@@Hussienberkznuts_420 Switching from wheat bread to wheat tempura noodles didn't save people, it saved noodle culture in Japan. Asians don't die out when they consume bread...
I live in Argentina, in the city of La Plata where there is a substancial Japanese ethnic community. I talked to an old Japanese there once who told me why he migrated to Argentina. He said that after the war he was homeless because over half the city he lived in had been bombed to rubble, so he lived at the docks. He told me then that he was always happy when he saw the cargo ship with the Argentinean flag arrive because he knew that his next meal was assured since the Argentinean ships would always bring fruits, vegetables and meat. Then he said that once he finally was able to put his life back together, he decided to emigrate to Argentina (a country he knew nothing about except those ships with the food in them) because he wanted to give something back to the country that kept him from starving all those years ago.
And how's he doing in Argentina now? I left Argentina and moved to Switzerland in 2002 (well, with my family, as I was a kid, because my mom is Swiss) because of the huge economic crisis. Btw Argentina probably helped them out because it's very well known that Argentina was friends with the nazis and we also know whose side Japan was on.
Fun fact! Tempura is actually originally portuguese! When the Portuguese came to japan, as the first Europeans to ever step foot there, they exchanged a lot of culture and traditions in between themselves, even founding the city of Nagasaki!
The first guns came to Japan by trading with the Portugese. They were called Tanegashima, named after the island where the trades happened. "Yeah yeah your Christianity stuff sounds good, now give us the guns".
Tempura is actually a corruption of a Portugese word. The Japanese noticed that, at a certain part of the year, the Portugese woukd stop eating meat and go with a veggie or seafood diet instead, breaded. When the Japanese asked why, those Portugeae would simply say that it's that time of year (Lent), the temporada for meat abstinence.
