Hi Friends, in todays video, I visit Dan Vicari (brother of Tommy Vicari!) at LAFX Recording Services! By the way I'm wearing the hat to cover very, very bad hair! LAFX is a great recording studio as well as a full fledged gear rental company! I had a blast checking out the fantastic gear and seeing his space. Lots of great engineers and mixers work out of his studio and I hope to get to work there soon! Check out the video and please leave lots of comments! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Geoff Emerick (RIP) was a regular at LAFX, too. We did an archiving project there last year, the only studio in California I could find that owned all the tape formats we needed! Shout out to Spencer, Lex, Anne and Dan.
Warren, Man thank you so very much for the tour of LAFX Studio. I'm a student of Extreme Institute By Nelly in St. Louis MO. Our instructor Matt Curry was telling us in a lecture about this studio just last week, and I never thought i would actually be seeing this with my own eyes! Thanks bro. Keep it up. Me myself, I am in Love with the productions of music. Hope to meet you one day Thanks
Hi +Michael Willis That's an amazing coincidence! Glad to be able to share this wonderful studio with everyone! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi +Matthew Farrimond Nice!! If I ever need an ADAT player I might give you a call! I still have some tapes somewhere! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hey Warren! I have a question about studio monitors. Is it possible to mix using small monitors (4 inches) and headphones and get good or at least decent results doing so? As a 14 year old just getting into proper mixing it would really help.
Hi +Siim Ulavere Great question! Yes, just make sure you do a lot of testing in different environments, obviously with the smaller speaker you won't get the bass response you'll need to check the bottom end. If you could get a sub that would also be helpful! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Grand Piano lid is wrongly held open... the peg is in the wrong place. be careful.. as a piano tech, this can collapse with aggressive playing. love this video... thanks guys!
I'm putting a room together as we speak in the Caribbean, actually a Music Academy and I've been checking out all these videos. very informative. maybe one day you can do an episode in the caribbean.
Hi +Darius James Wow!! That would be amazing!! The Caribbean!! Incredible, would love to!! Best of luck building your Studio! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
It seems to me that the stick that holds the lid up on the Yamaha grand is in the wrong location, it might break after some time under that angle... Other than that, a wonderful studio tour!
Hi +ULT1MOD Haha interesting! All C7's I've seen have that, I wonder if they've ever had an issue? Glad you enjoyed the studio tour! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Warren! Great vid, as usual! Hopefully witht the young guys learning the difference between mixing in pro tools and mixing on real outboard gear will mean young people not being satisfied with mp3!
Hi +stijn van wauwe Haha yes! The Herman Miller's are super comfortable and provide amazing back support! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I had an interesting thought about this studio. It seems to me that to really get your moneys worth you would really need to have some extensive experience and knowledge about what all that hardware does and where to use it. Obviously there is someone there to work with but you'd still want to be familiar. --- The wonderful thing it that these days you can get virtual hands on experience with most of that equipment (even the scratches on the front plates are there on the GUI!). A young producer can actually go into a place like that and not be totally lost. In my early music days I would have been as familiar with this studio equipment as I would be on the bridge of the USS Enterprise! "Um, Mr. Spock, what's this button do?" -"Doctor, please show our guest the ship... elsewhere." -"Damn it Spock, I'm a doctor not a tour guide!" -
Hi +L. Scott Music Haha I love the Star Trek references! When I first went to amazing studios there was so much equipment that I had never used before, but fortunately there were great assistant engineers that came with the studio that knew how everything worked and also gave me ideas in mic placement in the live room etc because they knew the room and the equipment well! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I really want some pros to compare between these equipments and digital in-DAW solution. Let the same person who is a pro work to the fullest of both and AB compare it. I could not find anything like that anywhere. All the description I always get from these high end gears are always "this is amazing", "very good", "add characters", "analog warmth" which pretty much many digital plugins also said. The problem is pros are already rich and never go back to built in Ableton compressor like most of us ever again, so I can't ever get the comparison other than keep wondering what it does to the music and makes it "album quality".
Hi +5argon Thanks for your comment! This is a commercial studio, it's not a private studio, so it's designed to have equipment for any Engineer, Producer or Mixer to use. Please check out this video, it shows Hardware and Plug Ins:- ruclips.net/video/1X4HIaIOrn4/видео.html Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

Produce Like A Pro Speaking of guitars I just got a epiphone slash AFD special 2 from sweet water. The quality was better then i expected from a beginner guitar, and has a tuner near the bridge to help you tune. I uploaded a song playing the guitar and the acoustic guitar which is the "bass" i was recording about a week ago. It's a demo, uploaded just to show my guitar teacher. soundcloud.com/chaotic-sonics/at-the-end-of-the-roadwip-by-chaotic-sonics
