that 🤣
The reason why I love your channel is your storytelling skills. I can really feel the passion and your descriptive skills are so vivid and visual that you are able to take us there at the actual scene by imagination. Well done mate!
Just found your channel and I’ve been enjoying your content. This video hit home for me (literally). I live in NC as well, while there are a lot of crazy people in the world generally, some of the people here in the small towns of NC are a special flavor of wacko that keeps me looking over my shoulder, refusing drinks, and declining dinner invitations. Not just with records, but it seems like anytime someone is selling something it’s in their damn basement!
I like how the scandalous underwear guy spooked you more than the guy shooting at ya! I think I would have been the same way ...especially post Silence Of The Lambs era. lol
Wow… 😂 Damn, Dillon. Glad ya made it out of those situations. A lotta weirdos out there, man. I’ve bought my share of collections, but there was one I went to see where all the records were in the garage and his living room. He said something like, “all the good records are in the basement”. (Those damn basements! lol) Sounded a bit fishy, and I was getting weird vibes from the guy anyway. He kept asking how much $ I brought with me. Told him I’d be back with a uhaul or my friends truck, and never went back…
dude The fact you talk about finding these records so casually. In Australia it's WAY harder to find anything good and I end up forking out big prices for the big brands. hope I can find the holy grail someday though. glad you're safe as well
Plenty of digging to do in South Australia... guess it depends where you are. I've had a lot of good stuff falling in my lap this last year or two. Luckily I don't have any life threatening tales to tell - just a few creepy ones.
Thanks. That's actually important info. I recently turned down an offer to go into the basement to look at records at a person's house out in the country.
After hearing this, glad I bought all the vinyl I wanted back when it was released, or when chain record stores were around in the 1970's/1980's, and I bought new releases/reissues from those places (like "Musicland"). Have nearly 600 LPs in my collection, before I switched to the CD format in 1984. Always enjoy your videos here!
How many cds did the store have first time you seen them? When I seen the first cd player on display at Sears they only had 1 cd to sell, Pink Floyd dark side. Then few weeks later they added John cougar uh huh cd.
@@kensims4086 Bought my first CD player at Sears in 1984. They had a small display in the back corner of the record section, maybe 20 or so titles (back when they came in those large clear plastic blister packs. I bought The Police "Synchronicity" and Madonna "Like A Virgin" the day I bought the player. Still have them.
Haha great video. Who knew saying you have records for sale at your house would be a way people used to take advantage of people. Now we know. Thanks Dylan.
Dillan no, he wasn’t a nice guy, Mr. Charlie was about to break you off, you did the right thing by getting the hell outta there man!!! You do need to write a book Tales of the unknown Record Collector. The Black Widow and gun story was truly giving it all for your passion. Way to go to live to tell the tale and all of this has fueled your success!!!
This could have been a Halloween 🎃 episode it was spooky, full Dahlmer vibes … myself I have dug in basements, garages, less than hygienic circumstances, but never attacked, worst situation was an elderly couple who chain smoked and their living room was foggy with cigarette smoke, and so were the records lol, it’s all fun digging in Canada eh
wow, crazy! Two of those situations likely wouldn't have happened or been as bad here in Canada. I wouldn't even have to consider the hospital cost (might die in the waiting room though lol).. and guns!.. never seen one, don't know what you're talking about. LOL
if you could turn the camera around on your viewers of this, all you'd see is thousands of those michael jackson eating popcorn memes. crazy crazy stories
That dude that said he could shoot you and say you broke into his house is wrong. I have my concealed carry ... he would still have to prove self-defense. You are right about being shot in the back. If he shot you in the back, it could show that you were running or not being aggressive to him. In North Carolina, you can not shoot someone for simply robbing your house or car without a weapon.
@Noble Records yeah definitely not a good situation. It was a good choice to walk out of there. I definitely couldn't have called the bluff in that situation.
For a long time I was looking for Bola Sete's "Ocean" album on vinyl. This was back before the internet. One night I checked for it at the old Django Records in Portland OR. They didn't have it, as they and the other stores I checked had not had it (for months). Next morning I was at a bus stop and spent a long time talking to a homeless dude. This cheered the dude up. We had a good conversation. And then that night I went back to Django and they had the album. Karma?
I have though tthee same thing when going into basements. I also sell real estate so that same feeling has overcome me even when touring a home to sell.. I try not to enter the basement first.. great stories..
Your 3rd story reminds me of a EP of Two And Half Men 9th season where Walden is naked and he sits down on the couch to check his mail Allen and Jake are sitting on the couch with the WTF look.
Only dicey situation I ever went into was in a housing project. I knew the dude from the flea market but kept putting off going to his apartment because I knew the reputation of that place. I finally went over there and thankfully there wasn't any issues. He did have some amazing Jazz and Soul as he had said but the conditions were awful. I don't think I bought anything actually.
The basement is the worst place to store LPs. Moreover, if these incidents happened in today’s society you would have to report it to the proper authorities before it happens to someone else. Too many creeps out there today. We’re not same anywhere. I’ve had several encounterments over the years while in unpleasant situations. Be aware of your surroundings and keep a keen eye on the possibility of an escape route.
I collect records myself I have been for years I've been into some shady places myself but I've never been in a basement and I'm not going to ever go into one after hearing your stories
But at the end of the day, these people DID have records. Imagine going down to the basement for records and seeing no records.
That would somehow be way worse 🤣
Hahaha 🤣

YUP! Saved thousands!
Which is weird because if you take too much Benadryl people report hallucinating spiders. Never done it myself but I've heard it isn't fun.
Let's start a band and call it The Scandalous Undergarments.
Great stories, man. Thanks for sharing them.

I would, but I keep breaking my G string
Great stories! You gotta tell us more. I’ve always been nervous about going to a stranger’s house to buy records, you’re a lot braver than me.
Great storytelling & good reminders to stay aware & safe. Thanks for sharing these!
Holy crap, Dillon! Those are really crazy stories! I'm glad you aren't taking those same risks. You're a lucky man!!!
