Very few artists today would grab a guitar and sing live, but he always did and always sounded and played amazing. I started listening to him as a kid in the 70s and I still listen to him today.
I knew Glen when he lived in Phoenix. One day he was getting his car washed at at a place called Danny's car wash. They were having technical problems and things started shutting down, cars weren't moving and people were getting impatient, it started to rain and things just went down hill from there. Glen then pulled a guitar from his car and started playing for the crowd. He played for 20 minutes until the rain had stopped and things started working again. People soon forgot about their cars and just listened in awe. The funny things was when their cars were ready, they didn't care- there had to be close to 80 people shoeing the workers away - they just wanted to listen to Glen. Finally his car was done, he put his guitar back in the car and tore out of there like a like a madman. He was a terrible driver - but a great guy.
I don't know if he felt that way as he got older, but he surely felt it when he was young. He once remarked that he just didn't feel that when he played something that was in fact, difficult, that the general public really cared. Reminds me of the true story of a live concert where Frank Zappa went on break and let "his buddy" play a little while he was gone. The guy played guitar, very, very well and got a little polite applause as Zappa returned; Zappa then said "oh yeah, that was Eric Clapton" and suddenly the place went nuts. They had to be told when to clap. Maybe it has always been that way, that only a handful of people ever appreciate those real talents--of course Glenn had BOTH, the virtuosity and the popular appeal.
I remember all glens songs like i heard them last week and as far as im concerned hes still alive and always will be. Sure hope i can see his daughter in nashville
Glen was a great man all around. Talented yes, he was the consummate artist, and it is the opinion of many that he was one of the best guitarists that ever graced the stage. Eddie Van Halen pleaded with Alice Cooper to, "Please get me a guitar lesson with Glen." He was so much more then just a wonderful stage presence, he was a loving gentle person that radiated that love to those around him. I sure hope heaven is real, because people like him deserve to be around forever...
I like him but that’s ridiculous. He had a serious drinking problem and was a womanizer who cheated on his wives. I’m a fan too, but let’s be realistic.
I dont think he took women as seriously as he could have. This bothered me when i was 9. I think he sort of had johnny carsons problem. I remember a delight arkansas girl saying.all gken cared about was that darn guitar. Not us girls he was too married to his career. Johnny carson admitted the same problem. I also feltlike tanya tucker got him into trouble. Like so many girls ive known.
@@sketchyold I hear that too Bill, he was also what they call "a mean Drunk" when he was drunk. I remember one time being interviewed he talked about a condition when a son of his came to him for money, his beef was them not having a plan of what they needed the money for--and as a side, I get that. But he said something like "that's when the belt comes off--and I don't care how old they are". Sort of an insight into his temper. I guess like most celebs--and people generally there really is a tendency to avoid the faults, especially in that grace period they receive after they pass.
His voice in prime here. What incredible squillo, interpretation and improvisation. He had incredible career. His squillo incredible. His incredible playing of instruments.
Love to hear him tell stories about his growing up. He tells them so good and funny along with it. Really is a sad story they were so poor and all pinched in and all the kids had a talent. Bless this country boy. Made it in the world went after it and he did it. Wish he was still with us he was good.looking perfect hair style and oh how he could play and sing
Dear Connie, wow! Yes .humble real. Kind. Talents included spreading fun and laughs and nice things. And he could playyyy all sorts of instrument z , best of all, a gentle MAN . Or ...... Even a rarebird. And he was...p.s.even a bit.... .. .. .. .. .. sassy.
Holy crap. When he strode in, I caught my breath! He cut quite a figure in those days. Of course, I am a musician, and that's why I'm looking at everything Glen Campbell on RUclips, haha!! Might as well learn from excellence. Graceful, talented man and a real artist. Gone too soon, but gone to be with the Lord.
Every time I hear GLEN C. I GO RIGHT BACK TO THE SONG BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX . I FEEL SAD.. I HAD MY HEART BROKEN AT THAT TIME AND I STILL FEEL THE PAIN WHEN I HEAR THAT!! MUSIC DOES THAT...
Just a wonderful memory of Glen. The lead he plays here suggests to me that the dementia had started, because in his prime he was one of the best there ever was on lead acoustic guitar, bar none. So bittersweet. Here's to one of the best, regardless of genre. Glen was magic.
Glen campbell was my idol at 8 years olld. And i know he will always be my favorite idol. Probably forever. Sorry steve martin and laura branigan. Lauras close though.
Randy Sherry A lot of stars went to Vegas. And the Beatles sang ballads too. And Jerry Lee Lewis certainly ranks below Elvis and Chuck Berry in terms of influence.....Maybe if he hadn't started fucking his cousin he could have had a better career.
In the depression my dad picked a thousand pounds of cotton one day. They called it "Pulling bolls." You remember the song: "when those cotton bolls get rotten--"
One of the most naturally talented musicians ever. What a blessing to the world he was.
He said it was a gift from God and that is quite evident when you hear him sing and/or play.
Very few artists today would grab a guitar and sing live, but he always did and always sounded and played amazing. I started listening to him as a kid in the 70s and I still listen to him today.
And he's always just READY. No figuring out, no counting ahead, no nothing. It's just ready-GO and off he goes!

That is an awesome story. Love it!
Terrific story, thanks for sharing it. 🇨🇦
❤️❤️❤️
You can tell he loved to play and sing . In all of his interviews he never had to be coaxed into playing .
Ill bet if id been there i would have known and able to sing along with 3 quarters of them
The music just pours out of him. And what a song! I nearly started crying. It's all so natural with him.
God broke the mold after He created Glen Campbell. WOW!, what a truly great and awesome gift and talent!
Brian Setser is close
Talent like this isn't appreciated anymore by the masses. This is something from Heaven. Man wants something self-created. I'll miss Glen.

There will never be another Glenn Campbell!
Glen and an acoustic. What a perfect match!
I still play his music in my home today. There’s no one better than Glen Campbell. 😊

"All around nice guy" ??
Not quite. If we're being perfectly, honest. Was inclined towards selfishness , insensitivity.

Damn only haters replying. Sorry to see that. I think he is one of the greats. Glen and Roy Clark together was incredible!!

His voice in prime here. What incredible squillo, interpretation and improvisation. He had incredible career. His squillo incredible. His incredible playing of instruments.
What’s squillo?
On top of everything, quite a vocal range too.
I remember johnny carson complaining about that. Me too at karaoke
Glen Campbell was just the sweetest, most charming Guy who ever lived. My scalp tingles and my eyes get moist whenever I hear him sing.
Love to hear him tell stories about his growing up. He tells them so good and funny along with it. Really is a sad story they were so poor and all pinched in and all the kids had a talent. He dealt with the negativity of poverty by making it happen with his talent. Really a lot better off than the wealthy in a way.

He was an American treasure
An amazing talent and contributor to modern music.
Every time I hear GLEN C. I GO RIGHT BACK TO THE SONG BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX . I FEEL SAD.. I HAD MY HEART BROKEN AT THAT TIME AND I STILL FEEL THE PAIN WHEN I HEAR THAT!! MUSIC DOES THAT...

I miss his music and him so very much !!!
Nobody plays guitar and sings like Glen Campbell--what a masterful performance!
Glen Campbell - born to play. Sweet song.
Just a wonderful memory of Glen. The lead he plays here suggests to me that the dementia had started, because in his prime he was one of the best there ever was on lead acoustic guitar, bar none. So bittersweet. Here's to one of the best, regardless of genre. Glen was magic.
that solo was right in the pocket-Agree he was a great guitarist.
What a wonderful wonderful overall TALENT.
Love Glen Campbell!
EVERYONE MUST DIE BUT GC IS A LEGEND AND ALWAYS WILL BE

Very Nice!
This is fabulous
Angels do exist (he was one )!!!!2019
So incredibly gifted❤
Holy crap this guys so GOOD!
Well that certainly was no three chord campfire playing! And what a honey coated voice!
Pure talent
Glenn knows more chords than Mel Bay! Fantastic musician!
Sam Artist great comment 😂 but you're right that song had a different chord for just about every word.
Still have my first Mel Bay guitar book!
Yeah, nice song!
Now that's real PURE TALENT.... 💯 👍🥂❤️🇨🇦
Man...I sure miss him.
Glen Freak'n Campbell. Enough said.
Now Glen and Regis are gone...
Can’t teach that.......God bless Glen Campbell.
Nice song!
talented and humble
Extraordinary
awesome
What a voice.
Incredible!
His vocal melismatic riff at 7:16 is perfect Mickey Newbury, hitting a series of blue and jazzy notes in sequence with perfect pitch.
Just AMAZING
A difficult song piece , an amazing musician
95 oh my how scary it seems just last week
Glen was a great Singer and Quitar player. On another note those chairs look so uncomfortable.
Keep your opinion to your self,... do not compete ..they are
both great singers!!!
From humble beginnings
I miss America, RIP Glen.
One of the best
No auto tune needed
He was so special
Glen campbell was my idol at 8 years olld. And i know he will always be my favorite idol. Probably forever. Sorry steve martin and laura branigan. Lauras close though.
Thats funny, "Never knew what it felt like to sleep alone" Thats the truth brother.
The supreme being iffins there ever was .. 😍😁
Miss all of them
It was awesome. Glen Campbell was even a better singer than Elvis. My opinion.
C Dream Well that is some bullshit. Glen was a fine singer, but he certainly didn't have the versatility vocally that Elvis did.
Elvis sold out, went to vegas and sang ballads ... The King of Rock n Roll is Jerry Lee Lewis...
Randy Sherry A lot of stars went to Vegas. And the Beatles sang ballads too. And Jerry Lee Lewis certainly ranks below Elvis and Chuck Berry in terms of influence.....Maybe if he hadn't started fucking his cousin he could have had a better career.
lol ... meh lol omg that's fricken funny..
funny and true.. ill give you that one
He had it all!!
In the depression my dad picked a thousand pounds of cotton one day. They called it "Pulling bolls." You remember the song: "when those cotton bolls get rotten--"
The song is Cottonfields. Leadbelly originally did it but the Beach Boys have a great version.
One of a kind ,that voice and his guitar skills ,forever missed ! RIP
Glen campbell laughing too
When God handed out talent he stepped over Glen he saw there was nothing he could add to what he he had all ready blessed him with. 😉
the best
