It's worth it to encourage Asus to step up their quality and Samsung their UI, bloat, feature\accessory deletion & treatment of customers. There's a reason you mention the FE - it is their only phone left without most of their terrible compromises of late. FE might only be $80 cheaper and by the time you pay all your interest or however else if you're financing, possibly more. The 21 FE will still have the terrible SD 888 & will 6 GB RAM, instead of 8 GB (the more RAM, the harder to slow you down).
This phone is my current dream phone. The only things I dont like about it are the tall aspect ratio and its price. If it was 1 or 2 cm shorter and 400€, I would absolutely buy it. I especially love the awesome 4.4x zoom. But I can't afford it and I needed a new phone now. Which is why I just bought a used Pixel 4a. Maybe in 2 years when the price of the Xperia 5 III comes down a bit, I will be able to afford it and I will give it a try!
Just when I was looking to buy it the market has changed dramatically since it was released with some massively spec heavy releases from its competitors.

GSMArena, could you, possibly, inquire with Sony about the software support? I am seriously considering the purchase of this device, but I am afraid of getting only one major update. This would be unacceptable for this price. I know that Sony claims to provide two, but it's a manipulation. The device will launch with an outdated OS version. Updating to Android 12 after the device is launched with an outdated Android 11 (by the time this phone reaches the customers) is highly unfair. Therefore, the real two major updates would be if Sony updated it to Android 14 as well. Could you do this for me? ❤️
@@speedemon1992 yes man, but this device is launched with android 11. They count update to android 12 as a major update. I am afraid that they will stop at 13 and not update it further.
your assumption about sony update is correct, and if you really care about software update, you better pick another phone, they are always give two major update if launch outdated version or one year update if phone is release in the same time as new android version come (Xzs, Xz1, Xz3, and probably xperia 5 too)
What do you mean by overpricing? Sony has the same price as similarly spec'd phones. 256 GB iPhone, S21 Ultra, & X1 III, all same price, while including features and accessories the other two have gotten rid of- for example. They don't play the same shell games to make people think they're getting a discount, as the competition and the price goes down slower. Oh right, when iPhones hold their value better, people say they're worth it.
At least iPhone has 5 years of support and devs go all out on their apps, so $1200 is ridiculous. Really to me, any 2-3 year built in obsolescence device over $600 is too expensive. So I do think it is too expensive, but the key here, is I think they all are.
If you want a compact high end device this is probably the best option but imo they should've cut down the battery to give it better cooling. 4000mah is more than enough on the 5ii. And the sd888 should be more efficient. The 5iii is a let down if they didn't improved the speaker quality, screen and vibration motor. I'd rather get the 5ii instead of this if you can get it below the 550€.
I had to ask, does the experia 5mark3 have the video pro app? Went to Sony store but the sales people don't seem to know if it's there. Only 1mark4 or the pro-i has it

That guy always remember me icarly girl. I think this time sony don't care to much with xperia 5 III like last year, not even see another youtubers covers that easily people won't think there's not exist, the focal point this year on sony was on xperia 1 III.
I'm now wondering, did they improve the telephoto picture quality via software or is this how it is ? Like the 5 III is better. Because that would be great if software improved things this way. The 5 III is really good overall, very capable while small enough. They did a great job, again.
it's literally just processing tweaking, the longer the lifespan of a camera censor the more and more developers are able to squeeze out of them as time goes on since they are continuously trying to refine the code. This is why my Nokia 6.1 2018 was only JUST surpassed in image quality last year, because Nokia are the kings of number crunch for censors and processing whereas pretty much all the other phone companies leave that to android

Maybe you could consider the Xperia 10iii.
400€ for these specs? Lol
700-800$ perfect for the specs
Get the Xperia 5ii you can get them for around £330 and no much difference.
I agree I wish they made this phone but with closer to a 19x9 screen, a few cm shorter. My Samsung s10e is a nicer size but that could also be shorter
Just when I was looking to buy it the market has changed dramatically since it was released with some massively spec heavy releases from its competitors.
Sony if you're reading this comment, please bring it to India.
They won't. They have zero market in premium segment in India for years now. Sony also doesn't have India listed for its smartphone segment.
@Makelele Toulalan Not true.Everyone buys Xiaomi because of the best specs in low price.Like poco x3/pro and F3.People who will buy an expensive phone will go for iPhone or Samsung. Why?Because Samsung and Apple pays a lot to RUclipsrs for promotion and everyone ignores Sony.
My 5 II is still a boss. Super happy with it, no signs of any slowdown. I would buy Sony again in the future. Also no holes or notches in the screen like other stupid phones.
Hi Narek... I returned my Xperia 5 III because it easily gets warm and uncomfortable to use and I'm not into gaming though... I'm reconsidering buying the Xperia 5 II once I get the refund because its Soc SD865 has better thermals than SD888... But before my purchase I have a question...
Does your Xperia 5 mark II does heat up while doing simple apps like facebook, IG, Chrome? Thanks in advance...
The phone looks amazing. But it isn't compact at all:(
That was the thing i loved about Sony, their compact line and in the last couple of years that seems to be lost.
No hole or notch? Definitely interested. For the price I wish it had wireless charging though. If this was a slightly shorter aspect ratio closer to 16:9 I'd probably buy it on impulse. It's very tall though and not really a compact phone. It's about as wide as my pixel 4 but like 1/2” inch taller.
I have 5 II and I fell love with this firm factor. And anyone that I showed it to. You have extra vertical space which is awesome for keyboard and browsing web.
@@songokussj4cz not to mention split screen. Being able to watch RUclips and have almost a full size screen for social media or whatever else is so damn useful.
21:9 is awesome.
I hope the Xperia 5 IV will have a brighter screen. I'll upgrade then from my OnePlus 7T. My 7T has a max brightness of 743 nits but I find that to be insufficient at times.
what you need is a new set of eyes
Great video👍 which one you like more the Oneplus nord 2 or sony xperia 5iii?
This is a comparison that pretty much only depends on your budget
Why no mention of if or not it has a dedicated RGB LED notification?
and no tool needed to remove the sim tray
@@vanfanel4535 if iphone don't have, they won't say it
It has RGB LED notification
@@user-jt5vm3mi1w I wish it were bottom firing like on the zenfone

Long as it has SD card, it's my next phone, release the damn thing already.
Still waiting
Blame the heat on the 888. That soc is problematic
💯
I think qualcomm will fix the heating issue in upcoming SD 888+ and 898
true. it's sd810 all over again.
Every new flagship that has the 888 is having heat issue but they only complain about it on Sony 😂
So how many years of software update?
2,5
Hey folks, between Xperia 1 iii and Experience 5 iii, which of these is for someone who do not care bout mobile gaming, but looking for a good cheap 4k 120fps video capture on the go, and outdoor mobile phone photoshoot?
nothing is going to beat compact like the xz2 compact!! They need to bring those dimensions back in rotation every so often... ATT is disabling 3G device compatibility starting Feb 2022, and my XZ2C will be RIP :/
Outstanding! Almost perfect phone
I love how sony still use the bezels
GSMArena, could you, possibly, inquire with Sony about the software support? I am seriously considering the purchase of this device, but I am afraid of getting only one major update. This would be unacceptable for this price.
I know that Sony claims to provide two, but it's a manipulation. The device will launch with an outdated OS version. Updating to Android 12 after the device is launched with an outdated Android 11 (by the time this phone reaches the customers) is highly unfair. Therefore, the real two major updates would be if Sony updated it to Android 14 as well.
Could you do this for me? ❤️
They will provide two updates for sure..there was some talk of 3 but that's not confirmed.
@@speedemon1992 yes man, but this device is launched with android 11. They count update to android 12 as a major update. I am afraid that they will stop at 13 and not update it further.
@@ArturKwaszyni hope they change their mind too..my 1ii could really use that
your assumption about sony update is correct, and if you really care about software update, you better pick another phone, they are always give two major update if launch outdated version or one year update if phone is release in the same time as new android version come (Xzs, Xz1, Xz3, and probably xperia 5 too)
I doubt it’ll see 13. 2 years is about as much as you’re gonna get from sony, which is a joke.
Is it worth waiting for the 5 iv over this?
watching with my sony xperia 1 iii
Sony Is Amazing
Think of Sony will be having good phones in future without overpricing otherwise you know NOKIA
Nokia died with Microsoft in my opinion
Nokia died because of Microsoft. Even if Sony Mobile doesn't make profit, they still have a buttload of other subsidiaries for income anyway.
It's not overpriced considering the prices of top end samsung phones
Nice Review, thanks GSM Arena. I mean 5 Mark III had a better main Camera then 1 Mark III or? I see more sharpness..
*than
More polished software.
Good they stick to their concept. Not following others. Price your phones aggressive, am sure you can beat others as you have quality
I think because the others are such big players, they get better deals on components, makes it easier to keep their pricing lower.
The camera looks good.
wow! very nice xperia review
sadly this awesome phone not officially available in many countries
Could you possibly do Xperia 5 III vs Zenfone 8 video? Or advice? They're so similar specs-wise.
yes please!
Where’s Barry Allen?
Haha joking, you have a great style
I don't know if I should wait for the next one or not. Or if I should just get one of the older xperia phones and then use sailfish os
The camera performance seems better than my 1 mark 2
that thing is bussin.. sad can't afford one yet
What about the battery? Does it last longer??
God I'm confused what and where shall I dump my money in ;? In the 1III or the 5III >.
Do not buy 1iii unless you really want the 4K screen.
@@silva_br1 I don't want the 4k screen, but I do want more storage, wireless
everse charging.
@@bipbop3121 Storage you can expand on both using microSD, but you don't have wireless/reverse charging on the 5, only the 1.
If you don't need waterproof, the rog phone is probably cheaper with more ram and an ok camera
Buying it 😼
If I ever buy this phone this is how I will present them to my friends 0:55
Hahahah
What about overheating while making a video? How often is the camera shut down?
Is Sony updating regularly their software? For those who have the II or even the I? Thx!
I have an Xperia 5, which still gets updates and still runs like it did 2 years ago 🙌🙌
High price is not a problem. The real problem is they released to market so fcking slow ... I don't fcking know what they are waiting for ... WTH
H.S feature will solve the throttling issue for those who wanna game for long time without worrying about the battery.
I have the 5 II. H.S is a great feature. It isn't restricted to gaming. You can enable it for any app
They have to find something to complain about 😂
seriously what racing game is that? been asking for it from the previous video.
Race: Rocket arena car extreme
@@rynuusman1925 thanks brother.
This one is closest to the perfect phone of the year to me
I had to ask, does the experia 5mark3 have the video pro app? Went to Sony store but the sales people don't seem to know if it's there. Only 1mark4 or the pro-i has it
The most important question for me: can I uninstall the bloat - apparently the X5ii came bundled with Blizzard and 2Gb+ of CallOfDuty, that was a mandatory app?!?
I wanted to buy this phone but
1. They only sell in Europe
2. It's ridiculously expensive compared to Chinese phones of comparable specs.
In the end, I bought this Nubia Red Magic 6S Pro for $699 free delivery anywhere in the world.

You can buy 2 phones that are more powerful. Are you kidding me? And the camera is not that great compared to S21 Ultra
Does it have better battery endurance than the 1iii ?
Yes, much more
That guy always remember me icarly girl.
I think this time sony don't care to much with xperia 5 III like last year, not even see another youtubers covers that easily people won't think there's not exist, the focal point this year on sony was on xperia 1 III.
they full promote 1iii since its out to buy we will see from september if they will promote 5iii the same..
My next phone
I'm now wondering, did they improve the telephoto picture quality via software or is this how it is ? Like the 5 III is better.
Because that would be great if software improved things this way.
The 5 III is really good overall, very capable while small enough. They did a great job, again.
I think it's software. They reviewed it on pre launch software, this in on launch software.
The 1iii should have identical results.
it's literally just processing tweaking, the longer the lifespan of a camera censor the more and more developers are able to squeeze out of them as time goes on since they are continuously trying to refine the code. This is why my Nokia 6.1 2018 was only JUST surpassed in image quality last year, because Nokia are the kings of number crunch for censors and processing whereas pretty much all the other phone companies leave that to android
It is how it is. It's a variable optical zoom from 70-105. No software can match the quality of the glass ever.
@@BatAskal Yes it can and it has, the glass in iphones are mid tier at best subpar at worst and their processing and censor is what makes the images that come out of it worth taking. Same goes for the pixel series
@@victorkreig6089 Phones using super resolution or advanced computational techniques to enhance the details with fixed lenses still can't match the contrast details and sharpness of images straight from the good old glass.
"Dual Front Facing " stereo speaker is way better than ordinary "Dual Side Facing " stereo speaker !!!

I have an offer to buy this phone in mint condition for 400€, is it a good buy now in January 2023? I love Sony so much and in my country this is the only one I have found..
I wish they feature a QHD for next gen.
Sony’s Thermal Management needs to replace. This is the reason why im still holding back ever since i had my first and maybe last Sony Smartphone. Even so, when the sony will hopefully fix the thermal throttle issue and the battery life i will definitely happy that Sony will be my next daily driver. Nice review tho. 👉👌👉
What's the price in the market ?? Please 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi gsm arena did you get the chance to revisit xperia 1iii telelens as the telelens of xperia 5iii looks superior to xperia 1iii?
Amazing looking camera.. 👌
How long is the support of updates?
gonna get this for the battery life and cheaper than 1m3. no wireless charging kind of sucks, but oh well.
I love that gadget its unique and very smart

-Zeiss lens
-Dual physical sim
Good job Sony.
Is this available in India...? Please reply
Pouring water on phone has never been more casual😁😁😁
Does this phone have 2 internal microphones, with one on top? Had trouble finding information.
They should really change their battery test to have a 4G talk time not 3G talk time.
Great idea. But it does make comparison with previous phone difficult. Maybe they to wait until 3g shutdown at whatever country they are staying.
My next one 😍
After the latest security update october the 1 st all isues has been sortet out there is no more overheating isues as long as you avoid heavy loads . Becourse all 2021 flagships overheat under heavy loads which is normal .
I suppose the 1III soft zoom will be fixed when official release comes.
I'm not sure about that. Even the Xperia 5 ii they reviewed last year had a much sharper telephoto than the Xperia 1 ii. I think it has to do with the camera bump on the 5 ii and 5 iii.
Yep, there's no issues with those retail units from China
