Thank you for the honesty, man. I feel bad for the naive guys who actually believe influencers and spend a good chunk of money only to be let down when this "panty-dropper" fragrance doesn't actually get them the girl of their dreams. I love my fragrance collection but, honestly, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of actual compliments that I've received on my scent. Of course this kind of honesty isn't what generates clicks and that sweet ad revenue.

I know right, as if you wouldn’t go and trial it before you buy. I used to wear Aqua Di Gio, but got sick of it. After watching a bunch of these reviewers I’m interested in trying the Profumo, but will definitely be trying before I buy
Finally the TRUTH!! I've always suspected that most of the time fragrance RUclipsrs are reading off a Fragrantica list of notes set right beside the camera. With regards to compliments I don't care about them but they only happen on average once every three months to me who wears a different cologne every day. Not nearly frequently enough for me to form any opinion on which cologne gives the most compliments so bravo for calling out the BS. You have a fan for life. 😉

I wasted a lots of money believing fragrance reviews. Every fragrance smells wonderful and you need to get. Lies. Thanks for been honest.
In the end, it’s all about what you like and what smells good to you. Most colognes will smell good to other people when you’re around them.

you are bang on with your comments on compliments! a random one I had though, was a girl following me in a supermarket to ask what fragrance I was wearing and it happened to be Bentley for Men Intense which is a fragrance I now love, but was surprised to get such a compliment from a random girl.
I mostly wear fragrances for my own enjoyment!

This is sooo true about compliments. I always think how many people do you really meet a day that randomly come to you and make a random compliment about your fragrance. That isnt likely. However they get hundreds of compliments. Never believed that🤣
You’ll only get compliments if you’ve got everything else going on, charisma, well dressed, in shape. I get compliments more for the shape of my shoulders than what fragrance I’m wearing. The compliments I get about my fragrance are more from older women 😂🤣😂

Do you all spray enough? I’m not saying over spray, but I notice some guys don’t spray enough.
I test fragrances projection by asking people around me. I test longevity by working out with frag while doing intensive cardio (see how long it lasts thru the sweat). I find that mr smelly is telling us facts
other fav of mine:
„I love this scent and really put a dent into this“, „I’ve been wearing this a lot this season“, and so on, but holding a full bottle into the camera. 😂

FYI: When going to a funeral always double check the dress code as the difference between sombre and sombrero is only a couple of letters but very different in tone. I'm 63 years old and wear what I want, when I want...who gives a sh-t?
Only 4 fragrances of my collection of about 140 have ever gotten me compliments: 1 Million EDT, Kouros, Dunhill Desire, and Ombre Leather EDP. I have so many more expensive fragrances that never got me a single compliment. You're absolutely bang on about how rare fragrance compliments actually are in reality.

Only 3 fragrances have gotten me unsolicited compliments, and I wear a different one everyday.
1. Brut (yes old school green bottled Brut)
2. Jazz Club
3. Valentino Yellow Dreams

I only had compliments on Jazz Club from my tiny array of scents, usually in elevators. They would inquire about my perfume since they enjoy the distinctive smell.
I wore Detoir noir for the first time the other day and got a compliment from a cute young lady. I threw the bottle in the trash when I got home ..Im too old and married to deal with that..
Acqua di Gio profondo, swy absolutely, spice bomb extreme, and Xerjoff nio are the only fragrances that have ever gotten me compliments. I remember every single time I get compliments bc I NEVER get them😂.
Hi Dan, I was wearing vintage kouros and a lady I see most days was talking me and she kept stepping back, I asked her don't you like my perfume and she said not really. 2 weeks later seen her again and I had vintage kouros on and she was standing 30ft away in a field, she said I can smell your perfume from here.I said do you like it and she replied yes it's nice....work that out
Kouros is trash why do y'all mislead people is it different yes the smell of feces is different too and there is nothing enjoyable in any sense about kouros

I said Morning and she said Hi and smiled, she came back and said to me I like your perfume you're wearing. I said I'm surprised its 40 years old, she replied I like old things and I like older men too! I said Do You Now, she said I live around the corner would like to come in for a cup of coffee with me? I said that would be nice but I ain't got time at the moment I have to pick the wife up and she replied pity.

Out of my approximate 65 bottle collection I’ve had only 2 ever get a compliment from a stranger. Oddly they were both Creed. Viking and Bois du Portugal. Compliments from friends and acquaintances don’t count imo.

Spot on truth ! One question, I think some perfumes really have to be worn on their specific season for example I have Eros Flame.
Why when I wear Eros Flame in summer I stop smelling it after 1hr and when I ask someone close if they smell it, they say No as well?
Isn't fragrance suppose to project more in summer or it really comes down which type of fragrance ?

LOL love this. I always say you gotta take things with a grain of salt and you HAVE TO sample fragrances on your skin. Performance/projection you really need a few wears (I'll do sample, then travel spray if I really enjoy the first wear if it's really expensive... if not I may just buy the bottle)

Excellent! Regarding compliments, some of these long time reviewers probably have a thousand bottles, but they say that they wear the one they are reviewing all the time. Not possible. I only have about 50 fragrances, with new samples coming in from time to time, and there are several that I have not yet gotten around to wearing more than once. And the notes? I have never been able to smell mint in Eros, but several reviewers have said that it is a mint bomb!

I think you have done this too but, a lot of reviewers have a bias towards certain brands and give them good reviews to get deals with certain fragrance brands or free bottles with them. Roja Parfums being a good example.
Such a refreshing honest video the truth I've been into the game for year's and I just wear what I like yes if I'm 9n a first date I might leave my animalcs alone and wear something mass appealing but that's about it I wear what I like and occasionally my partner might say that's a good 9ne and tbh she likes lapidus pour homme more than something you might think a woman should like more thanks Dan

Totally agree I have made these comments on other RUclips perfume connoisseur? About the rubbish they spiel out about performing 8+ hours just getting freebies -payment or whatever not like Jazz the original or some of the real powerhouses from the 80s bring them back

Its true i brought so many fragrances this past year, none complement monsters. The one i do get lots of compliments and i have been using it for years since it was release is armaf club denuit intense man. I have been trying to find something that gets attention like it nothing yet.

I have noticed that where a person lives and the fragrance they wear determines compliments. For example, in the south of the U.S. people are more at ease to come up to a stranger and compliment him or her. However, you won't get many compliments if you live in NYC but can get quite a few in L.A. BR540 and Musk Therapy, for example, got me a few compliments in a low compliment city. In the end, wear it for yourself rather than public recognition. If the latter then you have to work on yourself.

This is an interesting twist I hadn't thought of, but it does kind of make sense. I actually receive comments quite frequently... at work, stopping by the store, at the doctor's office, virtually anywhere I go, but I do live in the south of the US, and you're right about people generally being more at ease to compliment a stranger I think. I figured most fragrance enthusiasts got complimented often... I never factored in location.

Also where do you go using the fragrance… if you go always to the same places and see the same people, and these never compliment, then probably you will never get compliments
Here in Brazil no one will ever stop you at the market and compliment a fragrance.. but I can imagine that happening in US
I guess also how you look also is a factor.. some people get stopped to answer random question and some people are never bothered for some reason… so it’s all subjective
Great video. I follow ALL of these popular RUclipsrs, but the hyperbole and exaggerations became obvious early, so I diminish all of the obvious overstatement. I have a robust collection and have worn fragrance daily for at least 3 years. I am an average looking guy. Have received about 5 or 6 compliments in those 3 years. I do know what they mean by "well blended." Only that the notes seem to work well together. Some fragrances seem a garbled mess. Love what you do! Thank you!

They talk about ambroxan, tonka bean and amber as if they are household scents. I still dont know what tf "Sexy" smells like and never smelled a tonka bean in my life. The fragrance community is a unique bunch.

I wear what "speaks to me", not how many compliments i get. Please don't misunderstand, i appreciate compliments and i certainly don't want to wear a fragrance that makes someone nauseous but it's gotta make me feel confident, happy, comfortable etc.
Even funnier is Fragrantica has been known for inaccurately listing the accords and notes.

lol I’ve always found the attachment to seasons a bit odd. Considering that we spend most of our time in a climate controlled environment (unless its a day to spend your time exclusively outdoors when its sunny). Thus it makes no difference what the season is outside when it does f’all to the perfume’s performance.
It still wouldn’t work even if one’s to argue about subzero winter times needing punchier warmer scents.. As the above paragraph renders seasons negligible indoors, we’d only encounter the cold outside; when our jackets, gloves and scarf is still on.. no matter how strong your perfume projects, it won’t project past your winter outerwear.. and even if you spray your fragrance on your jacket, the wind and falling snow would just dry the fragrance up rather quickly.. Lol
ps/ i do keep notes of how fragrances performs on me and I’m quite pedantic with the details too! lol so I’ll mark the time I put them on, check every hour/half hour on what I can and can’t smell and bug ppl around me to establish the projection. Tho I don’t look out for its sillage, those perfumes with insane sillage will always be obvious.

This is brilliant and I'm glad someone finally said it.
Old ladies are the only strangers that will ever comment on someone's scent, and even that's rare.
And the constant sniffing of the air to "pick out the subtle notes" is the silliest $h!t over seen.
I'm 43 and here are the only 2 frags I've EVER been complimentet on: L'eau D'Issey (A LOT), and Ralph Lauren Polo Black (a few times). Everyday scent though: Drakkar Noir. So there...
The only thing I disagree with you on is seasons. In my opinion fragrances are made for a specific season or they are just versatile
I once got a compliment after I smeared on Hugo Boss Man stick and spray. It's a bit underrated that one.

For me the only fragrance I’ve been complimented on was anything that smelled like creed Aventus all other colognes not much . People pretty much keep to themselves even if they like how you smell 👃
