  • A cobra hood is a lightweight ghillie throw used to break up silhouette while give you freedom to move without being entangled as much as a traditional ghillie. These are great for hunting, airsoft, and active military.

    Very nice sir and thank you for your service. It's a lot easier to build a veil/cobra hood today than it was 20 and 30 years ago. Today, all of the stuff is pre-dyed and pre-cut from the factory and the base is also ready to go from the factory. All you have to do today is tie into the base and or spray paint it, do a ghillie wash and tie in your natural vegetation and you are good to go. Back in the day, we had to cut and dye everything and even had to apply fire retardant and let it air out for days before we even did the first ghillie wash. Burlap sacks that we cut, stripped and dyed took dye extremely well and it would absorb the ghillie wash on a permanent basis. And we used your standard 100 pound test fishing line and a quilting needle to sew the netting onto the bases.

      For sure brother, that’s the OG way. I’ve put a couple together like that and it’s not for someone seeking a quick project. Thanks for the input man 🤙🏼

      @@Wildman_actual Stalking would be excellent, really just any basics. Ive been finding basic soldier skills overall, have taken a big hit after covid for various reasons. I find your videos really capture the more fine details that are overlooked, without going too far into the weeds. Off setting the jute for example,, so its appearance is less choppy.

    Actually a decent difference between how you made this and how a family member use to make theirs during their time as a sniper.
    I remember him using a lot of material and brushing it out so the back and hood of my sweatshirt was a fairly big round mass. I tried making a hood about a year ago the same way and it’s just a massive mess. I’ll have to cut some off and retry this way.

    • @Wildman_actual

      Too many people want to add massive amounts of jute. I see two problems with this.
      1. You look like a bush.
      The problem with looking like a bush is even if you are moving extremely slow, if someone spots a “bush” then an hour later it’s moved then you’re busted. That and face shadow have busted more guys than anything.
      2. It doesn’t allow room for natural vegetation.
      These colors are great and work in most places. However they are still man made, tie on some of the very stuff you’re crawling through and it helps exponentially.

    I once heard a quote from an instructor, that it's always best to build your suit lighter, rather than darker? What would you recommend? build your base suit darker, or lighter? I would think going lighter is harder than being able to add in darker vegetation.

    • @Wildman_actual
      @Wildman_actual  8 дней назад

      That is absolutely true. It’s easier to darken your suit on the go than lighten it. You typically want your base lighter.

    Nicely done. Did you use jute on all the squares?

    • @Wildman_actual
      @Wildman_actual  3 месяца назад

      Awesome question, no not all the squares. You don’t want it to look like a bush. You space them out an overlap about the last 1/2 inch to inch. Like shingles

      1 maybe 2 bags will be plenty for the whole hood. I have a lot of different bags with different colors. You can get a bag of a light color and dye it darker for color variations though. You can buy some kind of dye or use something like a black walnut to dye it. If you have walnut trees near you.
