As we all know common folk do see us scuba divers as superheroes, I mean we do breathe underwater. So as soon as your superpower comes out in conversation you will get asked about it. The most common ones I usually get are “Do you actually see anything down there?” And of course “What about Sharks?” I mean what are they teaching kids in schools these days?
So today’s video is more aimed at the non-divers to try to answer these questions on your behalf. Now these questions and answers will be at the non-diver level while Common Questions Asked By Non-Divers

Now that's what I call advertising 😁. Shout it out 😂
Should have displayed the questions longer or read them out loud, had to go back a few times because it was gone too quick.
Really too quick!
I second that! If you could edit it and put the questions back on the screen as you're talking it would be very helpful!! Otherwise well done!
Also the question I always get asked is how deep can you go?
@@GaryRudd "How deep you go?" 😂 It seems this one is THE non-divers' question.
I agree should have read the questions or displayed longer
When I tell one of my best friends I'm going on a shark dive; he just asks if he can be my primary beneficiary on my life insurance policy.
SOME PEOPLE ASKE ME, WHY DO I DIVE. AND I ASK THEM, WHY DO YOU NOT DIVE. 😉
Great video :) (One point of constructive criticism: display the question for a second or two longer for the slow readers out there ;) )
+1
Or display the question on the second monitor behind you as well.
I am a fast reader and still missed a lot of it!
I would also add that the choice of colour of the text for the last part of the question made it much harder to read, since it was basically the same colour as the background
#1 Question I tend to get is whether or not it's dangerous. To which my response is usually- if you're a safe person in general, SCUBA diving will also be safe for you.
I'm often asked how to avoid getting bit by a shark. Easy, I say, don't look and behave like food.
"Don't you have to be a strong swimmer?"
That's the main one I get.
Non-diver: Do you use cages when there may be sharks in the water?
Me: Cages? We don't need no stinking cages.
They always ask about our "oxygen" tanks. Then I have to give the super boring explanation of what components our atmosphere is made of, and that we actually usually just dive on air, blah blah blah!😂
You really got the most frequently asked questions.
And a minor thing: I found it difficult to read the questions due to the animations leaving too little time for the text to stand still. I had to pause the video to get the blue words
noted! :D
One of most frequently asked questions is about ears and how do we manage do cope with pain while descending. It seems to be silly, but for people not common with diving it's big concern
Q: Aren't you afraid? A: um no.
Q: Isn't it dangerous? A: anything can be..
Q: Why do you risk your life? A: Because have you seen underwater???
LOL I agree with you about the sharks part. Anytime someone says "what if you run into a shark?" I reply with "I WISH! That would be such awesome footage and experience!" :D Must scuba divers learn enough about sharks to know that they're NOTHING like they're portrayed in Hollywood movies.
"is it scary underwater?" everyone asks me this no it is not scary it is peacefull
I just started watching this channel because I havent dived in about a year and a half but I'm gonna start again so I'm excited!!! I've got all the hear everything I got my certificate but I'm gonna rewatch the training videos and books again.
I hate when people ask how much OXYGEN do you have
🤣🤣🤣
Mmmh, I love me some pure oxygen.
@@funboxentertainment1745 especially for those really deep dives. Leaves me feeling like a whole new person when I surface. Convulsions? What convulsions? You mean my dive dance? 😃
Well, there IS oxygen in your gas mix... Just calculate the partial pressure and multiply by tank volume and you get how much oxygen you have.
Nice Video, hope for more!
A Group of young Women (early 20 on there first Discover Dive) ask me: "How can you bit on the mouthpiece for so long?". Just told them "Yeah, it might be hard to image for you after you learned you shoudn't bite on a "hard" thing. But you will get familiar with it pretty fast!" Get a great laughter for that from the whole boat. After the Dive the ran to me and chew my ear off and told me how great it was. Great Day for all of us.
The one question I am always getting asked ever since I got certified is about the oxygen in my tank, and I always answer that it's not oxygen... it's air. Sometimes I also add that if it were oxygen, it would kill me.
I agree that you are not leaving the questions displayed on the screen for long enough. It took me a few questions to even realise that the questions were even being displayed. It would also be a good idea to read the questions out loud while they are being displayed as well.
Caught that plug at the end. 😂
We all have those curious nondiver friends. Good content, guys. Thanks.
Its always about sharks, knives, and spearguns to defend against them. Thats about 90% of the questions people ask me when I tell them I do this.
There was a time where i packed my scuba gears to workplace as i will leave immediately after work to the underwater world. One of m subordinates asked me whether i just gonna get the oxygen tank at our workplace to dive. 😓😓😓 Another question that i frequently get asked if "what is there is a shark?" I said, "then we chase the shark" 😅😅😅
People always ask "how deep have you been?" And then I have go explain that is really not what it's about since there are lots of extra concerns for every minute you spend under water at a particular depth. I just wanna enjoy the fish man.
Another common question is "how do you keep your ears from hurting?" Which seems silly in retrospect but is a legit concern for people who have swam casually in a pool.
I rarely get asked these questions, the one I get the most is "how deep do you" or "what's the deepest you've been"
“What’s the deepest you’ve been?”
Patrick Cabrera I get this one a lot
a transparent (in the edges / frame) mask allows more light to come in, & a one-lens mask (not parted above the nose between the eyes) gives wide visibility Those two can reduce you claustrophobic feeling underwater
Common question: why do you want to learn to scuba dive?
I had a lot of people ask me this since I've started with diving (my first one was a month back through a Discover SCUBA program and I instantly knew I want to keep diving. Which is why I'm doing my OWD right now...), not only my friends and colleagues but also my dive instructors asked that question at the beginning of the course. Are there any tipps on how to pass the OWD?
And I'm curious, have you ever gone diving in Hemmoor? By the way, I really enjoy your videos...
If you even get cold on a dive you aren't wearing the appropriate wetsuit... I got certified in a quarry in North Carolina in 50-degree water with 5ft visibility in a 3mil suit. We all had blue lips by the end of it lmao still a great time
im getting certified soon and my parents think im going to be attacked by a shark
I got Advanced Open Water certified recently and sharks are no issue. I've dove with bull sharks circling around me, feeding and playing with nurse sharks and swimming with dozens of reef sharks around me. There is nothing to worry about, unless you are diving in certain areas. But diving in these areas is a reason why we dive in buddy pairs, because sharks tend to stay away from groups for whatever reason. You're not going to get attacked, and in fact other things are more of a worry when diving or going to a dive site.
😜 Kaveer Bhagwandeen it is true that sharks prefer the taste of open water certified divers more than the taste of advanced open water certified divers. So if a diver wants to minimize his chance of being eaten by a shark he should become advanced certified 😜
@@dh5645 No, that makes absolutely no sense, because when I was open water certified I was diving in shark infested waters.
Kaveer Bhagwandeen 😜 And you didn’t get eaten? 😜 Not even nibbled on a little bit? 😜
As you know, sharks are beautiful and awesome and not interested in eating divers and we are lucky when we get to see them.
@@dh5645 I have never been scared of sharks.
My friend is a chemist, he is convinced that when u go down to about 30-40m depth you can feel your body compressing under the pressure XD As I just finished my Deep Diver Specialty, I told him, no it feels great, water is colder, and i swam under the Spiegel Grove!!! He still doesn't believe me.
HE thinks that u feel crushed, and water is more dense hahahahahahah so funny. I was like, you watch too much big bang theory XD LOLOLOLOLOLOL
C'mon Simply Scuba, thats a legitimate fear ive heard more than once.....
Your chemist friend needs to brush up on the definition of a liquid.
I just dove the Spiegel Grove last week with Rainbow Reef. Awesome dive!
I told my friend (not a diver), that i had plannen 2 dives to a wreck at 32m. He asked if i took a cylinder down with me.
😮
about breathing, the instinct becomes conditional. You'll inhale if mouthpiece is in, and hold breath if it's not.
I'm 100% certain that divers are the only people that would willingly jump into shark infested waters because sharks are super cool
True, we are always joking because when there's a boat with snorkelers besides our dive boat and a shark appears, the snorkelers panic trying to get out of the water and the divers panic trying to get inside the water before it's gone 😂
My friends asked me. Can you breathe under water? Me: 🤔 mmmm..🤔🤔🤔🤔
How does it feel to breath the air from tank? My friend asked. LOL!
What do you do exactly for decompression? And how long does it normally take?
The teal font over the light blue background? Whose genius idea was that? There's so little contrast it's practically invisible.
My first question is always about sharks. “ Oh, it’s so dangerous! How do you not get eaten by a Shark? “ I tell them the same way they don’t get punched in the face by other people, LEAVE THEM ALONE! After that the follow up questions are kind of short and meaningless.
I got asked if I feel the pressure of the water in all the body😅
The question I most get asked is “isn’t it cold and dark down there” to which I answer “I wear a dry suit so not to cold, and sometimes visibility gets a little dark sometimes but as long as I can see my compass I am good”
Then it’s what about sharks, Yes they are cool is my answer. Michael - Puget Sound Diver.
Not all regulators are downstream. Poseidon uses upstream. They have to have a opv so they dont lock up in the event of freeflowing 1st stage.
underwater air is dry however, leaving your thought dry (you may cough once).
Do you pee in your wetsuit ?
What if you get lost at sea?
Do you see sharks?
My parents aren't thrilled with me getting certified what's the best way to convince them to let me?
J Have your parents get certified with you 🐠
Tell them you'll split the booty you find on sunken pirate ships with them.
Tell them scuba diving is way safer then driving a car. Tell them life is to short not to try and experience as much as possible.
Tell them all the cool parents scuba dive. If that doesn’t work find new parents
@@scottclose6060 I could become the DAD !
Tell them it looks better on a job application
I have recently made a video for Instagram, for the questions which I have been asked. All Funny ones. 😂
Everyone asks me if it’s scary
What do you use to prevent water from coming into your mask with those facial hair? I started growing my beard out and was wondering. #Capetowndiver #SouthAfrica
I have had full facial hair since I have been diving and have never had an issue due to this. With a proper fitted mask you shouldn't have a problem.. best to just try several and see which one works best for you.
I shave the top 1/4 inch (6mm) or so beneath my nose. Really not noticeable and I haven’t had a problem since.
Do crabs look like crabs underwater
My boss asks whether I get to dive into Mariana Trench 😓
? that i get are you scared of electric eels when you dive reefs. half to explain that they are fresh water. but i do point out things look 1/3 larger underwater ;>)
Breathing under water? Literally aquaman. You should've picked a better superhero.
My family keeps asking if I`m crazy
Oh dear...
A question often asked, What is the deepest you have been?
The shark questions make me crazy all the time. (so, f..k you Hollywood) There is significantly higher risk having an accident driving to the airport, and then still some risk of an airplane accident, etc. Underwater are also many more stuff that can hurt you than sharks (mostly human stupidity though).
why do you dive MMM
to get away from nondrivers asking silly questions
Questions far to fast in text. Other than that. Great video
