only if you went north from the gate. I went straight across white wolf mountain and walked either to the gnome stronghold to do agility or castle wars, can't remember which
@@Saltiren It's still fun, I recommend it. The new content isn't that bothersome, and most people come round to it after they've had their fill of nostalgia
I loved how when you first became a member you forgot to realise there would be new music just as much as new world, and it was a world-shattering experience all of its own. Principality rocks.
I remember first getting membership in 2008ish and exploring northwards past the members gate for the first time. This track started playing, and I saw the soldiers training in sync to the beat. Since then, this has been my favorite RS track.
heh its funny reading this comment cuz I remember experiencing the exact same thing back when I got membership for the first time in 2019, but in OSRS.
I used to think everyone who was alching in the bank was so cool. Never learned how to high alch until I picked up the game years later. By that time, however, the game was almost in the RS3 stage. It's never been the same. I'm glad that Jagex is developing as a company and hiring new people who are really passionate about the game, even if the product can take some awkward turns.
it was cool on release and a few years after that. the only thing old school about it now is the graphics. gameplay and style is far from the same as the real 07scape.
@@madsulrik5rs because of inexapable powercreep and progression. Tho i think they managed to stretch it as long as they could! They are doing great work keeping the game alive while remaining enough oldschool for me.
@@AmeriCHAD ye its alot of fun! you will love it haha trust me! they stay very oldschool even with the new items and stuff. game gets better and better!
I actually managed to play a game of connect 4 in Burthorpe games room once. I can't remember if i won or lost, but for some reason I didn't like playing. It felt weird to play against people even though i quite enjoy connect 4
I remember the first time I went into Burthope before the updates. I remember going around then finally finding the Warriors Guild which drove me to raise my combat skills dramatically.
Fuck, man, so many memories... I quit this game 7 years ago. People suggesting me these types of things makes me feel sad. RuneScape was one of the few places I felt like I belonged, but it was around 2010-2011 when it all started changing.
armies of gielinor as well! i would sit there for hours swarming enemies with mages i wouldn't get any rating because i was f2p but it was insane amounts of fun
I started playing not long before death plateau came out. I remember there being a beach north of the hero's guild. When death plateau came out it was like... this whole new place, it was so cool. I found a bug where if you stood behind the guard in the palace he wouldn't hit you back. I'd kill him over and over for mith warhammers. pretty sure i got 30 attack there lol.
wondering why the games room is underneath a place that has a bunch of soldiers next to a mountain full of trolls and a underground maze filled with rotating blades and spikes
You could make a fairly good Minecraft version of most songs created with GM. The only problems is that Minecraft noteblocks can only produce 5 sounds and can't sustain notes.
Man that evolution of combat must have been a bad decision buisness wise.. All the hype and then something that was so radically different, took the balance from the game and arguably some of the enjoyability and turned it almost into a different game.
Runescape was always a bit of a meh "game" but a very cool experience in the way that it was the player base, sense of progression, and the uniqueness of the world which gave it a lot of charm. Once the progression was messed with beyond repair it was kind of a done deal due to the game getting a little stale because of the grind and the odd balance between the "Role player" aspect and the actual game mechanics which were somewhat boring compared to other hot MMOs at the time like World of Warcraft (and the rise of polished online games). The team went over their heads a bit and attempted to capitalize on the success with too many knee jerk additions. Simply put, I don't think the team was expecting or ready to deal with the maintenance that was Runescape 2.
@@Crabbadabba I think it wasn't meh it's an acquired taste but I agree with a lot. I wonder how much of the staff were changed along the way as the vision was changed so much after 2010..
@@Piranesi-gc8gn I don't like the word meh but I don't know what other word to describe it. It just wasn't exceptional on anyone one element, hence "meh". But the sum of the elements was far better than meh and once you reached that realization it was really rewarding and engrossing. However, things like pacing felt kind of sluggish especially when you didn't use a guide. I think the pacing feels the way it is because of the amount of knowledge you have to know and not the amount of interactivity that goes on. You're just clicking on stuff most of the time usually not in a rhythmic way, so combat feels more like rolling the dice than a coordination button mashing twitch fest. PKers and boss battles are a little different but still, the input feels less instantaneous when compared to games like WoW. I remember there being talk about the staff wanting to compete with WoW at the time or at the very least being inspired by their success (EoC was a copy of WoW's combat system.) Definitely wasn't a good change. So yeah the staff was most likely undergoing changes as well as the company structure, with older employees leaving as well.
@@Senriam The “end” game as in the end of the game where you know how to get everything efficiently and just strive to hoard ridiculous amounts of stuff isn’t very fun to me.
