You don’t need an MPC or any other gear to make beats but the feeling of making music with an hardware equipment is by far more interesting/inspiring than a mouse a keyboard and a screen :)
For the creator? I can see how some people would prefer hardware. I definitely had more fun when I was using Maschine. For the listener? I would disagree. I don't think they could perceive a difference. Many people find mouse/keyboard just as interesting/inspiring to use (even though you and I may not be one of them).
IT CAN BE REPLICATED NEVER DUPLICATED. THE MPC WILL ALWAYS HAVE A DIFFERENT FEEL ALL TOGETHER. MPCS ARENT MUCH MORE THAN A GOOD DAW ANYWAYS. I LET SOMEONE CONVINCE ME THAT I WAS TOO LIMITED USING AN MPC BUT REALISED THAT ITS THAT VERY LIMITATION THAT MADE THE CREATIVE PROCESS BETTER. LISTENING NOW TO MY FL STUDIO BEATS AND AND MY OLD MPC BEATS ITS OBVIOUS TO ME AND ARTISTS IVE WORKED WITH THAT THE ONES MADE ON THE MPC JUST HAVE A DIFFERENT UNIQUE SOUND AND SLAP TO THEM. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THAT GOING BACK TO CHOPPING ON MY MPC 2500 WAS THE BEST MOVE I EVER MADE. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR THAT ALCHMIST DARINGER GRIMEY ASTHETIC JUST GO TO THE SOURCE INSTEAD OF TRYING TO MAKE YORE BEATS SOUND THAT WAY. NAVIE WILL ALWAYS BE THE FL GOAT THO 100.
You definetly don't need an MPC to make old school beats but the fact that an MPC doesn't have all the features that a DAW has is what makes it unique. Especially older MPC like the 60, 3000 and 2000: if you don't have the fx board installed, you can only change the pitch and add a low pass filter, and that's it! That really forces you into making a beat sound good with a limited amount of "tools", without getting distracted about what type of reverb, delay, compression plugin to use, that's what I love about the MPC! (hope this makes sense, English is not my first language 🤣)
Here's a fun fact: 10 or more years ago, I used to put the word "MPC" in the name of some of the beats I made in FL Studio and rappers would assume that they were made using my MPC1000 or 2000xl. Of course, if they asked I told them that they were 100% made in FL and show them...sometimes they chose a different beat to buy and sometimes they stuck with their choice lol.
I understand what you're trying to pass with this video and you're right, we do not need something like an mpc to make - in this case - boom bap. But having only that little machine - and not having a ton of plugins that make all the work for you -, you really let your creativity roll. Everything needs to be - in some way or another - meticulously chosen. It's a craft you can replicate on a computer, but, you cannot feel the same kind of "magic" from it.
Hey Navie, I really appreciate your videos man, you got me so hooked on sampling and boom bap producing. I was so tired of creating trap beats and had lost my passion for producing for a while, but it's back and thriving now. Your guidance is highly valued dude
This was much needed. Ppl promote these MPC’s like it’s the only way you can get a hip hop sound. I’m in awe how someone would deal with an calculator sized screen to trim and modify with nothing but a wheel and a few buttons like y? You have a whole computer? My MPD32 with Logic pro’s drum machine designer makes things so easy.
Always admire a beat maker who makes tutorials, rather than someone who makes tutorials about beat making. I love your work, if you have beats you have uploaded somewhere a shameless plug will be good for the community.
Hi Navie D! 👋 I just wanted to let you know that I started watching your videos recently and have become a big fan. You're a great teacher and everything you teach is easy to understand, even for someone like me who doesn't speak any English! 🌎🤔 Although I have a lot of experience in beatmaking, I always find something new and interesting in your content to add to my arsenal. 🔥🎧 Sending you a warm hug from Peru! 🇵🇪
What is „need“? The different and special sound, the algorithm is what makes MPC unique. That’s why people use it. You can’t recreate that. But of course you don’t „need“ this to program beats. You may want this !
Your video layout was awesome. I really appreciate your flow and how visually descriptive everything you were talking about was. Definitely think this format is the way for me to best understand whats going on.
You absolutely don’t need an MPC that’s correct. Fundamentally what’s important is the quality of the music you make. Nowadays you can make beats with a budget laptop and a free DAW. Hell you don’t even need that. Ultimately it’s about what you want out of your music. I use an MPC as it is a device purpose built for music production. It fees great just to switch it on and use it. straight away. But i also acknowledge that I could make beats of the same quality on my laptop using fl studio. I just prefer my MPC. Anyway what’s important is that you enjoy the music making process, so I would advise you use the equipment or software that you enjoy the most. Just my two cents.
i love boom bap because I am a bboy first before messing with fl studio. I am a sucker for that classic drum break. yo, u Came at a great time with this video. You check out that new Nas album!? 🔥
Dope video 🔥 I think MPC has a better quantizing algorithm than say FL which I use so I do a lot of nudging. Other than that distortion and vinyl/tape emulation fx can help wrap things up. Camel Crusher is goat 🔥🔥
Thank you for your video! Really helpful. There were only TWO Akai MPC60s in my country for more than a year. And one of them was mine. I don't remember the MPC sounding like that. For me your intro soundtrack sounds closer to E-mu SP1200 than MPC60 (at least).
Ngl....making beats with my maschine is the dopest and easiest way I've ever used....now if I can get it to work with ableton live 11 I'll have the perfect workspace.
@@NavieD you're a pro who's been in it for a while. I've seen people do it before and make great beats. It's ok for people who know the software. But as a newbie and a organ/keyboard player it's more of my element to use a midi board and maschine.
I would recommend using an empty FPC and save it as a Template. Than drag and drop the sounds from the browser in the FPC and route the sounds through FX out
The technique you used on the drum bus is bus processing not parallel processing you would need to send the drums to two tracks one with effects and one dry and then set the faders on these tracks how u want to get a mix between them to get the classic parallel technique but great video anyway 👍

I've been using FL studio since it was called "fruity loops" straight out. The one thing I can say is that you can't imitate MPCs "sound". The thickness and grittiness Of everything you run thru the MPC environment comes you bigger. I got a live some months back and use FL/mpc or studio one/MPC together. Learn an instrument.
@@markbruggeman274 yes but The reason all those saturation plugins is to emulate the what the MPC does automatically. It doesn't sound all clean and digital. All I need is a little eq compression to tame the drums. Then I add everything else in the daw. MPC has plugins too tho. It's basically a computer that does one thing extremely well.
@@rocky93215 But you're not, your daw already has all the plugins you need. Every paid plugin used in this video has a free alternative already in your daw and as for drumkits, all the sounds you would ever need are out there free whether it be reddit or audioz. You're a nimrod, stop speaking
Working in a computer is faster and this equipment has much less limitations, it has more possibilities. However, MPC is much more fun. Creating with mouse and keyboard is counter-productive for me. It's like comparing Pro Evolution Soccer to grabbing the ball under your arm and jumping onto the pitch. You can probably become a stadium star faster with a pad, but the joy of the game is
