Hi Rob, good to see a new video. The 5 speeds can be a bit sticky until warmed up by all accounts, mine certainly is. I suppose age is getting the better of them and a rebuild could be on the cards. I did the same job on the shifter myself a couple of years ago and didn’t really make much difference. The boot made a hell of a difference with heat coming into the car however - mine was totally shredded - so worth doing for that at least. Thanks for the video.
Good to have done it for peace of mind at least, that broken lower boot was letting all sorts of crud into the turret. But yeah I was hoping for a bit more improvement. Still, its pretty good once warm as you say 😊
Great video Rob, I’ve only recently discovered your channel. I’ve same car Eunos NA 1993 in the same colour as yours (Silver). Just like you I enjoy doing a lot of these maintenance jobs myself. Top channel 👍
My transmission seemed a bit rough, the boots had been changed by the previous owner, but the turret oil had not been properly replaced. I pumped out the old muck and changed oil (a couple of times, using fresh oil to get more muck out), drove the car a bit, repeated the process, and once more. The transmission feels almost new after this, now the oil stays fresh
Hey man, would you mind giving an update to a video you made 4 years ago? Haha I was looking for a possible solution to the lifter tick and you fixed it with running the new oil for a short while then replacing the filter and putting 0w40 in it. How did that treat you in the long run? I hear the tick always comes back so did it come back for you?
Hey Nick, sure thing. I've been running that 0W40 since then and I must say its been great. The lifters still tick occasionally, I think its almost impossible to get rid of it completely in these engines, but most of the time the engine is smooth and quiet. I certainly haven't noticed any negative side effects to using 0W40 so as far as I'm concerned its a win 😊👍
Mechanical ASMR. Purest accent on the market

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the videos 😊 I wasn't sure about silver when I first got my car, but wouldn't have any other colour now 😁

Is there any specific kind of oil to use? I’m doing this on my 91 Miata, and trying to make sure I don’t mess it up
75W-90 gear oil
Good vid!

your gearbox is a 5 speed? cause mine is a 6sp and I hear you don't need to top up oil through the turret?
Yes I believe in the 6 speed you don't have the separate turret like in the original 5 speed, which mine is
