- Promotional soundtrack used in the Mega Man 2 VHS tape published in 1988. The audio was ripped from the VHS. Some parts may not be heard well due to the algorithm used to obtain the tracks. Capcom all rights reserved.
So they show the end of the first game…very clever capcom
The Wily Stage 1 theme seems to be using similar samples and keys as the original Elec Man theme in the first Mega Man advertisement
I was thinking the same thing, since they both seem to use a Yamaha DX7 (the Wily Stage 1 theme, however, also most likely uses a Yamaha RY-30 drum machine, since the Elec Man theme most likely used the DX7 exclusively).
I hope someone remasters the soundtrack with the same instruments
That's actually what I hope to do in the future. At least for me, this type of sound works too well to be ignored.
Well, I just released an attempt of remastering the Dr. Wily Castle theme on my channel, and I used a Yamaha DX7 (which was the keyboard that was most likely used) and Yamaha RY-30 drum machine (which was used in the early Mega Man X series games BTW).
I also did an attempt of Metal Man's theme on that promo VHS too recently as well (I even threw in a twist with my attempt as well). Maybe I'll even do my own takes on some of the tracks that haven't had their demo versions shown off yet (like Wood Man's theme, or even Quick Man's too)
@@SumisuBushidoCould You Do The Boss Theme From The Promo?
Sure thing! I just have to listen to each part carefully tho, cuz it's pretty short, and the voiceovers combined with the SFX make it really difficult to identify the patches that are being used on the Yamaha DX7, or if they are custom patches that are being used. Plus, stem separation software can only get you so far, and it severely struggles with synthesized music and can't even remove SFX. So this is gonna be a big toughie for me.
I love some of the instruments sound like the CPS-1, making you wonder how this would've sound in arcade format :)
Why were the Robot Masters greyed out though?
I think it's to avoid major spoilers.
Designs were probably not finished yet
@@nomatter7887 but they showed the ending of the first game…
@@not4nikiii Major spoilers for the upcoming game, assuming that everyone has already played and beat the first game. Plus, the VHS was made as promotion, so for all I know, only those who helped with the first game watched this.
Doesn't the CPS-1 sound use a yamaha chip?
...Why am I getting sudden OVA vibes?
Well this is interesting. Reminds me of LED Storm: Rally 2011, which Takashi Tateishi was working on music for at the same time he was working on MM2.
Thanks for isolating the tracks (or, at the very least, giving a very good attempt)
Been planning to do some of the 'demo' versions of tracks and this'll definitely come in handy.
Hey, you’re (one of the) guys working on the sequel wars classic tracks! Thank you for stopping by. Be sure to use the “Rockman 2 Release Trailer” for reference as well as it has Heat Man’s theme (using the same samples).
I remember making a cover of that one a while back (I need to upload it). I've been aware of the Rockman 2 trailer music for quite some time, and I was blown away there was more of these tracks, a few months back.
Also, as someone else pointed out on the original video, they actually use CPS1 instruments (Likely from Street Fighter II); There's a few similarities that I've noticed with an instrument pack I picked up, so they might be on to something. The drums are a different story, though. No idea what they are.
I think I did something similar for some of the other tracks, specifically Metal Man and part of Crash Man
@@ArmoredStruggleWagonthe drums could just be recorded from a stock drum machine, but I can’t be sure.
@@basicallysnakeMy guess on the drum machine would be a Yamaha RY-30, since it was the same drum machine used in the early Mega Man X games, and the sound samples on that machine sound highly similar here
Legendary find here, can't wait to hear a recreation of the whole soundtrack sounding like this
Well, a few days ago, I released an attempt at "remastering/recreating/restoring" the Dr. Wily Castle theme on my channel using the Yamaha DX7 and RY-30 that I have.
I remember doing something like this for what sounded like Quick Man's theme (except I manually combined 2 parts of it to remove the voiceover)
thats cool. Please subscribe for more content!
2:29 I think this is the forgotten second part of the Wily's Castle theme
I'd love to know more about what instruments/samples were used in those renditions, especially the drums. Other than that, great job on this video.
Sounds like FM Synthesis- given the time, could have been a rack or a keyboard.. or perhaps a NEC PC88 or PC98 computer making the music, the drum samples would have been a drum machine from the time too
@@FuzzballRenakitty I definitley assume FM synthesis was commonly used in the tracks. Though I'd be curious to know what kinds of synths and drum machines were used, especially because I'd love to replicate the sound when I do arranged versions of the game's OST.
@@CarloNassarIt'd probably be a Yamaha DX7 keyboard and Yamaha RY-30 drum machine, from what I can hypothesize.
@@SumisuBushido The Yamaha DX7 is likely, though I'm not sure about the Yamaha RY-30.
@@CarloNassar The @ChurchofKondoh has a spreadsheet of VGM Sound Sources for many video games, including the Mega Man universe. When you go look at the Mega Man X series, almost all of them use samples from beyond 1988. The only exceptions to those being the Yamaha RY-30 drum machine (the more likely choice being here, since the samples sound highly similar here) and Roland U-110 ROMpler (released in 1988, but I'm not sure if they'd combine both Roland and Yamaha equipment together). Unless you want me to make a version with the Roland U-110 in it, I suggest you check out my version where I use both the DX7 and RY-30 (both Yamaha creations) and make the decision yourself.
Holy shot, dude…
I mispelled shit, woops! SHIT >:D
Sounds like the music for the Mega Man 2 commercial
It’s very similar. Please subscribe for support!
@@Overseer190 ok I'm pretty sure it probably has the same origin (what they intended the music to sound like before converting it to Famicom chip tunes) heard those who participated in the robot master design contest got a cassette of the ost for the game (maybe it's the version heard here and the commercial if so hope they upload it online some day)
@@thesmilingman7576 there are most likely only 10 copies of it made
@@binarycode_ that means there's 10 times more a chance we find them
@@thesmilingman7576 imo the only chance is from 1 of the 8 winners, the other 2 were given to employees from what i read
Okkusenman!
Wow! Were these similar to the Heat Man music from the Rockman 2 commercial?
yes!
@@Overseer190 Ok, and were there more of those?
@@megatoonEJE a few more. These are the other ones
@@Overseer190 Ok, like what?
cool
Where can I find the original promotional VHS?
Nice
Can you do an extension of each track for 30 min?
I could try eventually
