    Reminds me of my youth. 60 years ago I used to make aircraft wing and fuselage components in duralumin , sometimes it was a two man operation. The wheeling machines were a casting. Always enjoy your videos. Regards from England.

      @ChristopherJones16 2 года назад

      Man if you had a youtube channel showing what you just said it would be pretty popular. I'd love watching and learning how to make airplanes. I'd love to build me an old ww2 fighter plane with those mustang engines. Even a smaller scaled down version would be the bees knees.

      @@ChristopherJones16 It is all done with large powerful presses now. Aircraft 'skins' were rivetted, now welded.

    • @ChristopherJones16
      @ChristopherJones16 2 года назад

      @@roncooper6302 riveted sounds like it was easier to fix damaged skins no? Just drill out the rivets pop the panel out and pop a new one. The old timers really made quality machines and were masters of the KISS principle.

    your welding is of such quality that can be used in space to be keeping atmoshere in........if you give this man a lot of steel in orbit, he and his welder will ensure a space wheel capable for humans to safely reside in..........the stuff you build...........i have seen 50+ of your videos, so this compliment is much deserved........i learn by watching you.......i hope everyone else values it as much too.......great work Make It Extreme......

    I have been racking my brain trying to make a Dome Support and couldn’t get the steel I have bent to the needed profile, and you just solved the problem. The funny thing about it is I have made Laminated Furniture, Beams, Roofs and I never made the jump from wood to steel until I watched you make your English Wheel, you are truly brilliant and a pleasure to watch, THANK you for helping me.

    You are definitely a Great Maker; which includes Design, Fabricate, Welding, Machining. I am very glad to have found your channel. With that said I think it is pertinent to point out that you should Not weld Rusty metals together especially at the weld joints. A little Muratic acid bath or even applied on with a brush will take away that rust asap. Muratic acid can be found at most hardware stores and is normally used to clean concrete. I only mention this because I can imagine that so many young Builders/makers look up to you and apply what they see on these videos. We must teach them correctly as we dont want a critical weld joint failing because they didnt clean the metal first. regardless. Awesome Channel and fantastic job on this design !!!!!!

    Very impressive build as usual! Never heard of an English Wheel. So I did a search and came up with this from Wikipedia:
    The process of using an English wheel is known as wheeling. Panels produced this way are expensive, due to the highly skilled and labour-intensive production method, but it has the key advantage that it can flexibly produce different panels using the same machine. It is a forming machine that works by surface stretching and is related in action to panel beating processes. It is used wherever low volumes of compound curved panels are required; typically in coach building, car restoration, space frame chassis racing cars that meet regulations that require sheet metal panels resembling mass production vehicles (NASCAR),[3][4] car prototypes and aircraft skin components. English wheel production is at its highest in low-volume sports car production, particularly when more easily formed aluminium alloy is used.

    A stunningly good effort! Just loved the slit and weld to get the frame shape.
    Two improvement suggestions if I may. For the frame bracing pieces how about parts cut and welded in at 45 degrees which will greatly increase the torsional rigidity. Welding a plate to cover the whole of the back of the channel would achieve the same affect. For the hand wheel how about making the rim and spokes from stainless steel as the black paint will rub off.

  • @sitaylor3085
    @sitaylor3085 6 лет назад

    Very nice but with an anvil wheel you need to have a very slight camber due to difficulty manuvering the workpiece across two plains . Im sure by now you've probably gotten round to fabricating/modifying. Also a light oil will make work quicker and make conformity easier to find visually,always deburr before wheeling and just remember its not an easy skill to learn 8 years and i still suck!!! I use duck oil due to the lack of silicon and low viscosity helps massively. Great video and look forward to more!
