    Lol at the French explorer fleeing (the French are notorious for surrendering in war) Thanks for the education on "Nafanua" I'd never heard of her prior to this. I wish you would've elaborated more on the story of "Malietoa" because it's a legendary and very significant event in Samoan history! Kudos on the video though, very informative.

    Finally someone explains the history of Samoa every pacific island migrated from the Manu’a islands of Samoa. Samoa and Tonga was once brothers until Tu’i Talakafaiki decided to use Samoa’s kindness for weakness however it’s clear that no tongan woman was high enough to marry the tongan king except for the daughters of Samoan chiefs to keep that royal bloodline since Ahoeitu

      It was all systematic. If you think outside of ethnicity you will realise it was just a bunch of Chiefs and Monarchies solidfying their rule amongst themselves to keep them above the people they ruled whether Tongan, Fijian or Samoan. Tongan Kings married Samoan women so they wouldn't marry into other Tongan clans and create more competitors and dilute their right to rule, Samoan Chiefs did the exact same thing for the exact same reason. The sisters of the Tongan King were married to Fijian Chiefs because naturally she would have had more power over the King as his sister (Tamaha) and thus diluted her right to rule. Samoans married off their women to Fiji and Tonga for this exact same reason as they practiced the same Tamaha/Tamasa system, the older sister of the Chief has more power and say in decision making and if she was to marry another Samoan Chief this made that particular Chief have more say than his wife's brother on his own lands. It was all a play of power. Every person of power in the Pacific in their prime was very wary of his competitors not hundreds of miles away in a different island group but usually just the next village down civil war was a very common theme.

    I was born and raised in Samoa but I never knew about the civil wars we had. In our history class we mainly focused on the epidemic and the Mau movement .We never really discussed how the great powers annexed us. Like I thought they just marched in and start diving the island among themselves (which is basically what ended up happening) but learning the politics of how that happened really is nice. Also Samoa is a christian state and there is even talks of proposing a bill to allow only christian to be able to run for office.

      Indeed. I'm at the 3 minute mark, and i'm impressed with this young man's knowledge of our history. I'm of the lineage of Malietoa so i would have some Tongan in me from those intermarriages. It's nice to know that alot of the interesting history survived through oratory collection. Even though i, too, mourn the loss of the more primeval migratory records. I'm still trying to piece our history together, and yet, here is this young man who knows a lot more than myself about it. Grateful for his contribution. I'm striving to pintpoint the origin of the Polynesians, *before* (as recent DNA and Polynesian bones, skulls have revealed), we got to Russia/Siberia, the Americas, S.E. Asia, and finally Polynesia. I'm currently searching into ancient Anatolia (Turkey) and considering the ancient Hittites and/or those they battled with in that region as having maybe a possible cluster of Proto Polynesians. The Hittites were also megalithic builders and share other cultural similarities. Especially, after discovering how similar the Hittite language was to the Polynesian dialects. And the names of their rulers are pronounced similar to the common Polynesian language. A few names of places in and around the surrounding area of Hatti have Polynesian sounding names, as well. I have nothing conclusive regarding that possible correlation, still digging, but it's an interesting prospect. I look forward to science taking a keener interest in exploring that course. It maybe a promising pathway to finally solve the mystery of the Origin of Polynesians. Which i believe should lead back to Egypt, Babylon, Sumer, central Asia and the Middle East. But Turkey is a good starting point, as that's where the Ark landed (post-diluvian).

    Tonga didn’t rule all of Samoa. Districts like A’ana were never ruled by Tonga. And Malietoa never became king of Samoa until Europeans arrived and supported him. For the longest time, Tuia’ana, Tuiatua and Tuimanu’a were the most prominent titles in Samoa. Malietoa hardly reached that status until Europeans came. Nothing against Malietoa, I am a descendant of his through his son Luatua, but I’m just stating the facts.

    What the heck? Fea le mea na aoga ai lea ulu i aganuu and history of Samoa. What you read online is not the proper history of Samoa boy. If you want to know our history properly, go to Samoa.
    Also, Samoa was never ruled by Tongan. Never in our history when I was growing up and learning about our history. As a matter of fact, the Tongans tried to take over Samoa, but after one of our warrior put the Tongans canoe up on a tall tree, Tongans flee and never came back for fear thinking that there were giants living in Samoa.
    I had no idea where Tonga ruled Samoa. There was so many lies in this.

    • @alcapone8193
      @alcapone8193 2 года назад

      @YLKVT shut up, are you going to agree with this clown talking rubbish when his own people acknowledged that the tongans ruled samoa, maybe not all of samoa but it is recognized by not only samoans but fijians and every other island in the Pacific, the tongans never said they ruled all of Fiji, the fijians capitulated to the British because of fears that the tongans would eventually take over fiji, ie Ma'afu and other warriors and it wasnt only Lau but parts of the western side of Viti Levu and also areas on the way to Suva that they set up a fort, the tongans never conquered Fiji as such but acted as mercenaries for war with different tribes or Matakali.
