    hi Bruno, can you make a video about sidechain compresstion? I can't make it work right... Thanks...

  • @GLBProductions

    - You're welcome! It would be controlled using either the gate or compressor controls, depending on whether you're plugged into the gate or compressor sidechain connector.

    Thanks, man! It would be certainly interesting to look a video about sidechaining. Especially in this device.By the way, how would't'be operated? through the gate rotary knob?

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - Yes, only one channel was demonstrated here. If running stereo you would of course run both left and right through separate channels of the ACP88. Main inserts are just like the channel inserts, except the entire mix would be processed instead of just one channel.

  • @GLBProductions
    @GLBProductions  11 лет назад

    - Probably both - use the compressor to even things out a bit, and the limiter as a safety net to catch any really loud spikes like dropped mics.

    - It depends, but in a simple PA system you connect the output of the mixer to the power amps, and then connect the power amps to the speakers using speaker cable (not mic cable!)

    Thanks for another great tutorial! Can you show us how to connect a compressor and Feedback Destroyer to a mixer?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 лет назад

      +Slash713 A feedback destroyer is connected in the same way as a compressor: channel insert if you want to use it on only one channel, main mix insert to use it across an entire mix.

    Quick question, instead of the "Main Out" will it be the same if I used the "Main Insert" with insert patch cord? If so, do I have to run two separate patch cords to the L/R Main Insert? Thanks for your informative videos. God Bless!

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  7 лет назад

      Yes you can insert on the mains as well as on the individual channels. You will need two insert cables, one for the left and one for the right main insert points.

  • @vasiliserbin
    @vasiliserbin 11 лет назад

    ))) Did you insert the Main into the compressor in the purpose to use it as a limiter, or as a dynamic gear tool?

      Darn, I can't find a good schematic anywhere on what to plug into where to do side chain ducking. If you know and it isn't too much trouble to explain I would greatly appreciate it.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 лет назад

      Sure - basically what you're doing is controlling the compressor on the music channel using the signal from the vocal mic channel. So you set up the compressor on the music channel as normal. Then you run a cable from an output on the vocal mic channel (use a direct out or similar) to the compressor sidechain input on the music channel compressor. Then you adjust the compressor controls to give you the appropriate amount of ducking when the vocalist speaks. Does that help?

    • @kiefhouse

      Hmmm, so I have an 8 channel mixer with inserts that I want to connect to the compressor. I'm trying to get all 8 channels to listen to each other so they can duck frequencies and create a breathing type effect. Am I still going to use the channel inserts for this? If so, what cables do I connect to the "compression side chain" input? It's rough, I'm a visual learner and can't find a tutorial on this anywhere. Thanks for taking the time out to try and help.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 лет назад

      You connect the channels to the compressor in the normal way, using the insert points. In terms of getting the channels to 'listen to each other' you'll need to work out how to do that yourself ;) Decide what you want your controlling signal to be and work from there. Good luck!

    For applying compression or other signal processing to the main outputs or other buses, why not just send and return signals on the insert jacks like those placed adjacent to the output jacks on the CFX desk in your video? Doesn’t inserting a signal processor across a bus achieve the same result as connecting it in line between the mixer’s outputs and the inputs of the amplifiers/speaker processor?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  5 лет назад

      Yes that will also work fine. It achieves the same result with the difference being that it places the compression pre rather than post fader. Also, not everyone today owns insert cables - in fact many younger sound engineers don't even know what they are!

    Hi Bruno. Many thanks for your very wonderful and informative videos. I have used them a lot from a complete novice to run my church PA system. God continue to favour you in all ways and all your endeavours! Thanks for continuing to impart that knowledge freely to many! I had to 2 questions on the current video. a) ACP88 to AMP connection: you've only run one cable from mixer to input 1 of the AMP. Don't you also need to run to input 2 of the AMP? b) With the addition of the AMP connection, do the rest of the connections on the ACP88 remain (are they) from the mixer e.g. insert from 8? And what's the implication when you send the overall mix to the AMP as opposed to the previous setup - were ACP88 connections from the mixer, I noticed most of the ACP88 channel were used?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 лет назад

      Hello Simon thanks for getting in touch!
      1) Yes you would connect a second channel of the ACP88 for a stereo connection - I only showed one channel for demonstration purposes.
      2) When you connect the compressor between the mixer and amp you are compressing the entire mix rather than individual channels - this gives you less control but is simpler to implement and still gives much better results than no compressor.
      Let me know if you have any other questions :)

    • @edmond2014
      @edmond2014 8 лет назад

      Thanks Bruno for your very quick response. The following further questions please. Do you still retain the remaining 6 connections from mixer to ACP88? If you do, what does it aim to achieve in terms of overall compression of the mix? In your example I still see the connections remain.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 лет назад

      You're welcome! It's up to you - having separate compression for both the individual channels as well as the mix as a whole will give the most options. So for example you could run high ratio, high threshold compression on the drum channels but a low ratio, low threshold compression on the mix as a whole, similar to what a mastering engineer might do on a mix. Experimentation is the name of the game here :)

    Hello Bruno. I couldn't find a video on headphone ampliiers on your channel. I heard these amps can be an affordable way for band monitoring system. Could you please explain how this can be done, and whether it applies for a band including acoustic drums.
    Look forward to hearing from you.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  6 лет назад

      Yes it can be done but typically you really need a professional to set something like this up and operate it. Monitoring on headphones requires a stereo feed for EACH musician/singer and also requires much more processing power than simple wedge monitors. So it's not really a simple or affordable solution if it's going to be effective.

    Thank you so much for the detailed lesson.
    However, how to connect a serial connection to an already on board powered mixer?
    Thanks

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      +philo fu You're welcome, thanks for watching. The only way to achieve a serial connection on a powered mixer is to use the main insert points, also known as the 'preamp out' and 'power amp in' jacks - these allow you to place a device between the mixer section and the power amplifier section using standard guitar cables. Does your powered mixer have these connection points?

    • @P37_28
      @P37_28 9 лет назад

      Understood.
      Negative, it does not have preamp out/power amp in' jacks.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      +philo fu What make and model is your powered mixer please? I'll take a look there may be a workaround.

    • @P37_28
      @P37_28 9 лет назад

      Mackie 1642-VLZ3, sir.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад

      +philo fu That's not a powered mixer my friend - a powered mixer is one which contains one or more power amplifiers for driving speakers directly. Something like the Mackie PPM1012 would be a powered mixer :)
      With the 1642 there are many ways to connect - you can use the channel inserts, the main mix inserts, or connect the compressor inline between the mixer and power amplifier. Does this make things clear?

    Hi Bruno. Merry Christmas.I am a bit confused about the amp Serial Connection. Does this set-up eliminate the XLR connectors in your video going to the amplifier? I am not sure I am following you. I think I am missing a piece of the puzzle. Perhaps I need to see another video that "reasons" this set-up as it pertains to the amp. Can you link me to that video if it exist.
    I find the mic channel set-up exciting as you explained it. I love learning from you.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  9 лет назад +1

      +Dennis Neuhaus Hello Dennis, Merry Christmas to you too! In this particular video I only demonstrated the use of unbalanced connections between the compressor and the power amplifier. However the ACP 88 features inputs and outputs that can be balanced OR unbalanced depending on what connectors are used. If you wanted a balanced connection between the ACP88 and the amplifier, you would simply use TRS to XLR male cables, or TRS to TRS cables. Does this make sense?

    Well. It seems to me strange to insert only one output line into the compressor. Why haven't you taken L+К and put into separate channels? - you could ruturn them into a mixer channel after that, having the "Parallel compression" -dry/wet- ability of mixing. And 1 more question - what about "Maiin inserts" - is it for a kind of dynamic gear, or simply another measuring tool or instrument?

  • @matressi6843

    hey bruno, how would you connect this to an audio interface? or can you even use it with one?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 лет назад

      Sure - the easiest way would be to connect it inline between your signal source and the audio interface for use when tracking, or inline between your interface and 2-track recorder for use during mixdown. It depends a lot on your specific interface and whether you use a mixer as part of your recording setup.
