LG V50 ThinQ 5G Review | A Solid Phone, But Is It Ahead Of Its Time?

  • If a phone supports 5G, that doesn’t mean you should buy it. The first wave of 5G phones are here, including the LG V50 ThinQ; it’s a strong phone in almost every department, but it’s too overpriced for the features it offers. Battery life is also concerning on 4G LTE. Here’s our review.

    You made an interesting point about the different 5g bands. When 4g was released we were all fortunate enough in having phones that had multi spectrum 4g bands so it was easy to switch networks but it does appear, for now, that until phones cover all 5g bands it’s pointless in getting s 5g phone as you won’t be able to switch networks and enjoy their 5g bands as your phone may not have multi 5g bands.

Also, even though there is no 5G in my city right now it's available to be ordered and delivered by the 10th. So does this mean I still won't be able to activate the phone until 5G is available? The LG V50 5g is definitely overpriced but, to say that the Pixel 3a is a better phone is laughable (you could probably debate that the 3a's software is better). And it's also debatable if the S10e is a better phone than the V50 5g.
    Again, this V50 5g is ridiculously overpriced but, so is all the other 5g phones currently on the market.

    • @JulianChokkattu
      @JulianChokkattu 5 лет назад

      Why is it laughable? The Pixel 3a is all the phone most people need, and it has a superior camera + software experience (and the XL has better battery life). It does miss flagship features like fast charging, wireless charging, water resistance, but I don't think most people *need* that.

    This video is an example of the buying power of Samsung. There’s virtually no difference between the Samsung S10+ 5G and this offering from LG. The S10+ is considered phone of the year. This phone though isn’t even worth a purchase. Lol ok

    • @JulianChokkattu
      @JulianChokkattu 5 лет назад

      Well, this phone is not the same as the S10+. It's a 5G phone that costs $300~ more. The reason why, for me, the S10+ gets a win over it because it looks significantly better, has much better software, better cameras, and better battery life.

    • @dmac93065
      @dmac93065 5 лет назад +2

      Julian Chokkattu Actually, here in the US the LG V50 is $150 cheaper than the 5G version of the S10. My point though was Samsung has the buying power to get those who’ve provided phone rankings to name the S10 device of the year. Meanwhile the negligible differences between the two phones leads these same tech RUclipsrs to say LG’s device isn’t worth buying.
      There isn’t enough distinction between the two devices for that much variance in scoring absent Samsung’s money and influence. If the reviewer here had concluded his video by saying this device might be best for niche audiences because of its robust creator or audio-enthusiast focused experience I would not have commented. However, when he said the V50 is not even worth a buy despite its internals being almost an exact duplicate of the “phone of the year” I just can’t help but think this evaluation was sponsored/influenced by Samsung.

    • @JulianChokkattu
      @JulianChokkattu 5 лет назад +2

      @@dmac93065 Hey man, you know I'm the guy in the video? Haha. No, this video is not sponsored or influenced by Samsung.
      With that out of the way, yes. I know the pricing of the S10 5G; you compared the S10+ to the V50 5G, and the S10+ isn't the same as the S10 5G, which is why I brought it up. I've used the S10 Plus and the V50 5G extensively to note the differences between the two phones, and I *do* think the features you get with the Samsung phone are better. I'm not recommending the V50 because it's a bad phone. It just doesn't really stand out and almost every feature is done either a little or a lot better on other phones that cost less. When it goes on sale? Absolutely buy it. It's just not worth $1,152.
      No, the Galaxy S10 5G is not worth the $1300 price either. We also haven't said the S10 + or S10 5G are phones of the year. We decide that at the end of 2019. We put a lot of time and effort into testing these phones, so our decisions of recommending products do not come lightly.

      @@JulianChokkattu I wasn't completely sure you were the person doing the review. Nice to see you support your conclusions with your subscribers in the comments.
      I agree that for most users there are better, lower priced options such as the OnePlus 7 pro. LGs phones are greatly underrated for their built in military grade drop protection, best in class headphone jacks and ability to record in loud and now low light environments. But I respect your conclusions look forward to reviews when the Note 10 and new iPhones are officially released. Nice work.
