A solo melody, with reverence. Wonderful. I've heard it called different names because some of us will never know a farewell to music. It simply absorbs us into it.
That is beautiful, go raibh míle maith agat. He was an impoverished blind itinerant entertainer/composer at a time when Ireland had been laid waste by puritanical, land-hungry adventurers; the whole social system that supported such artists had been destroyed just before his birth. Carolan did not consider himself a mere traditional Irish composer, he saw himself in the ranks of the greats, Handel, Vivaldi, JS Bach......maybe in different circumstances it could have been so.
After 5 years, this is still one of the best Harp music available on RUclips.

Absolutely beautiful rendition of this tune. I can just picture O'Carolan composing this on his death bed. Hope to play my harp as wonderful as you do. I am learning this tune right now from a Lead Sheet, and am having a tad bit of difficulty with the counter-melody, but should be able to nail it soon....Please post more videos, as your playing is above and beyond....Blessings, Slan, Gloria

carolan produced some marvellous pieces...this is one of the best...a tricky but wonderful melody...used by micheal o suilleabhain in the film the treaty brendan gleeson 1991....well done ciara.
My family, until the Great Betrayal by my wayward kin and the subsequent confiscations when the Treaty of Limerick was abandoned were patrons of traditional filid and Harpists, had been since at least the time when their Tuath moved into Munster and subjugated the Desi, who'd collaborated with Danes. I congratulate Ciara: tá se go an han mhaith! And, we continue to support wherever we are.
