As someone who currently is only able to do some 8-12 difficulties, I want to try and improve more, I do try to play at least once or twice a week, this helps a lot!
This is all great advice. I’d also couple this with technique studying outside of playing. Watch a lot of charts of a certain difficulty. Fact of the matter is, when someone is unfamiliar with the bounds of a difficulty, they will second guess themselves more and use more energy. There’s a lot more flailing, less form tightness, more adrenaline usage, more panicking, which leads to more nerves and more air usage. You don’t need to know every specific chart of a difficulty at every turn, but you need to be comfortable with whatever tech a certain difficulty can throw at you. More knowledge = more confidence = more body control. This is how people are able to pfc entire difficulties.
Another thing I will say that is more about saving stamina and less about building it is form, not in the way of stepping vs wiggling but take a footage of yourself playing and see: how hard you're hitting the arrows? how high your feet goes? how high are you jumping? are you using your whole feet? do you need to hit the center of the arrow or just the edge closer to the center? how much movement is needed for a certain pattern? When you start thinking about these little things while you play you see that you improve your playstyle little by little and this will help you preseve stamina
Excellent advice. Hit every important point. I'd say recovery days are just as important as the training. Recovery not just physically but to prevent mental burnout, too.
This video is great and correct. 15-16 is where I’m slightly uncomfortable hitting everything and 12 and below is where I’m pfcing. What i really need tho is 16th note crossover training 😭
Im like super fresh, just shadowing to get used to like 5-7 range, but still just following these steps even though i cant tell how good my timing is i still feel myself getting more comfortable with patterns and figuring out what im supposed to do with my feet (in theory anyway), might be investing in some equipment soon.
I don‘t play DDR that much. I‘m mainly a Pump It Up player. But I think this video doesn‘t apply only to DDR, but also to other dance games like PIU (Pump It Up), so thumbs up from me👍🏼 Also, watching your videos makes me want to try out DDR more often! Keep it up:D
Breathing and hydration. The biggest thing I learned is that players on high levels tend to hold their breath through difficult/high-execution sections and this is how you lose. Make yourself continue breathing even when your body wants to not do so.
I totally agree. I'am a Pump player myself as well and got back into the game again recently after stopping a couple of years ago. Everything he spoke about in this video is totally relevant and made perfect sense.
honestly just going for clear lamps (14+) and trying to raise my median score for each level has done WONDERS for me. i'm playing at home with the waterfall theme's lifebar, which makes it very hard to clear below 890k or so. i can't mash, so i have to understand what i'm playing. i played 3 times a week in the summer, now i'm busier so i play twice a week (i don't understand how anyone's knees handle more than 3 times a week). 6 months ago i could barely hit a five-note drill at 180. now i have 900k+ on every 15. i was scared of deliberate practice for a long time cause everyone said "it's not fun, you can't focus on fun". there are hard days but it's mostly been very fun for me.
I think one other thing I didn't mention hear you mention that is great for developing stamina is physical exercise/cardio outside of ddr. I know this helped with my stamina tremendously when I was only able to play once every week or two
That's a great point! High level DDR will require some level of physical fitness, and while exercises outside of the game can help, there's no replacement to playing the game itself. It's why I believe things like lifting or running and maintaining a good diet is secondary to practice. Could be a good topic to go over in another video!
Excelentes consejos, hay dos cosas que debo mejorar, el jugar canciones que te hacen sentir incómodo y no dejar perder la canción al fallar, que sería el último consejo 👍🏆❤️
Oh wow! Thanks for the all of these tips I was wondering how do I increase my stamina not knowing that I need to get out of my comfort zone it like playing any other rhythm games play songs I’m not comfortable. I honestly don’t really like fast BPM songs mostly around 190BPM and higher cause I tend to not react fast in enough to the arrows patterns and it can make me tired sometimes so there’s that and I mostly don’t like songs that don’t have somebody singing because it can be easier for me to follow the rhythm to the song because of the singers singing then just a instrument and it mostly doesn’t help that most DDR songs especially higher levels tend to not have a singer in it besides almost all of Jun boss songs but still I’m able to follow the rhythm to instruments just not as easily as a singer singing also I have a big bias to songs that have a singer with lyrics then one that doesn’t have one so I’ll have to work on that so yeah thanks for the tips again and I hope I can improve myself I mean I have pass my first 2 level 15s so I’m improving to clear more 15s. But I’ll start off with levels a lot of 14s instead
Loved this! Would love to learn more about improving accuracy at high speeds, I feel my form fall apart as things get fast. Is it all about minimal movement?
I believe it's more about movement control than simply minimal movement, it's being efficient with your movement and energy. Find that spot between where you're able to time well and where you start falling apart and start working on your accuracy from there. Pay close attention to how your feet are moving, take note of what works well and what doesn't.
Me playing novice and 1 song on easy on stepmania on a soft pad. I've improved since yesterday when I FAILED novice songs. All that really matters is that I am having fun and seeing little improvements. tbh even if I wasn't improving I'm having fun and finally getting exercise so who cares. I haven't been this sweaty since bailing hay in the heat. My legs are jelly, my palms are sweaty, and now I don't feel bad about eating a huge plate of spaghetti.
Thanks for the reassuring video. I felt like I've recently hit a wall for the last few months, and this video was what I needed to hear. Gotta get more 17 PFC's. 😊
I play nobar and stick to 11's usually. I play keyboard pretty well so reading the chart is never the problem, just moving my skinnyfat alcoholic ass around is tiring lmao.
It's not as simple as that. Doing cardio will not necessarily improve your stamina unless you're doing it in conjunction with practicing. You can be a trained marathon runner and not have the stamina to play through a tough song vs someone who exclusively plays the game and has played that song hundreds of times. Other exercises don't work the same muscles in the way DDR does and the movement doesn't translate over. Factors like experience with similar skill sets and muscle memory come into play here.

yes! listen to your body, if you need that day off then take a break!
This is an S+ tier video! Highly recommend for everyone struggling with dance game improvement
lei being the goat as always
I’m just new playing DDR and those tips are amazing to me! Thanks for made this in a very and easy explanatory way! Let’s grind some DDR!
This is exactly what I need, great tips.
Thanks, LEISHEN 🙌🙌

All very good advices! Really liked this vid ❤

keep going! you'll get the hang of it soon
This is very accurate and this has been my approach ever since I came back to the game

Took a break and my goal is to finally reach 15s! Thanks for the tips! I've AA'd all 13s and working through 14s to get ready and not give up!

I am mostly a PIU player, but these tips are great and totally apply to PIU as well :)

I believe mixing it up with something out of the ordinary and what you find fun is necessary to keep motivation and morale up!
👏👏👏
Stumbled upon this video while studying charts, Thank you so much, as a player who plays 9 to 12 difficulties, will try to practice more

thank you sir ill stock at lvl 10 and afraid to twisted turn and shuffle
can you give me tips for rythym foot rotation
find charts that focus on patterns that make you turn and practice those until you get more comfortable with them
how can i buy an arcade setup for my house?
I wonder the same for dance rush

Fantastic, thank you 🙏 definitely convinced me to subscribe, love this kind of content

Im a bit of a beginner probably megalovania for my best song
some people prolly just wont have the VO2 max to ever do 18s or 19s
most probably can gradually work there provided they are healthy
Thanks for the reassuring video. I felt like I've recently hit a wall for the last few months, and this video was what I needed to hear. Gotta get more 17 PFC's. 😊
walls are tough! it takes a lot of time and effort to overcome them

I imagine Cardio is the best form of practice besides playing over and over

@@lei huh, I didn't think about that o.o
