I must admit I was skeptical at first about the ease of installing this unit but to my surprise the MMI prime was a breeze to install and setup, while it did take some minor disassembly of dash components overall the components, microphones tie-ins, and control tie-ins as well as the instructions, and wiring harness elements provided coupled with the superb German Engineering made it very easy to install. The support provided by BimmerTech was on point, helpful, and quick so if you are on the fence about getting one trust me it is worth it.
Good tutorial generally. TBH I was a bit confused with the idrive/4pin cords since mine were already connected. The way the video is edited, I felt (rightly so) I was missing something. I would edit the video to move the iDrive connection to when you have the instruction to drop the 4pin cable on the driver side kick panel--which per your video would have already been rebooted back in. I would note that for an automatic E90, the shifter is a pain and you will have to reconnect the battery to remove the head unit and center console. Also, I would recommend running the iDrive 4pin/10pin cord and the AUX cord down and out the driver's side kickpanel and up and under the center paneling. You can remove the center console box tray and run the AUX up underneath. Stuff the additional cord back into the void under the iDrive panel.
If you already have a factory microphone in the car as you can make phone calls with the existing CIC system do we have to install a microfone that's shown around the 5:55 mark? Thanks
Essentially the system always uses the built in factory microphone. It either comes with the car or can be retrofitted. When it comes to call handling, it’s either MMI Prime for the iPhones or OEM iDrive for Android devices.
I have the same question regarding microphone connection. I have an i phone. I also have a convertible so the microphone is in a different location on the E93 do you have instructions for E93 installation?
Hey! Thanks, we appreciate it :) Unfortunately we don't know what kind of wheels they are cause they were client's custom made ones. Sorry for the disappointing answer, but we really have no idea...
Why does the microphone y-cable have to be connected directly at the microphone in the head-liner? Is there not any other location where the microphone is connecting to the head unit directly? I'm sure there must be a reason for your choice, but am curious for the answer. Thanks for the great video.
For the CIC head unit the connection has to be done like this, with newer head units it is easier since the signal can be taken from the OEM quad lock but for CIC car it is needed to connect the harness directly to the microphone.
@@bimmer-tech Sorry to sound even more dumb, but does the microphone not land at some other head, as well as the Aus input? I don't have the schematic to answer that myself and was only curious. I'm sure yiu guys have done the homework. Thanks for the reply and nice video.

I have a very early F30 with a CIC-system, and a big screen. I was told I can use the NBT-variant of the system (as my screen probably has 6-pins), but I do need to connect the aux as well, as shown in this video. Is that correct? And do I not need to connect the microphone as well? (I used your VIN-check, but never got a response (only a newsletter))
Hi, you should decode your VIN on this product page to see whether you need AUX coding: www.bimmer-tech.net/category-bmw-carplay-mmi-retrofit As for VIN-check, please search through your spam folder, it may have been redirected there. If you won't find it please contact our support team at support@bimmer-tech.net with any questions you might have.
So started this, a couple hours later it got round to replugging the battery and testing it. Only problem is.. the boot automatically locked itself even though the rest of the car is unlocked. Apparently its an LCI model too which means there's no keyhole in the boot. Furthermore, back seats don't fold down so can't get to it from there. There's no boot release button in the cockpit too. Any suggestions?
You can use the second method with the external power from either a jump box or another car and jumper cables shown in our How to Open the Trunk Without Power video: ruclips.net/video/H9fMbFlicqM/видео.html

Also, are there plans to release a newer video on rear camera installation or any video for the front camera? The MMI box in the current e90 rear camera video looks like it might be an older model and I want to ensure that this might be something I can do before I purchase. Looks promising and thanks in advance for your response!
Cameras work directly with the MMI. And, yes we're constantly expanding our videos list on our RUclips channel, so new rear / front camera videos are definitely coming some time in the future. I also confirm the Carplay MMI Prime with the cameras available on our page are compatible with your car.
Is audio still going through the Aux cable? I understand you can connect to the MMI via wifi but is audio then just transmitting to the headunit via analog Aux connection? I am considering the combox retrofit (2010 e90 with CIC) to transmit audio via Bluetooth. Does this accomplish the same thing in regards to eliminating the need analog audio signals? Thanks
Yes, MMI Prime is connected to the head unit by AUX. MMI prime gives a WiFi signal to your phone. In iDrive you must always select AUX options. In terms of the Combox, please send us the last 7 digits of your VIN and we'll check if you're compatible.
I have an 2009 E92 which doesn’t have Bluetooth streaming for media (only phone) - will you unit allow for media streaming - I assume yes but want to confirm thanks.

unfortunately it's not possible with this system.
What are the wheels on that M3?
Sorry for the disappointing answer but these were our customer's custom made wheels, so we have no idea.
@@bimmer-tech no worries, thanks!
Does this use the OEM screen? And if can I still change to one with higher resolution?
Yes, CarPlay works with OEM screen. In case of changing the screen for one with higher resolution you'd have to pick the Panoramic Screen retrofit.
Son iguales que los de AliExpress??
We've never compared our module to products from AliExpress... But provided that our MMI Prime comes with dedicated support and was thoroughly tested, it must be better :)
Is Touch screen??
How can it be touch screen? They never changed the screen 😂😂
Can you see the full video? The function are similars ,like android radio i have the same function in my radio but touch screen 🤷🏽♂️
@@MrEacher How can the screen magically change to be touchscreen if the physical screen is never changed?? Can you see the full video?
Touch screens in these cars are horrible to use. I tried an Android unit and it was unusable due to the location of the screen
@@sali2873 i have 4 e9x and my vehicles are touch screen , my Android system is better than your your radio.
mr12 volt have one simular, but with MOST sound. I have it, and i throw my AUX out of the window. All stoff with AUX is shit. Sound with MOST is a ferrari compared with AUX as a Lada.
You save me
I don't have a retro camera and I don't need it, so how works when i put the car in reverse? Carplay switch automatically to original CIC visual with graphic parking sensor? Or I need manually switch to it?
Yes, the system automatically should switch it to your stock camera view :)
@@bimmer-tech As I wrote I don't have a stock camera, I don't need it. I just have parking sensor. So, automatically switch it to parking sensor view?
Yes, should work like that :)
Will this work in my 2008 bmw 335i?
Should work, but to confirm it, please check the compatibility on our website :)
