I'm from nz lived there for 30 years. I live in the uk now I miss nz the lifestyle and the standard of living but when I go back to visit I can't belive how expensive things are.
Once the pretty lakes and mountains wear off you’ll find NZ hugely overrated. Astronomical housing and food costs, transport and traffic that make developing nations look advanced - and shit wages. Seriously - there’s a reason kiwis are leaving in droves esp for oz - similar costs but much higher earnings. Nz is pretty quiet even boring too depending on what you like. Think v carefully before you come here.
Such a great vlog guys! I absolutely love your videos-they’re always filled with such great energy and valuable information. 👍👏Thank you for this update on the cost of living in New Zealand. Everywhere seems expensive these days, and the cost of living has certainly gone up here in Canada as well.🤔 It’s so natural to compare prices to the currency of your home country when you first move somewhere new-that’s just how the brain works!😄 I’m so glad to see you, you beautiful couple, happy and enjoying life🥰 Lots of love to both of you.💖💖
Nice backdrop while walking around. Akl has changed o❤very the years. I must say, those Woolies price$ are very much inline with ours here in Sydney. Only a few cents different.
Thanks for noticing the background as we were walking around 😁 Interesting to hear Woolies prices are similar in Sydney, we're always hearing that groceries are so much cheaper over in Oz 🤨
Hello to the (lovely) pair of you. So good to see you on a fine sunny spring day in Auckland. How are you? Winter FINALLY arrived in Dubrovnik, about time. Thank you for this fair assessment of your monthly running costs. Whenever I look at what you guys pay for groceries in New Zealand (in NZ$) and compare to what we pay for equivalent items here in Euroland, I am shocked at how much more most grocery items seem in New Zealand. Long time ago (1999-2008), when I lived in New Zealand, I eventually started shopping at the likes of Pak and Save which I found was somewhat cheaper. Good to see that you are also “budgeting” for savings. Ultimately, unless you are budget conscious and thrifty, you are probably not going to be left with much at the end of every month. Lastly, I am glad that you have finally stopped converting into ZAR, it is a banana republic currency, you are truly blessed to be earning what can only be described as a “hard currency”. Stay well and keep on smiling. Regards from Croatia….Zoltan
Seems like you're excited for winter over there in Croatia :) We can't be happier to FINALLY have some warm weather haha Yes, Pak and Save is definitely better, we'll share our shopping experience in our next video. Have a great weekend Zoltan!
I would suggest for newcomers to start small and avoid racking up debt. People over the years that came and gone back to SA was the ones that went on a big spend and the debt payments will mess with your budget. We have a single income, four people, four dogs and we spend $350 per week on groceries including dogfood, dog treats, cleaning products and cosmetics. So just live within your means. Over the last 16 years, my husbands income multiplied by 4, so still good opportunities for growth in our experience.
We are 2 adults living in East Auckland and surviving more than fine on 1 salary of $5600pm. Our rent is $650pw and we go camping a few times a year for holiday. Mostly cook at home but also often go for a beer or dinner. We also have 1 car and I use public transport, which is a pleasure. It's a livable wage and 1000% worth it being here!
We live in East Auckland in a 4 1/2 bedroom. 2 1/2 bath room and double garage. Close to the motorway and close to all shops. Our rent is $850 per week.
No regrets moving to NZ? I heard that Joburg SA has an incredibly low cost of living index - approximately 74% compared to Auckland NZ, which is almost double at 147%. That's a massive difference. NZ might be picturesque and green, etc, but it's so bloody hard to get ahead here, and it's not as safe as people think: crime rates are going up exponentially. It's not the paradise everyone thinks it is IMHO
@Chris-eq3en I think you missed the point of my message and have conflated things. I was talking about the cost of living, not the crime in SA per se. I'm absolutely aware of the crime in SA as I have family living there, and they've told me, so no, I'm not out of touch.
Also depends where you live in the country some things are more expensive in Auckland something cheaper in Auckland compared to Christchurch we have lived in Auckland and now rural Canterbury in Oxford I love that it hardly rains couldn't stand Auckland weather it rains almost every day
me and my wife live in auckland i work in aviation and my wife is a nurse but still we dont save much because we help our family back. we're planning to move on other country. NZ is so expensive. FYI we budget everything and were not spender. but yeah NZ is really great country.
Current exchange rate is R10.62 / NZ $ . So working on $8000 / month that equates to earning R85 000 per month 😳 Equates to over a million rands per year
😔 I know, it’s crazy! That’s why I didn’t even think of showing the amounts in Rands as well 🙈😅 might sound like a fortune, but if you convert $850 per week for rent, that’s almost R9000, that’s basically what we used to pay per month is SA 😭😅
My family comes back from australia and cant believe the prices but love the life here but no freedom in lifestyle.. But australia is going up in cost of living but abit slower
@ you’re grammars a little off so, I’m not sure what your actual question is. I’m on a great wage here, plus it’s a dual currency. I get paid in US dollars. Living very comfortably, so do a lot of the ex pats here
The rent you are paying seems a lot. I’m sure you could get a nice 2 bedder for less. Then you could save more. But you look happy, so good luck living here in Auckland.
Maybe if you look further away from the city? But as I was looking on the real estate websites for this video, there weren't many spacious 2 bed options available at a good price 🫥
So glad to live in a smaller town and mortgage free. Essentially one income no kids but mortgage free helps so much. House needs a lot of cosmetics but it’s solid. E.g will be spending $40k on a new fence to enclose the property. Also all the stupid sound effects stupid , so annoying could not make it to the end .
There's benefits in NZ. You really don't need to work just apply for jobs and you will get $280-400 free money from the Govt. Even better if you have kids under 16 years old and solo parents you are entitled to a lot of money + cheap housing rentals.
I've never been paid anywhere near that amount in NZ. Most businesses in NZ will only pay minimum wage, or just above at the most. And yes I have qualifications. NZ is becoming ridiculous.
@@Entertainment- Nope employer issue. I'm a qualified computer tech these days, left my last career path due to crap money. There's are reason why news media report on 'The Brain Drain,' going to Aussie to make better money. Most NZ employers arses are so tight when they fart they whistle.

When budgeting for weekly rent. You should not multiply $850 * 4 ($3400).
You should: ($850*52)/12=$3683
Exactly what I was gonna type.
Great tip! Before coming to NZ, we've never dealt with weekly costs, so it's been quite an adjustment for us 🙈
