Wow, he was tall and very good looking. He also had a superceding talent that was very apparent even though center stage so often went to David Gates. I love Jimmy's effortless harmonies in It Dont Matter to Me. Just fantastic. David Gates - very talented dinger/songwriter whom I appreciate; Jimmy Griffin - also extraordinarily talented singer/songwriter whom I applaud.
R.I.P. Jimmy Griffin
May I ask if Jimmy Griffin’s wife Marti is still alive ?
A dear friend...watching this video captured all of fun times with Mikki...Miss both!!!
RIP Jimmy.
James was very talented along with his looks and his charisma he was quite a catch. It's a shame he is no longer here but his music is.💗
Jim griffin so handsome❤
Yes Jimmy was handsome
Until very recently I was unaware that James co-wrote this song. That was back when I was not allowed to stay up and watch the Oscars and it would not be until 1972 that I would become a young Bread fan.
I love David Gates, but Jimmy Griffin was so, so talented, with so much charisma and presence. He should have gotten more attention and time in the spotlight. Not putting down Gates, who is and was tremendous, but Griffin was at the same level as Gates, if not even higher IMO. Should have been more and done more and been recignuzed more. RIP, Jimmy.
Really agree with you jeanniewright!
That is cool that they remembered to thank Karen and Richard. Theirs is the definitive version.
Definitely - Awesome that Karlin thanked Karen & Richard!
I didn't know Robb and Jimmy had pen names well now, we all know...
I think their version is what really got the oscar for the writers, even though that wasn't what was on the movie.
Wow, James griffin won an Oscar ? ?
Yes, he and Robb wrote For All We Know, made famous by the Carpenters, to Fred Karlins Music. Robb and James then joined David Gates to form Bread. Mike took over the drums from a session drummer and after Robb stepped down to concentrate on writing, Larry took his place. Larry wrote the lead guitar music to Guitarman, though he usually played bass in the band. He also won a Grammy for the piano music in Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water. Bread was loaded with Talent.
thanks for allowing me to see this!
Sorry David...the Oscar its for Jimmy..!!
Yes for Jimmy Griffin
They should have had the Carpenters perform this song on the broadcast.
The song was performed on the Oscars telecast by Petula Clark.
I also read in an article that she did the song in the movie because Karen and Richard Carpenter had never worked in a movie before so they couldnt let them do it? Maybe some kind of union thing?
I did not know who wrote this! How beautiful!
The Carpenters made this beautiful song world-wide internationally "FAMOUS" !!!.
Yeah, this song is really good... The Carpenters did an excellent job and they also made famous "Superstar" by Leon Russel and Bonnie Bramlet and also "Close to you" by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Richard Carpenter is a outstanding arranger and Karen had a heavenly voice, credit where credit is due !
Big artist 💙
Look at that set - and her dress. Late 60s/early 70s was so garish
These guys beat off some very strong competition ..
Not that there's anything wrong with that ;-)
Thanks for info wasn't sure as The very best of Bread came out then as an anniversary I assume?
Yep. A lot of people thought they should have performed it, but the academy had other ideas. Of course, it wouldn't be the last time. Remember the controversy when Ann Reinking sang "Against all Odds" instead of Phil Collins?
The Carpenters were asked to perform "Bless the Beasts and Children" on the Oscar broadcast one year later.
1971
Yeah, like Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer.
I knew he was talented but didnt realise Jimmy Griffin co-wrote this.....what talent....more so than the late David Gates in my opinion.
+Sarah Greenhalgh David Gates is alive, sadly not James.
David Gates is still alive, and it’s not a competition. They were all great musicians, singers and composers.
I dont think so - but he had a wonderful place performing in Bread - and Im absolutely thrilled for his Oscar success ❤ RIP Jimmy & thank you Bread for your wonderful timeless music
Is she already drunk?
She's so fake and he's so cute!
