    I attended the Matt Berkey S4Y Academy and this is my review/opinion on it. Is this poker training worth $4,000??

    When COVID started, there was not much to do (my career is in a highly essential service). They also were looking for ways to keep the business afloat during the pandemic. They offered a Home School version of the academy. They offered it 3 times. My cost was a bit less due to it being a Zoom style course. And there was no “out loud” part.
    The first time it was like drinking from a fire hose. Then it started to all make sense.
    I have slowly been applying what I learn, my job is pretty demanding. The great thing is I have lifetime access to the courses I took and can review them at any time and at my own pace. The best part, I got to meet everyone and there are others in the class who are now out in the content space. We are all HS Alumni

    Thank you Llama for putting this together. I’m really glad you enjoyed your experience and thought it was worth the price. Also, thank you for the feedback and ways we can improve. We will definitely take that into consideration.

    I don't agree that it is a "Scam" as DP put it but honestly you can get the same or better quality of poker teaching for a significantly lower price.

      As a long time subscriber of multiple poker training sites and products, no. I've never attended an academy (yet) but the online courses are like nothing anyone else is providing. This is more of a thought process framework for truly understanding how the game works in order to build our own strategies

    I appreciate you sharing your experience. I firmly believe you can just listen/watch CLP and win. I think this strategy that is taught is not necessary to be a winning player until you reach 5/10. However, I live in Texas, and everything is wild down here.

    bruh if some of the students you spoke to really need to be told why they shouldnt be cold calling qjo to a 3 bet oop then damn man i can give em that information for way cheaper than 4000$ 😅😅
    in all seriousness, i do want to say, i am a big fan of s4y and what they do. However after watching the entire video, I do have to give my honest assessment. I don't think the academy is a "scam" what so ever. but with that being said, alot of topics you discussed (sizing, preflop strat, formations, board textures, ev vs equity etc etc) can be learned online for free. it really seems like the benefit of s4y is you get to work with HIGH level coaches for 4 days. but again, a person can hire a very talented coach and work with them for a 2 weeks - a month one on one at that price tag. overall, it's high quality but in terms of price vs content value, in my humble opinion, you get can alot more value from 4k
    with all due respect, calling it "cheap" is disingenuous. I don't doubt it's value or the impact the 4 days may have on some students. But dude, most of the concepts you mentioned are not hard to find free training on from reputable sites. I think alot of comments have echoed my sentiment. You are grossly over estimating how much good coaching/training costs and under estimating how much of the content you mentioned is available completely for free for people who actually want to make an effort and learn

    • @katiemarshall7531
      @katiemarshall7531 Год назад +1

      I'll admit, I also thought subs weren't worth the money given the vast amount of free content out there. I was so wrong. My S4W sub over the last 12 months has allowed me to step up multiple times. I went from playing $1/$2 and $30-$150 "home game" style tournaments to taking down the $600 tournament at my local casino this weekend for 12k, then playing $5/$5 til close - all with a 9-5 job and 2 kids (so at a rather leisurely pace lol). I've tried 2 other training sites and I won't bash em but they are not the same thing and ALL my paid content has been better for real learning than the free stuff I was consuming

    • @kamman786
      @kamman786 Год назад

      @Katie Marshall I respect s4y and although I've never paid for a subscription I have consumed alot of their free content.
      The thing is in my reply I wasn't referring to any normal subscription, my comment was more directed at the s4y academy. Now forgive my ignorance if I'm mistaken but that program is 4000$ for 4 days correct? Essentially my reply was based on that price range along with the review that was given. I have no issues with normal subscriptions to their coaching site.
      The reason I kept bringing up free content is because alot of the concepts are available for free. But how much did your sub cost you over 12 months? Surely whatever price it was, it was better value than paying 4000 to learn those concepts for 4 days correct?

    Hey do you have to bring your own money for poker out loud? Or is it part of the 4,000 you pay?

  • @-crypt0

    cant get behind the 4k price tag, the concepts being taught are all available in depth in multiple training sites. as for the personalized feedback, taking 20 hours of private coaching costs a lot less and is a lot more personalized. IMO improving in poker comes from devoting a lot of time to study and not paying a lot of money

    what is a formation in poker? I tried googling it and there was only one result where that word was used in regards to poker and the blogs author assumed you already knew what a formation was. go easy on me. ive never used a solver so that may be why i havent heard it

    • @GRice999
      @GRice999 Год назад

      I never heard that term used in poker. Giving an example of a sentence where it was used might help. Also, was it written or was it audio. I ask in case another word was used that sounded like formation.

    • @noThankyou-g5c
      @noThankyou-g5c Год назад

      @@GRice999 he said it in the video. Said it was one of the topics covered at the camp. which is why i asked and looked it up. If you google “poker formations” there’s a blog somebody wrote about studying preflop chart solver outputs and he uses the term formation a lot but I couldn’t really gleam its meaning from context. granted I didnt get very far into the blog bc its very long lol. and it wasnt my intention to learn about whatever specific topic he was researching

    • @GRice999
      @GRice999 Год назад

      @@noThankyou-g5c I don't know, especially since the next term he used was "trivia". It could have to do with constructing the game tree in the solver. For example, when looking for a solution to a specific situation, you need to enter stack sizes, ranges for the two players, possible bet sizes (pot size, 2/3 pot, 1/2 pot, etc.) for betting, raising, 3-betting etc. It can become quite complex. The more complex, the more accurate. The more complex, the longer it takes to solve (could be days or even weeks if very complicated and on a slower computer). There will probably be a sweet spot where it doesn't take too long to solve and is "close enough." Perhaps the author will elaborate.

      "Formation" describes a specific orientation of players and bets involved in a hand
      One of the most common formations is Button vs. Big Blind, Button raises and BB calls, this is generally considered a wide range formation as players typically play more hands from these positions
      Another formation is UTG vs. SB, UTG raises and SB three bets, UTG calls, this is typically a tighter formation

    Before anybody even considers putting 100$, let alone 4k into this course, I please ask you to go to check any good mainstream online course, runitonce, upswing, and see what you can get for 25-100$. You will get 1month of access to a library with 1000x more poker theory, 1000x more hands to analyze, different concepts about the game and about making money from the game. Even if you play 100% live games, these websites have courses/videos made for live players, built by experts that have hundreds if not thousands of hours of theory study alone, meanwhile at solve for why you are paying 4k for a couple of days with people who amongst them combined don't have that same amount of time studying these things that they are trying to teach you. This course is the definition of a begginer trap, and anybody watching this can figure that out with minimal research into the market they are investing in.
