The video came out a bit choppy and there are bits where the audio isn't lined up with the video because I tried recording in 4K with my phone, but next video will be with my camera.

Great video. Is it me or did the screen in MMI mode seem laggy while scrolling?
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I too have the older and bigger NBT head unit and they usually suggest to take the glove box out to fit the unit which adds another hour or so to this job but with your method I was able to do it without taking the glovebox out. It is very tricky though as the space is extremely tight.
If anyone’s struggling to fit theirs in, I placed mine in an alternate location. To the left of the centre unit there’s a gap between the centre unit and glovebox. I had to take the glovebox out (can youtube, pretty easy) and slotted it in there. There’s sort of like a hollow area for you to hide it in there
No extras, straight to the point, and detailed! Great video bro
Thanks bro!
Great video with explanation. To fit in the box on the right side of the ventilation was really tight, but I managed to get it there. Then to get the BMW audio unit in.... You need to fit in all cables really good before you can put it back. Overall, few hours work and it works perfectly. My F31 2013 didn't need the AUX jack. Fibre cable is needed in the new harness indeed.
How did you get it next to the vent? I don’t think the vents are movable is it just brute forcing it into the gap?
If you guys want to use the steering wheel scroller button that changes the songs, you can change your audio input to bluetooth. This way car is connected to MMI unit via wireless but the sound is connected via bluetooth.
Would I be able to keep my input as the oem Bluetooth and have no problems. Pretty much all I want is the look of CarPlay not the external mic or using aux
You’re the best retrofit person 😭love my g series style key
Thanks bro! I might upload that video here too
I appreciate the video. I almost spent $700 on a box to get Android Auto in my m235. You have to use the dumb wheel to navigate everything on the screen. In my last 330, I used the wheel exactly 0 times, cause it's a touchscreen... You can get a retrofit touchscreen that does everything the blue box does for like $230.
Great installation video - we fit these over here in the UK!
Thanks for the video, just finished my install.
Game changer mod ! 🔥
It's amazing bro!
Hello there.
I have installed everything like described but no image only sound it’s show me black screen please help
Bmw 640 grand coupe 2013 nbt
Kind regards
I was just looking to do this! Also thanks for putting the link to the item in the description!!
Awesome you'll love it! and no problem!
Definitely going to get this for mine!
Awesome!
Great video but I couldn’t find a link to the MMI box. Can u send a pls?
Hey, here you go! amzn.to/3MsQrH
Do you use the Aux port to reproduce the sound when you are in the CarPlay mode ?
Great Tutorial. I did the install for my BMW 2013 320i and everything seems to be functioning except for the sound. Any suggestions?
You have to put AUX in the normal bmw media menu
When you go back to the standard idrive, what happens if you to make/take a call? Is it no longer connected and you have to go back the car play or android auto?
Hi, great video. I'm wondering where to find such a phone holder as you have?
I got it on Amazon, search “F30 phone mount” it should pop up
Massive pain for little gain. Just get a phone holder and use your phone unrestricted.
Is there anyway someone can link where to get this EXACT product ? I know it’s a old video but that’s why I’m asking .
Hi, i followed the installation process, How did you enable the sound/music on carplay? I install mine the other day but when i play music there no sounds. help thanks!
Same for me man. Any luck?
@@ErebusTheFirst Yes, I connected the aux line to aux port inside the armrest cabin then when you play your music, dont use bluetooth use the aux
@@kingamil29 turns out I needed to set my input to aux! But I did not need to plug in the aux cable
Question if you use sat nav on carplay and at same time listening dab radio,do you still get voice directions from carplay ? I’m not sure which way to go evo id6 upgrade or mmi box.thanks
Where’s the link to the MMI kit?
Dudeeeee! How did you even stuff it in there??? I really wanna try this so I don't have to drop the damn glove box, but I just can't fit the thing through the ac vent.
I just shoved it back there, the vents are a soft plastic so they can bend down slightly then back into place once you get the unit in place.
How the hell do you clip the two little wires from the stock one out man
I put a flat head under it then pressed the side pin down, slowly give the harness taps with the flat head from the bottom and eventually it will come out. It has to be completely straight
Thanks for the video! I cant see the link to the product anymore :(
Is it difficult to push the AC vent down/any tools needed or just force? I don’t want to drop glovebox so trying this method but don’t want to break anything?
I think I bought my car with this it looks the same but can't get my android to connect. I remember I did get it connected once but the audio quality was horrible and it kept lagging. Now nothing works it seems. Are there updates for these?
Where can i found the blue wire that you should for the mmi i lost mine amd can seem to find one exactly like that on ebay or aliexpress
I hooked it up exactly as you have it but I have nothing on my screen 🤷♂️. Also switched the LVN IN to go directly to the screen. Shows no signal. Stumped and frustrated
Make sure that the quad lock is firmly pressed in. I have had times where I thought it was secure but it wasn’t, which causes the headunit to not turn on.
Great video. I have the similar device and having an issue where anyone who calls me is hearing his own voice back. Are you facing this issue?
I have not heard of that issue, but i would suggest maybe a software update. Check out the "Andream MMI Unit" thread on bimmerpost.com
Very helpful video bro. I have a 2013 750li everything is working fine but the only problem I have is my screen go black when I hold the menu button. I can’t get to my original iDrive system :(
Any suggestions???
Hold back and the MMI should restart. Could help if menu will not. I think there is also an exit if scrolling in the MMI.
Thanks for making this video - is there anyway to have it automatically load straight to CarPlay rather than NBT/iDrive on startup?
Absolutely! And sometimes mine does automatically but there are times that it doesn’t connect to the phone right away. I have to disable wifi & Bluetooth and enable them again then it connects.
Does the car start in car play mode as soon as you start the car or do you have to hold the menu button every time you get in? Also wheres the best place to purchase this mmi interface? Thanks man!
Mine usually goes into carplay mode whenever my phone connects, but sometimes I have to restart the unit by holding down the back button for 5 secs then holding menu to get over to the carplay side. I got mine off of ebay from 6thelemento
Hello man i did it on my f48 (NBT evo) and i don’t have any sound coming from the carplay box… can you help me plz
Did you find out how to get sound ? I have idrive 6 evo as well and have same problem. Thanks in advance
@@hungry_crocodile_ the only way I found was to buy a usb to aux cable and connect it to the CarPlay box
@@animopi9104 ok. But the cable stay visible ?
@@hungry_crocodile_ yeah that’s the main problem so annoying or I can just connect the CarPlay but play ur phone sound on ur car Bluetooth u can do that too but annoying since u have to do it at every starting of ur car
There wont be any problem for Andoid Auto? also when someone calls, microphone will be working ?
I have not tested android auto, but the microphone does work for me when i use carplay.
Hey bro did you have any issues when leaving your unit hanging above the vent? I have an NBT pro unit with nav just like you and I don’t feel like dropping the glove box 😂
I haven’t had any issues bro
@@alpine.n55 bet thanks
When I switch to CarPlay it says no signal any suggestions?
Will carplay work on my f10 if my screen shows “no signal” error. Tried to swap lvds wire today but nothing changed.. So i thought maybe carplay helps me out?
Your headunit is likely dead or not coded to the right settings. CarPlay wouldn’t fix that.
Hi there - I bought this unit and installed exactly as follows. Same accessories came. I did notice though in my menu on bmw I have CD/Multimedia and connected drive vs just Multimedia - not sure if that matters? Anyway, all displays fine, music plays, drive wheel selects items, etc. The only issue I can''t figure out, the MIC does not work at all. I hit the steering wheel button or hit side button on iPhone Max and Siri wheel pops up and beeps to listen, and I get something went wrong if trying to reply to a message, or if I try to instigate SIRI to do something, the spinning Siri just spins, but Siri cannot help me at all. I'm frustrated as I have tried deleting all BT on car, have reset on menu BT and CarPlay multiple times. Am I missing something? Aux is clicked off on BMW menu, CarPlay under settings always shows Autokit, BT under settings shows nothing connected and I can't seem to make this system work with Siri or to make calls, as if. dial a number - the person on the other cannot hear my voice. For interest as I see on the harness wiring an external MIC input, I even tried an external mic and connected the wires back, and tried. Still nothing changed. What is blocking the mic from working? Hoping someone can put me out of my frustration and its something simple as the system is so incredible otherwise. Thanks!
Hey, there's an update to the firmware for those vehicles that experience issues. Check out this thread: f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1675929
Hit me up on Instagram @alpine.n55 if you need any further help
You have CIC. You need to connect the new mic and aux cable should be also connected at all times for CIC models only.
Bro how do you take the 2 green cables off the oem quadlock? I cant get it otf
Now here's a good question: I had an android head unnt for mine 2017 f30 with built in CarPlay with zLink. Does this MMI box, wireless CarPlay CUT OUT WHEN PLAYING MUSIC? lol! You're driving, making turns and stopping and going. Does this CarPlay box cause the music to skip fractions of seconds like a broken record and such?
It depends on the day but yes sometimes that does happen to me, I restart the unit by holding down the back button and it ends up working fine
Can you still use OEM FM radio? Or you need to change audio settings each time you go between carplay and the OEM radio?
You can still use OEM FM without any issues
@@alpine.n55 At the same time as google maps for instance?
No sound :/
How about updates to the MMI, would they be available?
Yes they are available on the Andream MMI Unit" thread on bimmerpost.com
@@alpine.n55 awesome thanks I'll check it out
Hey bro, 2015 F30 NBT iDrive and would like to find out if I need to connect an aux cord to reproduce sound and also to enable me pick calls or use 'hey siri' ?
You do not need to connect the aux cord. I have the same car, just make sure you get that optical cable transferred over on the quadlock and you're good to go.
@@alpine.n55 thanks buddy, really appreciate it.
Does anyones youtube function work? Or mirroring? If so please may you help me set up mine
I have the same but it wont connect wireless😔 i have android tho 😬
What does “NBT only” mean?
NBT is the type of headunit. Cars from 2012-2013 (some 2014) usually have CIC, and 2014-2015+ have NBT.
When you run carplay and change comfort mode eco sport bmw temporarily displays original screen and then automatically switches carplay?
It doesn’t swap back & forth but it does still display on the instrument cluster so you’ll still know which mode you’re going to
Ditch the background "music". It's really annoying.
If anyone has the same headunit in this video, factory CarPlay can be activated on the bmw head unit instead of installing this mmi unit.
On the NBT ID4 unit, one should never install factory carplay. It only has 2gb and will lag & crash. You'd have to install ID5 which isn't meant to run on an original NBT unit like what i have. If it was a 2016+ car with NBT EVO ID4, that may work. Some of the units are 4gb which is what the minimum suggested is to run id5 with carplay.
@@alpine.n55 yes, unit needs to be Nbt evo which was introduced in end of 2015 in most f series cars.
I’ve installed this however I’ve now have these issues:
1. I no longer get gong sounds for when the seatbelt is off/during startup.
2. The clock shows up as dashes, and I can’t set the time manually either.
3. The trip computer is all dashes.
Any tips?
Hmm, i'm not too sure I suggest contacting the seller to make sure the unit you got is not defective.
Did u solve that?
What functionality do I lose by doing this? Do my turn-by-turn directions show up on my HUD?
Nothing is lost only added on. I don’t get it on my HUD but I’ve seen it done before
@@alpine.n55 What about changing songs via steering wheel? Does that still work?
Will it work if my f30 is nbt evo?
Yes it will! I installed it in a buddies car and he had an NBT Evo, it functioned the same as in the NBT.
Is it lagging when your swiping from one screen to another ?? Seems like it’s stuttering
That’s just the video itself, I had recorded it on my phone and had to covert it to be able to bring it into editing software. It made the video stutter after conversion.
Nice! But you mixed up your female and male connectors lol
Thanks bro! And nahh bro male is what goes into a socket and female is the socket
😂
Female receives pins and male gives pins. Usb stick is male And pc port is female Who is right?
Mine is stuck on RUclips, anyone experience this?
Whats the little accessory on your hazard light switch?
It's a phone magnet mount, you can find the links to every part on my car at n55.life
Did you remove battery terminals before installing mmi box?
I'm doing the upgrade today and will be disconnecting the battery. You may want to place a cloth or something on the bootlid striker to ensure the boot doesn't close and you have no power to reopen. Or fold the seats down and be ready to crawl in with a torch!
you dont have to, you'll be fine
disconnect battery or nah? lol
In real life when swiping left or right or when using navigation from the phone is it choppy like on the vid or is it smooth ?
choppy
@@Whiteline95 So not worth it ?
Why is bimmertech’s mmi prime way expensive than yours?
This isn’t my unit, but it is pretty much the same thing as bimmertech. It seems that they put their name on a lot of Chinese products and charge 3x what they’re actually worth... but that’s the bmw aftermarket parts market for ya lol
@@alpine.n55 i see, thank you for your honesty sir. I appreciate it. That’s what i hate the most about liberal market.
@@alpine.n55 bimmertech claims that it is the Chinese companies that are copying their mmi box lol
@@kc2213 they’re all from China, including bimmertech. They just have their own custom firmware ;)
It looks very laggy!
This video itself was laggy lol. Recorded in an incorrect format and had to convert the video, it threw the audio off. CarPlay itself isn’t laggy
@@alpine.n55 I was going to mention the lag as well. Looked choppy when switching between CarPlay pages. It’s pretty smooth overall? Also how’s the screen quality when AirPlaying RUclips or something?
