I think that assumption comes from the dogs reaction of being able to identify a human voice. Maybe the first time was an accident, but the second time was like "If there is a human answering me, I want her to know that I need her". I've rescued many cats from strange places and as soon as they hear a human voice calling them, they answer back with a meow (I didn't use a phone, but that's why I think that the assumption comes from that simple reaction).

My daughter dialled the emergency number once - decades ago now - I had my back to her while I was washing and drying the dishes. I could hear her and I was thinking how cute it was that she was chattering away to her toys like they were real. After a few minutes I turned to look and saw her on the phone. I spoke to the policeman who was having a bit of a laugh about it. I told him she had seen an add about dialling 000 and she thought it was like a chat line or something. He laughed and said he’d let them know they weren’t reaching their target audience.

Back in the late 1970s I had a cat who would answer the phone. One day, when I left for work, he seemed to not feel well, so during my lunch break I called home to see if he would answer. He did not answer, and I went home to find him nearly unconscious. I rushed him to the vet, and it turned out that he had a severe urinary problem. He was treated and recovered without incident to continue answering the phone another day...
I had a cat with a respitory issue. When I got home from work that evening, a friend 1500 miles away asked me why I called him at 5:30 am and just was breathing heavy in the phone. I said I didn't and I wasn't even awake at that time. I looked at my call log and sure enough, there had been a call placed to his number at the time he said. That goofy cat apparently hit the redial on my phone, making it look like *I* was making obscene calls!

POEM ABOUT THIS:
Two dogs were feeling bored and lonely
They had no humans to play with, only
A phone that they found on the floor
They decided to have some fun and explore
They pressed the buttons with their paws
And heard some voices and some beeps
They thought it was a game of sorts
And kept on calling as they leaped
They called 911 sixteen times in half an hour
The police were puzzled by this strange behavior
They traced the location and rushed to the scene
They knocked on the door and hoped it wasn't mean
They opened the door and saw two dogs wagging their tails
One big and one small, both looking very frail
They asked them why they called so many times
The dogs replied with barks and whines
They said they were home alone and wanted some attention
They didn't mean to cause any trouble or tension
They just wanted someone to talk to and to pet them
They hoped the police would understand and not condemn
The police were amused by this canine confession
They gave them some treats and some affection
They told them not to call 911 again unless it was an emergency
They said goodbye and left them in their cozy homey agency

I rushed him to the vet, and it turned out that he had a severe urinary problem. He was treated and recovered without incident to continue answering the phone another day...
That is the dearest thing I’ve heard all day.
Excellent....this made my day,week month,...year!! Blessings!
I love everything about this SO much 😂😂😂
I had a cat with a respitory issue.
😂😂😂
When my kids were young they blamed everything on the "no opposable thumbs" not allowed on the counters paws and claws fur babies. Come to think of it ... they still do today, but only sometimes now.
LOL
ooops!
That’s hysterical! I hope your friend believed you 😂
@@shellzabelle4146 thankfully, I think he did. But it took a little convincing, lol!
Like Rxckstxr would say, "they called dog one one" 🤣 I love this news story ... I love how you can tell which one's which by the tone of their barks 😂
Remi gave a very guilty side eye.
If my dogs could figure out how to call 911 every time I left the house, they totally would. When they see me head out the door, they look at me like I am committing a heartless crime.
Precious story. I love the officer. She's so nice.
Adorable doggies 🐾🐾🐾🐾
They are born service dogs. 😊
I was hoping to hear the dogs breathing on the other end. But was pleasantly surprised to hear the bark!
