    So this week guys the vote was pretty unanimous you guys didn’t care for social media so we have officially stricken that one from the records and by the looks of things you didn’t want to know about old obsolete gear that was our favourite to win so we can get rid of that script then.
    Well ok then you divers want to know why non-divers think scuba diving is dangerous. We’re probably not the best people to come up with these. But Shaun our in-house non-diver, has come up with a few things so over to you Shaun, just kidding guys we wouldn’t do that to you.
    Here are five things Why Non-Divers Think Scuba Is A Dangerous Sport.

    I think that most people who fear diving are afraid of the what ifs.I was myself before I actually tried it. They don't realize that with training, they will see that there are precautions and procedures that we use to eliminate the ( What if's), and also how to handle any situations that may arise. No sport is 100% fail proof. but knowing what to do certainly decreases the chances of any major issues. So the only way for them to realize how safe it really is , is for them to (Discover scuba diving).Once they experience this, they will most likely realize their fears were moot, and will become addicted to the sport.

    • @Admire
      @Admire 5 лет назад +1

      I recently did a discover scuba diving course and it definitely did eliminate my fears...I do however think that it's good to have a bit of fear as a beginner to keep your ego in check and not suddenly think you are a really good scuba diving because of a few successful tries
      ..and you are right..It really created a deep interest and lust for more which I'm sure will lead me down a dark road of more and more expensive travels to dive spots and even more expensive equipment...you fuckers didn't warn me about that before, now did ya!?😂)

    I started diving 3 years ago and honestly my impression was never that scuba diving was dangerous, before I learned more about it and became a diver. Now I think I have a healthy appreciation for what IS dangerous about it. Before I just thought of it as underwater swimming. I find that most non-divers are afraid of sharks and possibly other marine life, but don't understand the other risks associated with diving.

  • @Sebastian-mh8jx
    @Sebastian-mh8jx 5 лет назад +9

    Some people are just afraid of water and what is “down there”, but I have found, that some of them actually have lost that fear because of scuba diving and/or snorkelling because they could finally see underwater and if you can see that its just an alga that touches your leg its less frightening than thinking it's an see monster that can drag you underwater.
    As an idea for a future video, how about different ways to learn scuba diving. I, for example, have learned it in a club in Germany, and it's very different to learning it via a commercial company. For example it took me about half a year to get certified, with about 10 weeks of training just in the pool, and you have to ask different instructors, because they do it for free and have a normal job, and therefore not always time for diving. But on the plus side the certificate is almost free:)
    However I would like to know if there is such a system in different country's as well, and also if there are other entirety different ways to learn scuba diving.
    Also a video about underwater sports, like underwater rugby or underwater hockey would be great.

    Okay, 3 years late to the party! The only "Narc'd" divers I've ever had was a guy who took a literal step off the wall at 120" (36.5m) - headed towards the 210' (64m) bottom. Luckily, we saw it and grabbed him around 140' (43m) nd the entire team headed up. The only other was a newer diver taking a deep class and went into total zoned out/glassy eyed/stare into the abyss at about 90' (27M). Like others, never seen a true narc'd and handing off a reg event. LOL, Heard about 'em...

    I really want to learn how to dive this summer (I’m in high school) but I’m afraid that it will hurt my ears. I really dislike diving deep in pools because at some point when diving down my head starts to hurt. Same thing on plane but only one of my ears hurts and it’s always on the decent and never the ascent. I am not at all afraid of marine life (I actually work at the national Aquarium) But how long does it take to adjust getting used to breathing under water with all of the equipment?

      Are you making sure to equalise when diving deep in the pool? I just finished my open water diving course which is the first step. I did a lot of theory, 1 full day in the pool and 2 days diving off the boat. I had a near death experience while free diving prior to this course but i managed to overcome it. Now i absolutely love diving and im sure you will if you give it a go 😊👍

    I'm scared to get back in the water after I lost my goggles at ~30ft on my first sea dive. Trying to retrieve them, kept taking water in threw my nose and breathing it in, desperately hitting the button on the front of my mouthpiece to purge the water out of my mouth + maybe my sinuses.
    I panicked looking up and needing to make a decision to possibly pass out from unfamiliarity with what was happening and how to deal with it, frantically swam to the surface at the last second fearing the worst. Made it topside and instantly started choking getting new air in and panting, horrible migraine for about 24hrs.
    I want to get back in, but I'm petrified that it will happen again and that my sinusitis or whatever problems I do/n't have are keeping me from diving.

  • @ronjeffrey8641
    @ronjeffrey8641 2 года назад

    The main reason non divers think diving is dangerous is due to how it's depicted in the media. I've been diving for nearly 40 years and I've never been attacked by a shark, bitten by a barracuda, mauled by a moray eel or even cut myself on a piece of coral. (Although a carp once bumped into me on a lake dive.) I've never had the bends, nitrogen narcossis, or an air embolism, never even seen a hyperbaric chamber up close. And I've never had anyone attack me and try to cut my air hose. But let's face it if movies and television depicted diveing as it really is it would make for a pretty boring show. It's nearly impossible to convey the actual diving experience to someone who hasn't been there. The excitement of seeing things that you had previously only seen in books or video, the feeling of flying. T be honest one advantage (beyond safety concerns) about diving with a buddy or in a group is the ability to have people to share the experience with afterwards. So often when telling people about a dive I'm asked, "Did you see any sharks" (Particularly amusing when you're telling them about a dive in Lake Erie) but when you don't have some life threatening adventure to relate they get bored and change the subject.
    My most harrowing adventure was getting tangled in a wad of monofilament fishing line... Thank God for that foot long dive knife that Lloyd Bridges said I needed.

    Still think recreational SCUBA is dangerous? Have a look and you’ll find it’s included as standard on most ordinary travel insurance:
    * Scuba diving up to depth of 30 metres (if qualified or accompanied by qualified instructor and not diving alone or involved in cave diving).
    Then have a look at the sports that are NOT covered as standard and so require an extra premium:
    * Amateur Athletics
    * Bungee Jumping
    * Cricket
    * Dry Slope Skiing
    * Gymkhana
    * Mountain Biking
    * Sea Kayaking
    * Trampolining

    What is nitrogen narcosis?

    • @iamdeepsea
      @iamdeepsea 5 лет назад

      Nitrogen narcosis is the state of euphoria and exhilaration that
      occurs when a diver breathes a gas mixture with a nitrogen partial pressure greater
      than approximately 4 ata.
      Causes of Nitrogen Narcosis. Breathing nitrogen at high partial pressures has
      a narcotic effect on the central nervous system that causes euphoria and impairs
      the diver’s ability to think clearly. The narcotic effect begins at a nitrogen partial
      pressure of approximately 4 ata and increases in severity as the partial pressure
      is increased beyond that point. The symptoms of nitrogen narcosis include:
      „ Loss of judgment or skill
      „ A false feeling of well-being
      „ Lack of concern for job or safety
      „ Apparent stupidity
      „ Inappropriate laughter
      „ Tingling and vague numbness of the lips, gums, and legs
      Disregard for personal safety is the greatest hazard of nitrogen narcosis. Divers
      may display abnormal behavior such as removing the regulator mouthpiece or
      swimming to unsafe depths without regard to decompression sickness or air supply.
