It's a bit disappointing to see how much this may have affected Injustice at EVO. Superman being as strong as he was at the time pretty much filled the brackets with him. They did tone him down, and now I don't see any SM players, but it gives no other character the chance to shine because of how many positives he has; zoning, damage, and a 2 frame super. It's disgusting, and now that he was toned down, I hope that this game still has it's mild competitive chance. Just gotta hope it's at EVO 2014 so I can get a chance to play this in Vegas.
Zoning is using a move wisely to give you the space you need to work from. What was happening here is not zoning. It's spamming until he has enough of an advantage to actually go in.

Here is the steps to winning an Evo tournament in Injustice. 1. Spam laser based projectiles over and over with Superman 2.grab continuously with Superman. 3.Spam more laser beam projectiles from afar turtle style with Superman. 4. Follow step 1 through 2 you won the Evo tournament.

The problem isn't the play styles of the characters, it's the game itself. Never realm studios has always put a focus on zoning over other elements like mix-ups, wake-up games, rushdown and grapples. I think you can fairly judge the quality of a fighting game by the variety of characters and techniques you see in tournaments.
From what I've seen of Zod, he just came out and no one was really familiar with what exactly he could do. That's why he was banned, they were afraid that people wouldn't have enough time to adapt to him or he'd have some broken potential. As for Superman, they probably should have banned him. That Superman user won Evo without any losses by playing lame with the lazers. He's just a really powerful character. At one point, I think he got 30% at full screen with ranged attacks.

Despite the age of the comment I feel the need to say this. People aren't complaining that he is zoning, they are complaining (mostly) bout how boring it is. It's not very dynamic or engaging to watch. Personally I always found Deathstroke's zoning to be more fun to watch by comparison. Simply because he has more tools to zone with and thus, more variety.

Yes close in on Superman and get hit for 80% corner combos. No downfall to Superman, his lasers are just walls of damage you have to cross to get to him. His lasers are only the beginning.
I am not talking about PerfectLegend or REO or TomBrady characters only CBZ's Superman And what is top player exactly ? 1) An expert who has done his homework in every match-up and has mastered his prefered characters or 2) A decent-mediocre player who just had the money and the time to go to EVO ?

Though I agree to some degree I think the reason spamming is frowned upon at the lower levels of play is because it prevents people from improving against good opponents, instead it pits them against dirty tactics which are quite effective against new players. The difference between this and competitive play is that you would expect that the best of players can overcome spamming and find counter tactics against it. i'd say KDZ only won this time because of superman having overpowered moves...
Why do I bother learning these 40, 50, 60 percent combos when no matter how good I get I can always simply be spammed to death by superman's laser? I would have booed if I was there
Um no it's not unblockable, you just take significant chip damage if you block it, and so are most of the other meter burns. Examples are Deathstroke's meter burn, Green Lantern's meter burn. Hell, Grundy's meter burn bypasses block completely. Arguing that meter burn is unblockable is invalid because 1.) They are blockable, 2.) You only have so much meter

After playing fighting games for a long time I got some of my friends to play against me as zoning characters (Sinestro, Deathstroke, Superman) and I found ways around them. spamming isnt really the same as zoning, zoning implies being smart about using projectiles and knowing the distances between players in order to control the other to put them at their optimal distance but in injustice especially this kinda strategy is way too good since most characters dont have tools to get around it and many characters' projectiles are too safe and spammable so of course a professional player will abuse this to win

Technically speaking, there is such a thing as Zoning, and Spamming. Zoning is using your characters' long range moves to control spacing within the match, whereas spamming is just throwing moves out recklessly without really caring for how safe they are.
injustice seems a little too experimental! i dont see more than one play-type for each character that uses them well, and combos look pretty chunky and straightfoward. i only say this after hopping off of MK9. the mobility and feel between the two games is completely different. not sure if that was intentional.
Oh, yeah, and following the thread all the way back, I agree with you on Injustice too. It probably shouldn't be at Evo. The idea that Injustice somehow deserves a spot, when BlazBlue, DOA, and SoulCalibur aren't in the lineup, is just insane. I guess it's cool to have an Western-made game in the lineup, but isn't that what MK is there for?

He wasn't spamming. In the Fgc it's called zoning which works wonders against certain characters.
