quick tip to remove grips, use your air compressor to force air underneath the grip and start to twist/pull the grip off. works like a charm and very quick and effortless
Thanks! I'm buying my second bike tomorrow and I want to buy blue waffle grips for it because it's a yamaha, and the current grips are grey or black. It'll match the rest of the bike.
That tool is actually for lock-wire, something that is used in high vibration parts such as jet engines, where it is mainly used. There are holes in the nuts that they loop wire into to keep them tight, and they go between every bolt in such a way that they can only get tighter, and the tool is used to make the wire into a strong cable or to tie them off at their ends.
pharettface I'm with ya. Grip glue is a pain in the butt. I do think it lasts a little longer than paint, but it's worth the trade-off for me. Hairspray is another very common one, but I haven't tried it myself. - jc
I love it "Stick it on your broom handle." any ways I like how you respond to everyone asking questions. I got 2 for you. first whats your favorite grips? second i'm 13 out to be 14 5' 2" and 96 pounds what bike do you think would be good i like to do small jumps often and ride around fields on the farm i was thinking about a Suzuki rm85, Yamaha yz85, Kawasaki kx85, also maybe a Honda trail bike but I might break the suspension. this will also be my first dirt bike
Hey CaptainPatchXIV-Productions, sorry for the slow response, was out of the office much of last week. Here are my answers to your questions. 1) Favorite Grips - ProTaper PIllow-Top MX Grips - These are very comfortable, have decent lifespan and I like the color options (even though I cut off the ends for my hand guards). The colored ends are very durable for extra crash resistance also. Here's a link: www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14448/i/pro-taper-pillow-top-mx-grips 2) Any of the 80/85cc two-strokes like the ones you mentioned would be decent bikes. Thousands of riders, myself included, cut our teeth on similar machines. However, they are pretty dang racy. They have narrow powerbands that can be difficult for a new rider to control. I promise you are going to flip it out from under you at some point during the learning process. Plus, they are fairly tall which makes it hard to feel comfortable on for some riders. The Honda trail bikes are good machines. So are the Yamaha or Kawasaki versions - though I personally prefer the Honda products. I have a CRF150F for my 13-yr-old daughter and it is awesome - I probably ride it more than she does ;-). I also had a Honda 80 and Yamaha TT-R125 - both cool little bikes. Don't worry, you aren't going to break the suspension. Here's the deal - when it comes to first bikes, don't overdo it. We're all tempted to get our dream machine because they're shiny and awesome and our imaginations go crazy thinking about them. And that's the beauty of having the motorcycle bug, but the truth of the matter is that a bike that is easy to handle will build your confidence and skills much quicker. Even if you have to sell it and move up to the 2-strokes or something else in a few months or a year, that's OK. I bought a bike that was too much for me when I was a new rider because it seemed cooler, but looking back it was a terrible choice and I will never be as good as I should have been because of the bad habits it taught me. Talk to your parents, find out what you and they are comfortable with and how much you have to spend. Then compare that to what bikes are available in your area. Let me know what you decide on. Dirt bikes are the best thing in the world so I'm excited for you! - jc
CaptainPatchXIV-Productions Not a bad choice. I'd recommend the big-wheel version if possible. It will last you longer and the larger front tire rolls across bumps better. - jc
definitely getting the big wheel version problem is i'm broke and cant find a ttr 125 big wheel on craigslist in my area that's why i thought of the rm85 because 4 of my friends very close to my size have recently started on one and loved it. i also sat on a ttr-125 l? or the big wheel version and it was about perfect the seat was a little short but not bad.
CaptainPatchXIV-Productions Two-strokes are cheap to own and maintain. Big bonus if you're broke... It's a huge reason why I ride a YZ125!! Do what you do, buddy. Just keep your head on straight, take it slow and wear some decent gear. You'll be ripping in no time. - jc
Hey Jake, safety wire is not required, but your grips will come off sooner without them, for sure. A spinning grip is a quick way to ruin a ride or possibly get injured. I would wire them up. There's really no reason not to. - jc
Okay so did what you said the clutch sided grip went on with ease but then went to do the throttle side like you said spin it away from the bike for resistance then I heard a big crack now my throttle is stuck ????
Logan Sheftal yeah man a little bit of gas in the grip softens it for putting it on and it never comes loose!! I don't know about the spray paint thing. Seems pretty ghetto.
+Logan Lott Some grips are vulcanized to the bar and throttle tube from the factory(Kawasaki, Suzuki come to mind). So they will never slip, but I've never liked a pair of stock grips! Another down side of vulcanization is when you want to put new grips on,t you have to buy a new throttle tube and spend a little bit with a razor cutting the grips off the clutch side of the bar.-RH
Good video. Does anyone know why Husqvarna decided to ruin the standard handle grip? Better yet how to remove in under 4 hours due to their space age adhesive boding grip technology.
for atv grips (no traits throttle obviously) is the safety wire necessary? i don't want my grips to twist but is the wire necessary for that or just a added layer of safety?
If you are wanting to use spray paint but concerned about the durability I would recommend also using safety wire. Grip glue will can last longer but it's easier to install the grips with spray paint. www.motorcycle-superstore.com/30310/i/bikemaster-safety-wire-0-032
BONGA BOMB Any will do. I have used satin, gloss and matte finishes without any noticeable difference. Just be prepared to feel them out. I'm not saying that there isn't one that's best, I just don't know what it is. Remember, paint makes installation easier, but it doesn't hold as well as glue. I highly recommend using grip wire as a backup. - jc
Craftym Gaming The grip glue will eventually fail, which lets the rubber grip spin on the handlebar. The safety wire holds it tight to help prevent the grip from rotating and potentially slipping off the end of the bar. - jc
I just used enough power and got the left grip off just by that. The old glue was still there just put the new grip a bit into place. Then i took a plastic hammer and hammered it all the way to the end. The right one i just cut in half. Ripped off. Then took the new one. Sprayed some hair spray inside it. Put it a little into place. Hammered it in. You people make grip changes seem like rocket sciense.
I changed the grip that goes in to the throttle and i turned it clockwise and the throttle broke now as i turn on the bike it starts to give throttle by itself. How can i fix it ?
IJAmBaZz If the throttle is stuck open and all you did was change the grips, there's a chance that nothing is actually broken. I've had the same thing happen to me on several occasions and it's always because I pushed the grip or throttle tube too far toward the center of the bar. 1. If the throttle tube has the end intact (no crash damage, no handguards), it might have been pushed tight against the end of the handlebar as you crammed the grip in place. Loosen the throttle housing bolts and pull it back a little, make sure it's close but not rubbing. 2. If the end of the tube is missing, the rubber grip might be rubbing on the end of the bar. Same solution as #1. 3. If the end of the grip is removed (for handguards) it is possible to push the thumb flange up against the throttle housing assembly. Remove the grip and reinstall. 4. Dirt or grit could have been pushed into the throttle tube or jostled loose. Remove the throttle tube, clean with brake cleaner, reinstall with dry lubricant/graphite/etc. 5. The return cable could be damaged or broken. Inspect it closely where it attaches at the throttle and carb. Replace. 6. Throttle cam/housing is damaged. Inspect and replace. Hope that gives you a little direction. With any luck it's one of the first four examples. - jc
Motorcycle Superstore thanks alot. I turned the throttle counter clockwise with full force and now i can ride.but now as i look down at the throttle housing it has a hole in it and i think there is a part that keeps the throttle in place so it cant go clockwise anymore from that specific spot so i think i just have to replace the throttle
quick tip to remove grips, use your air compressor to force air underneath the grip and start to twist/pull the grip off. works like a charm and very quick and effortless
i do the same when i put them on too
I do the same thing wondering why this “professional” doesn’t know that basic trick.

I like how he is straight forward lol makes for a good learning show!!
good idea by putting the hole in the end made it go on so much easier, very helpful!
good gob avoiding the nightmare that is the throttle grip.
they always do
I only came here for that fml
@@3DrAgSwAg in know whats the point? what about the throttle side.. i mean i figured out the left myself.
I always use hairspray to put my grips on, lubes it up to go on but drys rock solid like glue.
razor blade > screwdriver... don't waste your time trying to save the old ones, just slice them and peel them off 😉
toadamine yeah the grips i cut off today were practically melted to the the bars
God bless, Jesus loves you guys
hi there i found that hair spray work extremely well aswell. great lubrication and dries very strong. Motorcycle Superstore
ODI Locking grips are my go to.
my girl friend doesnt stop at the first knuckle either....
grizznasty1 haha
thats....uhh......kina.....odd are you bi? the fuck?!
😂 dot dot dot dot😂😂
Neither did I 😭
God bless, Jesus loves you guys
We wanted to see you do the throttle grip ! everybody already knows how to do the one you showed
Trick I’ve used for years to make them stay on is oatey’s pvc pipe cement...it works wonders on these hand grips!
Thanks! I'm buying my second bike tomorrow and I want to buy blue waffle grips for it because it's a yamaha, and the current grips are grey or black. It'll match the rest of the bike.
Thanks for keeping it real in this tutorial. Tired of these wannabe factory tutorials
Nice video, very detailed and instructional!

I use a hair dryer to make the rubber softer and I have grip glue that lubes the grips.
Well done bro, best technique I've seen, hope I can remember lol
I never would have thought of spray paint. That is awesome grip glues always make it harder.

mine are coming lose with saftey wire time to replace them
I did this and put spray paint like u asked but I ripped my grip so I put glue and it keeps on getting stuck. Do u know why thx for ur time
What kind of spray paint did u use???? Can u use any kind of spray paint ???? Thx
Use clear coat instead of spray paint! I learned that from Lucas Oil mechanic Eric Gass!
+SlammedBeretta Some wise advise! That's what I've been using for years! - RH
Motorcycle Superstore why isn’t spray paint a good idea?
I was told by an old racer to use hairspray, works like a charm and sets fast....
You can use hairspray as glue too, it works well
Can you use any color of spray paint
Hairspray works great as a lube/glue for putting on grips in a pinch.
5:45 "This one goes balls deep......."
Can we use air filter cleaner
My handlebar has a metal Allen key end cap on it and it is very tight. Is there anyway to remove it without stripping it?
Nice job! Thanks Dude! Ride on!
Or instead of using couple items to put on the grips use hairspray
Hairspray works good too! -KB
Air compresor make all this very, very easy !
Transylvania Enduro yes exactly
Okay so did what you said the clutch sided grip went on with ease but then went to do the throttle side like you said spin it away from the bike for resistance then I heard a big crack now my throttle is stuck ????
Can I use tie wire instead of safety wire??
I use a air compressor and a flat head it will get air between the grip and it makes it easy
Very informative well laid out video I am a little concerned about how you like to stroke the handle and poke the hole though hahahhaha
what kind of grips did you use?
No body uses gas anymore? it shrinks the grips right onto the bar my dad's been doing it for decades.
Logan Sheftal yeah man a little bit of gas in the grip softens it for putting it on and it never comes loose!! I don't know about the spray paint thing. Seems pretty ghetto.
Thanks man! Ur comment helped alot! Slipped right on
Like gasoline?
the throttle grip is also thinner.
Well what do they use on stock grips at the factory? In my opinion they last longer and with safety wire it creases the grips
+Logan Lott Some grips are vulcanized to the bar and throttle tube from the factory(Kawasaki, Suzuki come to mind). So they will never slip, but I've never liked a pair of stock grips! Yo yo yo I done fucked up and bought dirt bike grips for my quad will I be fine or do I need to buy another set of grips
Are all grips the same size? (I’m a noob)
does it matter what type of paint it is
for atv grips (no traits throttle obviously) is the safety wire necessary? i don't want my grips to twist but is the wire necessary for that or just a added layer of safety?
808sand Blvke no. I ride an atc 250r hard and I don't use wires nor do the grips twist. I just use grip glue. You should be good with out the wire
Nate Melino okay thanks. i already used spray paint so we'll see how it holds.
how big is the lasting difference between the spray paint and the grip glue. I will use spray paint but I want it to last thx
If you are wanting to use spray paint but concerned about the durability I would recommend also using safety wire. Grip glue will can last longer but it's easier to install the grips with spray paint. www.motorcycle-superstore.com/30310/i/bikemaster-safety-wire-0-032
you can use an air compressor if you want to also
I don’t put a hole in the end of the grip because you can use that pressure to press the grip on easier
a death grip can in some cases cause arm pump
air compressor makes life ALOT easier!!break the glue loose peel it back enough to put the nozzle in and blow and pull!
Hey, is it required to use safety wire, or are you fine without them? thanks
+Jake Bauer you don't have to put the wire on but it will prevent your grips from turning without the wire the grip wil turn easyer
Excellent explanation 👍🏻👍🏻 braaap
Just use hair spray it works great it is slippery and drys on there
Compressed air gets the grips off right.
yes thats about all you need xD!!
Bikemancody I'm pretty much to get on
just normal spray paint? like blue or orange or something?
+Joseph Mascolino I prefer clear coat! No colored over spray! One can will last you a life time (if designated only for grips!). -RH
Is it mandatory to use a glue when putting on the grips? can you just use the safety wire?
yes u can. i never used glue in grips and done competition too. clean the bar from shit
use air preasure gun
to put the grips on.
Nice video also I like your paracord bracelet
Thanks, they're a fun little project. All kinds of cool things to do with paracord - jc
What spray paint do I use or can I use any
BONGA BOMB Any will do. I have used satin, gloss and matte finishes without any noticeable difference. Just be prepared to feel them out. Thanks mate made putting the grips on much easer and thanks for replying so fast.
BONGA BOMB No worries, now grip it and rip it! - jc
Excellent! Thank you
You could also put lock on grips on
+Dirtbikesforlife16 ODI lock on grips are so good!
5:43 on loop
Good job it works😉
Thanks it worked really good
what does the safety wire do?
Craftym Gaming The grip glue will eventually fail, which lets the rubber grip spin on the handlebar. The safety wire holds it tight to help prevent the grip from rotating and potentially slipping off the end of the bar. - jc
How would you remove grips that doesn't have bar ends and have a metal covering around the rubber?
***** You can either cut/peel them off or jam a screwdriver down from the flanged end and try to break loose the adhesives. - jc
Motorcycle Superstore ya I think the only way is to cut the grip's end and try this method in the video. Weird design
Stick it on my broomhandle?....GENIUS!!!
It seems every time I try the clear coat it blows out the end of the grip, any idea what I'm doing wrong?
+Ryan Su Did you try poking a small hole in the end of the grip before sliding it on?
4:49 yesterday i got breakcleaner in my eye... i can tell you that wasn't super pleasent
4:16 started "working it".
Great vid!
My favorite is the one that stops at the first knuckle.
I just used enough power and got the left grip off just by that. The old glue was still there just put the new grip a bit into place. Exacto knife boom off in like 8 seconds
how do I get the grips off if they're plastic?
IForgotHisName hammers work pretty good for smashing shit
hehe.
Listen to the whole video with your eyes closed
Excellent!
Very coolio man🍀💪

I've always had good luck with clear coat paint.
Ok, I can take off ten pairs in the amount of time it takes to watch this. Knife?
Or use hairspray oily and easy to put on then later sticky and won't come off
Hairspray is also a good choice!
Do you care if I use five safety wires?
+BarbVValters - Nope, just don't use six, that would simply be ridiculous. - jc
with pressure air its much easier
Why did you take the whole bark buster off you can just take the end off and slide it down
very good vid!
WD40 inside the grip, put it on and let it vulcanize over night.
beam me up scottie
Don’t do this. WD-40 will not dry out. Instead use something that evaporated easily like rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner.
Why spray paint? Use hairspray or silicone spray.
Thanks
Doesn't some people cut them off
Personally I just cut my grips off and put the new ones on with hairspray
thx so much
he looks like francis from deadpool
I was thinking "who does he look like?" i knew he looked familiar.
Lol thats the first thing i thought
My old grip melted to my handle bars i used brake cleaner
What?Paint? Why, so you can mess things up with overspray. Go down to the store and get some extra-hold aquanet hairspray and use that.
Just like putting on a rubber, but without the glue.
i like my grips to turn. Means my throttle works...
Best and easiest way to install grips is to use pressure air
