this wasn't an example of " the correction police". this was a very sensitive subject within the Black community that stems from ACTUAL issues like colorism and true representation. Admittedly, the backlash towards was too strong and misguided, but she herself admits that she should not have taken that role. We should have given her more grace in that moment, but Black ppl still love her and respect her! It was a teachable moment for everyone involved.

It’s a moot point. The whole movie was a mess. It reduced Simone’s cultural impact to show business cliches, so I think the movie altogether was doomed not to go over well.

She did a great job on Nina. I know, I know, but she REALLY committed to the part. Continued success and thank you CBS SUNDAY MORNING for this content.
She did a terrific job with Nina's project and those hateful ignoramuses who attack another black woman for playing a role and character which is exactly her job as an actress need to sit down and shut up. If they want to play Nina Simone then they should cast themselves in that role, produce the film, write the script and then market it. Only in America is this ridiculousness in existence. In the UK and other parts of the world where there are various artists of color no one decides how black you have to be to play a person of color. I was so offended by the criticism that she received and I felt that she was so gracious in her response. It's like people telling Beyoncé that she's not black enough to release an album with black Artists and representing the Diaspora. Such idiocy must stop. Those lazy and hate-filled people dishing out criticisms should go and maybe get a job and play those roles they so desperately defend. Nonsense. Absolute nonsense.
She's so captivating in beauty, and so gentle and a classy babe!!! Bt when she casted her role as Nina, I wasn't angry or felt she deserved the outbursts... I was just disappointed!!!
Zoe is one of my favorite actors! Love her body of work. I haven’t seen her role as Nina Simone. However, it didn’t offend me when I saw the trailer. I’ll definitely watch it now. 😊
*Zoe Saldaña on why she originally turned down the **_Joe_** character role in **_'Special Ops: Lioness'_** 🎬 :* ruclips.net/video/PHArRCuyaNg/видео.html *_"I have ADD and I'm dyslexic, so learning a lot of dialogue was always very daunting," said Saldana in an interview prior to the start of the actors strike. "I never thought that I would ever get to be a part of (projects) where the dialog and the writing is most important to the whole story. .. I tend to run away from that. I have a hard time focusing, which is why the action genre was always appealing to me."_* She says Sheridan called her and was very complimentary, adding that he was writing a character with her in mind. As exciting as the project seemed, she passed. "I read the pilot, I loved it so much that I freaked out and I walked away from it." A year later she was in Italy filming the limited-series 'From Scratch' and found herself once again thinking about that Sheridan offer and brought it up to her husband. "I guess he was just sick of me always mentioning the show and not doing anything about it. He was like, 'Just call him, just text him.' And the thing about Taylor is that if if he's busy and it's not something that he considers important, he won't call you back for weeks. If it's really something that he wants to really hear, he calls back within seconds, so that's exactly what he did. "He said, 'I'm waiting on you. The script is still here. We haven't done anything with it. Please say yes.' And I did," Saldana recounted. After that initial trepidation to take the role, Saldana says her admiration of Sheridan's work has only grown. He wrote each of the show's eight episodes. "I have a great deal of respect of somebody that really, really believes in what they do," she said. "Now, knowing him a little more, he's very confident about his writing. And that may throw people off (but) I tend to really lean in and revere people that know who they are. If your strength is this, then own it, protect it. And if you don't want to compromise on compromise, it's OK as long as we still keep tuning into your stories. It's working." ..... ruclips.net/video/2iV6swUUo4I/видео.html
Finished! Killer show with an amazing cast. So grad to see Morgan Freeman’s face on the screen again. He plays a great SoS role. Zoe kills it as always. I think Laysla De Oliveira delivered a rockstar performance. If she doesn’t win something for this, she got straight up cheated.
It's sad people treated her that way. Everyone cannot rein-act their heroes, but to the level that people attacked her was does to much. If you don't like something, your money speak volumes to the people behind the screen more then you attacking the person in front of it.
Kevin Costner: "Sheridan doesn’t just give the leads of ‘Lioness’ masculine names like ‘Joe’ and ‘Cruz’; he also gives them stereotypically masculine conflicts like feeling estranged from their children due to a stressful job,"
A "Black" woman being accused of "Black Face?" And the fact that she wanted to also "look" like Nina Simone in a movie portrayal is astounding in the wrong way. She did a great job portraying Nina Simone. Other "actresses" who aren't "Black" but portray real life characters through actually trying to physically look like them onscreen aren't given the same negativity as Zoe. I wonder what her "shamers" are doing to keep history and figures alive through the big screen. Double and ignorant standards. Don't listen to the ignorant and stupid, Zoe Saldana!
That woman is black when convenient. Don't get it twisted. There's a fine line between appreciation and appropriation. Learn the damned difference. And make no mistake Dominican and Puerto Rican have some African roots but Saldana has always played that black when convenient card. You'd know that if you paid attention and were black. Clearly You're not black. What you are is a blackface apologist though. You can fall for the fake tears all you want.
Even if they didn’t basically use grotesque methods to have Saldaña play Simone, the movie’s greatest fault is it was just cliche and bland and it’s director clearly didn’t understand what made Simone such a unique figure in music.
It made me think of Nicole Kidman in “The Hours.” She had prosthetics and it was fine, but only bc she was white and there was no perceived catalyst for people to attack. This poor young woman…not for all the money in the world would I want to be young in Hollywood right now. Everyone looks for ways to be up in arms.
The fact that she said people bullied her when really we asked her to do the right thing and not do blackface by portraying Nina, give the role to someone who wouldn't have to resort to blackface is beyond ignorant and gaslighty...I hope Hollywood does go away and stays away maybe then they can learn how to be a decent human beings and not some self absorbed; air head celeb could do them some good...maybe."😒
But people fail to realize that making movies are a big financial risk. They cost millions of dollars and you have to trek to a theater for them to be profitable, and less people are going to movie theaters now year after year for these kinds of movies. The major studios of Hollywood clearly did not see any monetary value in a theatrical movie about Nina Simone. That’s why an independent studio made it. Plus, people still care about the star system and big actors carrying a movie. And like it or not, Saldaña is one of the few truly big black actors in Hollywood outside of the black community. Hollywood is a business first and foremost. It is not a charity for social justice and the money to invest in movies do not just grow on trees. Even if Saldaña hadn’t played Simone, the movie likely would have still been a disappointment. It was just typical Hollywood music biopic cliches and you really came off it learning absolutely nothing about why Nina Simone was such a unique figure in music.
@@RocStarr913 You are such a sheep..The faster HollyWeird goes away, the better. Life would possibly be a little better off without these undercover ghouls.
Well, they have done a pretty good job at casting. Finally another show that persuades a little bit more of a 'raw' combat feeling, and troubles/sacrifices that come with that. Glad to still see something like this, during this woke era... Season 1 was good.
You should be able to portray the person you are playing. Makeup or no makeup. Brenden Fraser couldn't be the whale convincingly without the prosthetics.
Saldaña definitely gave it her best, but she was clearly miscast and trying to transform her into Simone just looks grotesque. On top of that, the movie was just incredibly cliche and bland and it’s director clearly did not really understand what made Nina Simone so unique in music.

Agree, She is beautiful, humble, but she should now play female character roles and stop with these male character roles. Knowing she is feminine and not masculine. And that masculine is not synonymous with feminine and never will be.
Zoe Saldana...as a Black Woman, I am so sorry that you were attacked for your portrayal of Ms. Nina Simone. YOU BELONG WHEREVER YOUR HEART TAKES YOU...and don't allow anyone else to BULLY you into thinking anything differently! Thank you for taking on the Nina Simone role. I believe that Ms. Simone would have been proud of your acting talents...just as a MULTITUDE of Black women, including myself were proud.❤
I think Simone would not have liked how Saldaña portrayed her, but I’m sure Simone would have clearly saw that Saldaña came into the role with good intentions.
@rockstarr913 we can agree to disagree❣️
I second that! I love Zoe, and I don't think Nina is upset at all.
Off topic... but don't you think India Arie would have portrayed a great Nina Simone??
That's not black
Absolutley beautiful, talented, grounded actress. I haven't watched Lioness yet, but I will.
I liked her in the movie "The Words"
I really liked this show! I'm hoping for a season 2 to find out what happens to the targets family and the aftermath.
She seems so genuine and caring. Have always loved her work and very sorry that she’s been a victim of the Correction Police…
she is a great actress💅🏾
Kevin Costner said: "Sheridan doesn’t just give the leads of ‘Lioness’ masculine names like ‘Joe’ and ‘Cruz’; he also gives them stereotypically masculine conflicts like feeling estranged from their children due to a stressful job,"
This is propaganda of feminism extremist, which is really bad. To polarize people like that. Making some women looking more masculine and in competition against the men. Totally dangerous .
this wasn't an example of " the correction police". this was a very sensitive subject within the Black community that stems from ACTUAL issues like colorism and true representation. Admittedly, the backlash towards was too strong and misguided, but she herself admits that she should not have taken that role. We should have given her more grace in that moment, but Black ppl still love her and respect her! It was a teachable moment for everyone involved.
@DonNrownll
Hi dear Don, this TV series makes propaganda of extremist feminism, showing the worst stereotypes: very masculine women taking on men's roles.
In other words, polarization. It's political, whether it's wokism feminism and other societal movements.
The elites created these movements, the proof being that they polarize us into accepting these tricks.
They want to divide us: black against white and vice versa, women against men and vice versa, progressives against conservatives, atheists against agnostics against believers, pro against anti, right against left and their extremes.
It's bad, very bad, but above all a society where women and men are pushed into competition (natural collaborators), is a society that goes straight into the wall with totally reversed values, reversed roles: Uncertainty, frustration and stress.
All the worst for a society. Social chaos that is ultimately controlled and willed by the elites. It is part of the agenda. Their agenda therefore.
Zoe wasn't the right pick for Nina Simone. I'd feel the same way had Halle Berry been picked. Someone like Viola Davis would have been a better pick. Viola's physical appearance is closer to Nina's.
It’s a moot point. The whole movie was a mess. It reduced Simone’s cultural impact to show business cliches, so I think the movie altogether was doomed not to go over well.
No it was just like this person mentioned that I (and a lot of people) had Viola Davis in mind of playing the role of Nina Simone. I'm not sure if she would've done a better job than Zoe Saldana but I'm just letting you know what a lot of people were thinking at the time. I hope Zoe forgives me for thinking that way and I'm sorry 😔.
Baby you were forgiven for nina. We still love your work
Yes, showing Grace and understanding goes a long way. We will continue to enjoy her work.
Great interview, I love the movies she has been in.
Lioness was great. A surprise hit!
Zoe needs an Oscar for From Scratch .
Zoe Saldaña is a class act. Great Actress! 🥰
Just finished Ep 1, amazing!!!

you didn't hurt her sister.you're a great woman.
She did a great job on Nina. I know, I know, but she REALLY committed to the part. Continued success and thank you CBS SUNDAY MORNING for this content.
I enjoy her acting.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💐
LOVE HER, SECOND SEASON PLEASE!!!!!!

*Zoe Saldaña on why she originally turned down the **_Joe_** character role in **_'Special Ops: Lioness'_** 🎬 :*

*_"I have ADD and I'm dyslexic, so learning a lot of dialogue was always very daunting," said Saldana in an interview prior to the start of the actors strike. "I never thought that I would ever get to be a part of (projects) where the dialog and the writing is most important to the whole story. .. I tend to run away from that. I have a hard time focusing, which is why the action genre was always appealing to me."_*
She says Sheridan called her and was very complimentary, adding that he was writing a character with her in mind. As exciting as the project seemed, she passed.
"I read the pilot, I loved it so much that I freaked out and I walked away from it."
A year later she was in Italy filming the limited-series 'From Scratch' and found herself once again thinking about that Sheridan offer and brought it up to her husband.
It's working."

GOD bless her and her family💖
First movie I ever saw her in; Co- Stared with Nelly and Dean Winters in the Movie; Snipes.
Zoe Saldana is a wonderful actress.
Im 6 episodes deep and this show is excellent.
It was really good
Finished! Killer show with an amazing cast. So grad to see Morgan Freeman’s face on the screen again. He plays a great SoS role. Zoe kills it as always. I think Laysla De Oliveira delivered a rockstar performance. If she doesn’t win something for this, she got straight up cheated.
She was attacked by women, non Latinas who made her feel inadequate. Sad.
It's sad people treated her that way. Everyone cannot rein-act their heroes, but to the level that people attacked her was does to much. If you don't like something, your money speak volumes to the people behind the screen more then you attacking the person in front of it.
Congratulations! Best wishes, health, joy, wellbeing… 🖖🏼
Well what kind of questions to begin the interview 😂
Kevin Costner: "Sheridan doesn’t just give the leads of ‘Lioness’ masculine names like ‘Joe’ and ‘Cruz’; he also gives them stereotypically masculine conflicts like feeling estranged from their children due to a stressful job,"
Love her
I thought Lioness was filmed in MALLORCA. An island of Spain
She is very good
You should be able to portray the person you are playing. Makeup or no makeup. Brenden Fraser couldn't be the whale convincingly without the prosthetics.
Not if it's blackface no you don't."😒
@@TheQuietStorm630But Saldaña is black herself. But it’s clear that even in the African diaspora, there is a lot of colorism within it.
Saldaña definitely gave it her best, but she was clearly miscast and trying to transform her into Simone just looks grotesque. On top of that, the movie was just incredibly cliche and bland and it’s director clearly did not really understand what made Nina Simone so unique in music.
@@RocStarr913 She's only black when convenient. We are not fooled by what she's doing. Be a sheep all you want.
@@TheQuietStorm630when convenient....how ? 🤔
She's beautiful
Classy and beautiful lady.
Damn she looks like Jada Pinkett
might find her way in a star wars film or tv show at some point ?
Nina Simone role should have gone to India Arie or something
