    That is going to be a really nice camp ground when it greens up a bit and the "new" is rubbed off.
    Those packed down snow trails brought back a distant memory. Decades ago, right after high school I found myself in a small community in far northern Manitoba. They used the Churchill River like a highway and during break up the ice would flood while upstream still was intact and acted like a dam. So you'd look out over the river and see a snow machine blasting along on a packed snow road that was three/four feet above running water that was going over ice about two/three feet below that. Quite the sight!.

      We think so too! The sites are quite large and the layout works well with bigger rigs able to be more central…just need to ‘green up’ as you said. Staff were very friendly and helpful as well! Appreciate the sharing of your memories!

    Nice campground, very well planned. Finch knows how to find the coziest spots.

      Agreed and once it ‘greens up’ (as someone else noted) it should be quite nice! And he does; he snuggled under the blankets in the middle of the night as well.

    Wow, what a difference a week makes in snow removal! Also the lake was ice free! Great video as always. Thanks for shout out, see you on the road! Safe travels.

    It was amazingly quiet over the May long weekend!!!! It was completely full but everyone was really quiet after 10pm which was great

      Nice! With all sites powered likely no need for generators, so that may help as well!

    Nicely timed video as we just booked a spot for mid-July! Hopefully no more snow by then - haha.

    We checked it out in January when we did a shakedown trip in our new (to us) class B. Loved the way they did the insulation and heat tracing on the water lines to keep water running right to the spigot. Then it's up to you to either fill containers or run a heat traced line to your rig. The washrooms are warm, clean, and have nice natural lighting.
    If $50+ is too much for you, RV's can dry camp in the Lightning Lake parking lot for $13. Those are winter rates of course.

    • @hikenrv

      They have done a great job overall. We have camped at both the Lake ( only allowed in winter season) and the group site and enjoyed…the only ones there! Wishing you safe travels!

    great park and lots of amenities. Once the trees grow in it will will blend right in. We just finished the Cascade Loop In Washington and highly recommend it!

      Nice! Sea, to mountains to farmland! And yes, with a bit of time to fill in it will be very pleasant option for Manning (especially in winter 🥶)

    Just got back from SKYVIEW today! It was super nice and still a bit of snow on the ground in some places! We got some snow and hail at night but cleared up in the day - we had one of those mountain side sites that are open for summer and it was a really nice view - finch is super cute! What a lucky cat to visit all these fantastic camping spots- we are up to chilliwack rv in June to kayak and fish on kawaka lake - we didn’t dare bring the kayaks to lightning this weekend cuz it might have been too cold but really wouldn’t have been a problem
    Great vids keep it up! Thank you

      🙏 In a few years it will look much nicer, with a bit more forest/trees/undergrowth between the sites (which are quite large). The area was largely dead forest (impact of pine beetle) prior to development. Close enough to Lightning Lakes to allow access to some nice hikes too.

    I see you are still using the non-refillable propane tanks with your campstove. I highly recommend you get a 5 lb refillable tank. Cheaper and better for the environment.

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  2 года назад

      We do recycle (special drop off) these locally, but an excellent point! Probably the best option would be to connect right up to our van.

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  2 года назад +1

      Done! Appreciated the idea! UPDATE: actually not quite as easy as expected. We can do so for use at home, so that helps but probably shouldn’t carry a 5lb propane tank around inside our van (or any RV), and unfortunately a connection from the van to the stove doesn’t work either (wrong pressure for the stove). Will have to look for some other solutions!

    Thank you for the tour. It is on our list. Seems like there isn’t much privacy. Still snow in what April?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  2 года назад

      Actually the sites are quite large, but definitely need a bit of time to ‘green up’ (which may help with privacy) as one viewer noted. Several of the ones along the sides and especially some of the ‘summer sites’ didn’t seem too bad. The ones in the centre (we think largely for bigger rigs) were largely out in the open (more like commercial sites). This was mid May, and snow up to then, though mid April forward it didn’t seem too bad (someone shared a few photos with us). A cool spring this year! We still prefer some of the more rustic camping at Manning, but can see camping here frequently in shoulder or winter seasons.

    Thanks for the video, very well done. I heard you say you paid the park ranger, does that mean you did not reserve your spot ? We are looking to book a few days in Dec and was wondering if you can reserve specific sites or is it first come, first serve ?

    • @hikenrv
      @hikenrv  Год назад

      We didn’t reserve a spot, but it was off season. Actually we were just there a week ago and didn’t have a reservation then either, only a few sites were taken but not sure how busy December will be - but reservations are available up to 2 months in advance. Right now if you are making a reservation you can’t choose a specific site, but you can choose either a back in site (like we had and these usually have some trees around) or a pull through site (usually in the center and more open). One point to note; as far as we are aware the reservation system is supposed to transition over to the BC Parks system sometime this fall. Right now it is still with Manning Parks Resort. The reservation rules seem very similar.

    • @johnmacdonald7645
      @johnmacdonald7645 Год назад +1

      @@hikenrv thanks very much for your reply. As far as I can tell it looks like the reservations are still done through Manning Park and it looks like you just reserve the type of spot like you said and then get what you get when you get there. According to the Manning reservation rules we can reserve our spot on Oct 27th, we will see how that goes.

      There are other choices too, but with less services. Prices here are approximately the same as many private campgrounds, but the park is much nicer we think.
