What are your impressions of Kuala Lumpur?
Regarding coffee, you haven't been to Malaysia or Singapore if you haven't been into a local Kopitiam where you get real local styled coffee and Kaya toast. They are the staple for breakfast in both countries. Skip the expensive modern coffee place for a taste of the authentic. These eateries are not unlike the almost extinct North American diners. Greetings from the Wet Coast of Canada, BC.

Malaysia is Asia New York and also Shibuya in Tokyo Japan where you can find it at Bukit Bintang
As a Muslim traveler that need Halal food, they are expensive in countries like Thailand and Philippines so I guess food prices will be cheaper if they are what the majority population eats. However Malaysia gives the best choice as far options and taste as you have pointed out. Travellers looking for best Halal food options will be spoilt for choice in Malaysia and will find the food prices reasonable. Premium coffee is more expensive here, you are right, maybe because most Malaysians drink teh tarik and coffee at local mamak shops where it is less than RM3.

Good job Alex and Palm for the overall review of KL, but you forgot to mention that English is well-spoken in Malaysia. There are only three countries in SEA namely Singapore, The Philippines, and Malaysia where the Majorities of its population can speak good English. So if you are from English speaking country there will be less language barrier for you as tourists

That area of Kuala Lumpur looks amazing Alex so modern and nice and a free pool area to cool off nice I don't get out enough Alex I wish I could travel like how you travel. Clean streets nice I love when people show that they care about their places by keeping them clean. Take care Alex I hope you can do another mall tour video there sometime even if the malls there might look similar to India Thailand and the Philippines maybe Malaysian malls they have different stores.👍👍🆒🆒😎😎

On the foods prices it depends on locations, eg. at Hatyai, Southern Thailand, if u eat at those up scale, tourists or city area is much more expensive than most towns in Malaysia.
Our local coffee costs around RM2 to RM3, you can find it in all local eatery. You probably don't see many people have it 'to go' as they may prefer to drink in the shop. Our hawker food is only a bit more expensive than Thailand (20 to 30%) if you compared the same portion. RM2 noodle in Thailand is only 2 mouthfuls. 😂

We were in KL 2 weeks ago and loved it. We even thought about retirement there, until we found out they recently changed their retirement visa. Now you have to be wealthy to retire in KL. We’re sad 😢

Alex it's great getting both your and Palm's perspective of KL. I've been to SEA, India, China and the Philippines a few times but still haven't been to Malaysia. Your reporting on these places with Palm are the best I've seen so far. Less than $2.50 for coffee would be great for me. I have heard that beer and wine is expensive there.

If you like the greenery, you should go to KL Forest Eco Park, just next to KL Tower. One and only forest in the middle of the city. It's a real forest.

Greetings Alex and Palm. Been following your journeys. I took my Filipino partner to KL for her birthday last November. Even though she was 54 at the time, and we had been together for almost 10 years, immigration still asked her all “those” questions. (How long you been together, who is paying for trip, do you have pictures of you two together) fortunately she keeps everything in her phone. So was not offloaded. I have the same impression of KL as you. I did find it a bit expensive.. hope you get to go to Batu Caves. Wanna see if you will climb all those steps. I did not and watch out for all the monkeys just running around. You too be safe and have fun. Waiting your return tomthe Philippines.

its a visa free regulation for ASEAN countries which means that no evaluation made to such visitors prior to visit. these questions are standard questions and documents required if you are to apply visa to countries that require you to apply before visit. you need to show that you are financially capable to stay, you need to provide evidence such as flight tickets, accommodation, they even need to see your bank statement. Its worst for us if we want to travel to USA. They even want to interview us before giving out any visas lol. I always make sure I print everything out keep in a folder and be prepared if they ask. I dont think its personal and isolated case.
Malaysia are worth visiting because it have cheap world class accommodation and also world class public transportation. Most Malaysian can speak English and this make tourists easy to communicate with local people
Awesome. Malaysia is islamic majority but multicultural for sure. There are absolutely no short of types of food in KL you can find anything that you wish to have but I suggest you to visit 100 year old MTR 1924 restaurant, its a bangalore based restaurant top rated in bangalore for its delicious authentic local food. KL has good one too.
Kuala-Lumpur is 216.88 mi (349.04 km) north of the equator, so it is located in the northern hemisphere. 21st March is Spring Equnox, it marks the beginning of hot season in Malaysia. Lasts till October and the climate will be bit “cooler” 🌨❄️☃️😃🤣😆

Generally if you walk around tourist attractions, the food price quite expensive around there like jalan alor etc.. but still you can get good & cheap food around KL if you walk around a bit outskirt of KL.. example chow kit area, jalan pasar area or around masjid jamek.. there have place call 'selangor mansion' next the river near masjid jamek.. try walk around this place.. new environment for you to see..
There have small coffee stall around KL there not so expensive compare than big coffee shop you have been in KL..

i guess food is cheaper in thailand because they have huge agriculture industry. Malaysia is highly dependent on imports of food and thailand is one of our food supplier.

What kind of coffee you drink? 3 in 1 sachets? Fresh beans ? Our local coffee has only black coffee or white coffee. They are not freshly grinded. So if you want roastery coffee like Starbucks, coffee bean, San Francisco for sure it is expensive.
I usually just drink filtered coffee or a cappuccino. But I've learned the local ways now 😆
I agreed with the wired things... In Thailand, the electric cable wired was so messy and sometimes look dangerous. Same as in Vietnam. No, hard feeling, just my thought though... 😉🙂

Look for places where they make coffee without using the coffee machine. They generally cost at around RM1 to RM2.50. They often taste even better than Starbucks. Coffee sold at RM10 and above are either franchise joints or hipster/ instagram friendly cafes. In Msia only Msians under 25 or Msians who wants to enjoy the air conditioning go to such places

KL food may not be cheap, but there is a range of options available depending on your budget. You might want to consider trying the steamboat buffet, which is available in shopping centers or hotels, with prices ranging from RM50 to RM300 per person.

Malaysia still has the second tallest tower. The food is a bit pricy in KL compared to other areas. Do go to other states to eat lower-priced food. I have been to KL

You mentioned Malaysian is actually Malay(Melayu), the biggest race in Malaysia, there are many Malay also in south Thailand. Recommend you guys visit Kampung Baru, Malay hotspot in KL, some Malay foods influenced by Thai too
There're cheap meals and coffee in KL, you just need to do your homework in more detail. Try walking into those small kopitiam (old school restaurants) and you'll be surprised by how reasonable the drinks and food can be. I noticed in Thailand you can get cheap foods, but the portion is really small and you need to get a couple portions to fill you up, whereas the portion served in Malaysia is much bigger and has more volume. That's just my 2 cents. Like I always tell fellow tourists, in Malaysia, there's something for everyone, from budget travelling to high rollers style of holiday!😂✌️

It is to do with the colonization history, this land had been colonized for almost 400 years by 4 countries, and has trade with China, India, Arab, Thailand, Indonesia for almost 600 years
Hence you can find different type of flavors and cultures, in short Malaysia is a summary of Asia, for those who like to understand Asia, 1st stop shd be Malaysia
