Public Land Day 34: Surprise Buck, Gun Season Excitement | The Hunting Public

- December 2nd - It's first gun season in Iowa and Jake Huebschman and Zach Ferenbaugh head to a public land spot where the crew had several encounters with mature bucks throughout the season. Their strategy is to slowly still hunt into bedding areas where deer are likely going to escape hunting pressure. Less than an hour into their hunt, Jake and Zach are shocked to see a big-bodied buck standing just 80 yards away. With no time to waste, Jake makes a perfect shot with his muzzleloader and watches the buck fall. The guys also celebrate as they watch a young hunter shoot his first deer ever. It's a day packed with gun season excitement!

Props for hanging tight and not messing up the other hunters near by. If only more people had patience and courtesy like that especially when you know your deer is down.
This is priceless. A great hunt on public land and good friends having a blast together. This is REAL deer hunting. You guys did your homework and it paid off. Watching that young man get his first buck was icing on the cake. You keep taking bucks like that and your going to need a bigger deer cart! Nice job gentlemen.

I know man I'm addicted to. I started watching them few months ago and already learned alot I didn't know. I've been hunting for 30 years and from watching Zack just go for it and on ground don't b scared if you spook them it's not over anyway 3 days ago from the ground 15 yards with bow killed a buck of a lifetime and I owe it all to these guys. An old warrior buck, Congrats Jake. That's awesome. I love it when you can't really tell just how big he is until you walk up on him. Couldn't even tell if he had any tines off his main beams yet he had those beautiful dark horns. Good stuff boys

You guys basically are a tribe, hunting together to put a prime animal on the ground. Rotating through is a great way for everyone to get a part of the experience, and I give you a lot of props for treating each other so well!

Watching you guys scout, hunt and be successful this year has been absolutely an amazing experience. I've confirmed some of my own strategies watching you guys and I've learned some other techniques for hunting public land. Truly an amazing channel, all of you do an amazing job!
I'm rewatching this video and I'm pretty sure that was the oldest buck in the County! That Old Monarch probably has been looping back around Hunters and bedding by the access area for 8 years. Every year after the first Hunters get in there and get them up he's learned to go back where they never come back too. Either just get picked up on the other side or if they do return to the parking lot,they stay in the mowed part not even really hunting anymore. Ya know cause most Hunters would naturally think those bucks especially have been bumped off the property never to be seen again. That's what I would've thought heading back to the car. I know this is long for this simple observation. Seriously though how many times that Ole'Ghost just stood stone-still and just let Hunters walk right on by? That's why Whitetails are my favorite animal on Earth!

Friend shot a nice buck on a public a few years ago. The buck did not go down in sight so he decided to give it an hour before trailing. He picked up the blood trail started following. Went about 200 yards and saw something orange on the ground up ahead of him. It was a pair of field dressing gloves...

@@joshuairvin6015ha I have not taken him out actually hunting yet but he’s constantly coming out scouting with me. He’s still got another year or 2 till he hunts. Also have a 2nd boy now that’s 2 and he loves playing with my calls and things. Thanks for commenting on this I completely forgot about writing this!
@@vinci8924 that’s awesome I just took my first boy out last year for the first time he’s 9 first year so I hunted the way he wanted and the 2nd day he wanted to go back at 9 so we did and at 930 trail camera in front of blind goes off 5 deer 1 shooter buck 1 young buck and 3 doe he learned a good lesson that day lol next day he set untill 11 and nothing showed up

Awesome shot & what a tank of a deer. Does the ghillie jacket help camouflage you by breaking up your outline, even though it’s really just the sleeves in this particular instance?

I've seen PPL get an 6 or 8 ft stepladder paint it camo put a strap on it and get above grass marshes etc. I'd like to see that on one of your videos.
