Melodyne 5: The timing tools

- With the timing tools of the Grammy Award-winning audio software Melodyne, you can edit the position and duration of notes, their transients and even the pace of developments within them. In this way, you can correct mistakes, optimize phrasing and reshape the timing altogether at will. In the new version 5 you can even make the sibilants visible, and when you stretch a note their length is not altered. But see for yourself...

I can’t see my self needing an update after v5. The amplitude and deessing features are what I have wanted for a long time.
Thats exactly what i thought too. At this point they could just stop updating or just refine the existing features more. They've attained that perfection.
Please add dark mode and more keyboard shortcuts specially in ARA mode with Nuendo. Regardless, this should probably be the most award-winning virtual studio technology plugin in 2020.
Dark mode would be amazing
I don't know who is more stubborn - Ableton not implementing ARA or Celemony not adding a dark background.
Yes
When I watch these videos, I always imagine that Stefan Lindlahr and the deep-voiced narrator are co-narrating a musical fairy tale.
I checked - everything is clean
Celemony wants us to think that we're living in 2030 and honestly? I do.
in 2030 Melodyne will sing for you
Installed, everything works, thanks!
Occasionally, when I sing, I sometimes get the best phrases when my head is away from the mic. Of course, this alters the proximity effect and my voice is thinner. Lately, I've been using Tokyo Dawn Labs Proximity plugin to correct this anomaly of my recorded vocal tracks. It'd be nice if this effect was built into Melodyne 6.
BROTHER, YOU ARE THE BEST!!! You oooh really helped me!! THANK YOU VERY
this is by far my favourite software
Its very good! Working! Thanks
Update great! Some nice automation features to create Rits and Rals would be great.
thanks, was wondering why these tools didn't seem to work all of a sudden - was because I left snap to grid on 😪
Sometimes the solution can be very easy. 🙂
How does the "timing tool" affected the overtones in a polyphonic material? Say for example the strumming guitar you have in the video, how will the "timing tool" affect the overtones? Does it work the same with the "pitch tool"?
Dragging from the middle does not work, it just stretches the note. Can someone please help??
That shouldn’t stretch the note. If you need assistance, our support guys will be happy to help: www.celemony.com/support
I have the exact same issue. Did you manage to solve it? I'd be very grateful!
@SonicRSA1 My nerdy friend said you have to press another key at the same time, I did eventually do it but it was totally counter intuitive and I've now forgotten which key! Not a good system at all.
Same issue here.
After a long discussion wit tech support, I've finally figured out why this is happening, also the manual is incomplete as it doesn't explain this. The reason why dragging from the middle doesn't work is probably because you have connected notes: the dragging from the middle procedure doesn't work in that scenario. First separate your notes, then proceed with the dragging from the centre.
Would it be possible to somehow detect vocal vibrato? Sometimes if vibrato is stretched, the vibrato interval (how often it oscillates) can sound unnaturally fast or slow. It could sound very realistic if the vibrato interval was maintained.
Yeah, that world be great! I'm just amazed about the feature set. Can only imagine even more improvements to the algorithm, but this already and kinda magical ✨ to me
Nice man ty
Hello! Thank you very much for your video, it's very helpful for learning this great audio processing tool.
Please tell me what can be done in my case.
I have two simultaneously recorded acoustic rhythm guitar tracks: one into the sound card line and the second through the microphone. Therefore, these tracks sound absolutely synchronous.
I need to quantize this guitar. I load these two tracks, apply the Universal algorithm to them because it's more convenient for me to work with timing. But Melodyne separates the notes a little differently for each track, because these tracks have different waveforms.
I also tried other algorithms, but none of them separated notes the same way on these tracks.
Because of this, I can't get the same quantization for these two tracks, and at some points the guitar atak sounds out of sync, causing phase dissonance.
Is it possible to make the same note separations for two or more tracks for the purpose of synchronous quantization?
Or perhaps there is another way to get the desired result?
Thank you very much for your attention!

Hey you ever figure this out? I’m in the same boat
What about swing percentage? Like the old MPCs so that 50% is an 8th, 66 is a triplet and hip-hop and funk mostly live in 58-62
I'm really missing swing quantisation as well!
The Quantize Time macro also has triplet values along with a percentage slider. Have you tried it yet?
For a song that doesn’t have a click tracked metronome strict beat can we decide where the best is? This will help it relating other parts to fit together and allow midi data when extracted to fit correctly as notation and the like?
Yes, Melodyne can create a tempo map for you, even if the performance wasn’t recorded to a metronome. Melodyne will figure out all tempo fluctuations, if needed.
IS there a reason why when I use the time tool if I move one note the others move along too?
Yes, there is a reason. There’s a difference between soft and hard separations. See here: helpcenter.celemony.com/M5/doc/melodyneStudio5/en/M5tour_ToolSeparations_2?env=standAlone#chapter-3
以后可以不需要额外再处理ESS音了,Melodyne里一次搞定!!太好了!
I have a huge problem and I've tried everything. The software was working perfectly but all of a sudden it started stretching a whole note like if it was attached to next one when i tried to move them apart. How do I can enable this??
Hey Niko, could you please contact our support team here? www.celemony.com/support - Thank you!
i cant move horizontal
Make sure that Time Snap is disabled (or hold the Option key while dragging). If this doesn’t help, please contact our Tech Support here: www.celemony.com/support - Thank you!
my notes won't move at all...do I have to hold down a certain key while I try to move?
If you have the Time Grid enabled, the notes will snap to the grid by default. You might then experience that Melodyne won’t react to finer timing adjustments. You can either disable the grid by clicking the corresponding icon in the upper right corner of the editing area, or temporarily disable the grid by holding the ALT/Option key.
why is it that when i move a note up/down the length of the note also changes? is it possible to turn off this feature or somehow bypass it?
This is not the way it is supposed to be. Please feel free to contact our Tech Support for assistance: www.celemony.com/support
Can we get dark mode please
I'm using Melodyne 5 on my MacBook Pro and I can't get the blobs to move left and right. Can anyone help?
Hey Jeff, seems like you have the Time Snap enabled. You can disable it temporarily by holding the Option/ALT key while dragging blobs, or disable it completely by clicking the time grid icon in the upper right corner. If you need assistance, please contact our Tech Support: www.celemony.com/support
Why cant i get notes to move? Im using the cursor but the note will not move.

@@celemony I realize because the snap was on
What do you do when the time tool won't allow you to stretch or move notes?? If I drag far enough the note will "snap" into an extreme position but minute changes are not possible. Do I have something weird enabled?? I'm using the trial version in studio one but if I can't get that to work I probably won't upgrade.
Hey Ryan, you probably have the Time Grid enabled which makes Melodyne snap all timing-related edits to the grid. You can either disable the grid in the upper right corner or press ALT/Option while moving the blob.
@@celemony that was exactly the same answer that we were looking for. Thanks for asking, Ryan.
I have a question. Why can't I move the notes freely? I can only affect the length. Please help😵💫
Could you please contact our Tech Support at www.celemony.com/support - Thx!
same here, have you found a solution?
@@Thomas_Sch nope. Couldn’t get thru support. Could you try?
how do i make the vibrato not sound so weird when i stretch the note?
Could you please contact our Tech Support? See here: www.celemony.com/support - Thanks!
Does melodyne time editing just not work in reaper? every time I move or stretch a not it sounds like absolute shit and is unusable. Any fellow reaper users in here?
Moving notes here (Melodyne in Reaper) with the method explained in the video is a hit and miss here too. Not talking about the sound, just the functionality. Seeing other remarks here, it seems it's a Melodyne problem and not a Reaper issue.
Hey guys, that’s not how it’s supposed to be. Please feel free to contact our support team, they will be happy to help: www.celemony.com/support

Is this included in the essential version or do i have to pay more for this?
Melodyne essential only comes with some basic tools. These timing tools are available in Melodyne assistant, editor, and studio.
@@celemony so in the essential version, no timing tool is available? It's disappointing
@@xidaodao9198 Well, you don’t have the dedicated timing tools, but you can still use the Main tool to edit the timing of notes.
@@celemony do you have videos to show what essential version can do to fix the timing problem?
Here’s an introduction video to Melodyne essential: ruclips.net/video/QLVJAmSYXaQ/видео.html
The most frustrating thing about this software is the fact they i cannot highlight a note separation, right click and delete it. I still after two weeks cant figure out how to get rid one I want to get rid of. Seems all the versions they have of this software noone ever said "maybe she should make simple and work like every other program right click , delete" Geez. How can they leave out something so simple? It is a german made program I think. That's where BMW is made and we all know how horrible they are to own. Its like they try to over engineer everything to make it more complicated.
Thanks for your feedback. You get rid of note separations by simply double-clicking them with the Note Separation tool. Hope this isn’t too over-engineered for you. 😉By the way, if you have more questions like this, we do have a Melodyne manual, tutorials and articles available here: helpcenter.celemony.com
Ohp found it.
