We love the Magic Tap. Works great for our family. My mother has arthritis so a large container is difficult to lift. With the juice being in the side door it's easy access for her. We learned to turn the tap to the side when not using to prevent accidental trigger spills. Also it's easy to clean.
About the Magic Tap, I think one thing that will minimize mess is that they probably expected you wouldn't remove it from the bottle until it's empty. I was pleased to see it retained very little liquid when it wasn't pumping, so that helps too. For the top, you could take a small clear container (I have the perfect one on my desk, a square box that held candy from Trader Joe's) and put it over it in the fridge. The spout sticks out far enough that it would support the container and protect the trigger.
I'm surprised that spinning makes it get colder so much quicker. It even worked in a bowl being spun by hand. I thought the can submerged in ice water would have done better.
They're selling that particular brand of beer super cheap in the UK at the moment 😂 😳 it's ok. You're supposed to get a slice of lime and poke it in the top 😋
That's not a problem because most of the water runs out, and the little left inside on the horizontal surface air-dries pretty quickly. I don't have that exact one, but used similar ones when our kids were young. I had forgotten about that and now I think I'll get one for my grandson.
Clean tap water should never mold like that. Might get some scale build up but that's not even an issue on something like that Rubber duckies get bad because bath water is full of soap and the oils, grime, and dead skin it washed off.

Before I forget, I've been seeing an ad for "Aero Garden" a tiny box to grow herbs and greens on your kitchen counter, and it claims you need no planting experience and don't even need to remember to feed or water your plants, AND that they grow faster than normal plants gorwn in the ground. It sounds outlandish to me lol wondering if you have a chance, maybe you'd like to check that out and see if their claims are accurate. I can't see anyone growing a plant even with an automated system, and not having to at least have some knowledge of plants. Nor do I see how a small indoor container with a white led light can grow plants faster than farmers who have perfected their craft over years and years of innovation, and it just sounded super fishy to me. I'm into gardening and took a plant biology class (botany technically but that was the literal name of the course lol) in college and learned a lot about plants on a genetic and cellular level and I still can't just perfectly grow plants with a kit or instructions that make it "easier", it takes a lot of work even with these "simple solutions" and I'm really suspicious of this Aero Garden taking advantage of people by telling them they can grow plants in their kitchen without even trying.
I believe i've seen this tested before. It's a white box with a overhang ontop that has a white led light ontop. The reason it grows faster is because of the constant light hitting the plant. The led is a artificial light, that has enough light to act as a knockoff sun. In traditional farming, plants don't always get enough sunlight. Plants needs sun to grow and farmers can't really control the sun, other than where they sow the seeds. With this, the sun will ALWAYS be above, and it'll get brighter/dim based on the plant you are growing. It also has a water container for automated watering so you don't even need to be there. All you gotta do, is prune the plant and refill the water supply. The plant will always grow straight bec the sun is always above, which will also strenghten the plant's stalks, which helps for a more healthy plant. All of this will increase growth. Farmers has this too. It's indoor greenhouses. They do basically the same thing.
For normal farmers, at night plants can't get sun to grow. With this, sun can be every hour, every day. That basically doubles growth speed as most of the time, the sun is usually only 6-10 hours.
Aero Garden works well because it is a small hydroponic garden. Hydroponics creates a great environment for plants to grow fast and large but small table top hydroponic systems are quite expensive. You might want to watch some RUclips videos on different hydroponic systems to see what they can do. Some farms have very large hydroponic and aquaponic systems. I used to grow Lettuce, tomatoes and bell peppers hydroponically at my old house and got great results. Aerogarden uses specific pods that work well with the system they designed but would be quite expensive compared to building your own system and using regular seeds.
You only need enough ice to stay in contact with as much of the top of the can as possible. It's a clever trick -- the rotation evenly distributes the cold across the can and doesn't give it time to adapt. Edit: by top, I mean the long end of the can as it lies in the device.

The chill-o-matic sounds like classic Ron Popeil. I miss his style. Anyway, the usual recommended serving temperature for a Coke is 36-37 degrees, so quite a bit colder than this gadget can apparently manage. The temp is important because it directly affects the carbonation which in turn affects how it feels in the mouth and how it tastes, as the cold gas bubbles hit your mouth and suddenly warm up, they release vapor and that carries the flavor to your nose. Warmer drinks don't turn into vapor as easily and also don't pop, so you get far less out of the drink experience. Yes. There is a lot of science behind this stuff and Coke has spent decades researching how to make it perfect. And I'm a soda nerd and know far too much about it.
The vapor thing makes so much sense! I love squirt and ginger ale because I feel I can smell the grapefruit and ginger on the first sip out of the fridge... now I know I really do 🤗💜

The problem with ice in any kind of carbonated beverage is that it starts to melt and waters down whatever that carbonated drink happens to be. In fact if you have enough ice melted and you haven’t moved the glass around you can actually see the separation between the water and the carbonated drink. It just makes that carbonated drink, in my personal tasting opinion, gross. If I’m going to drink a carbonated beverage and have ice in it I’m going to have to drink it quick.

About 30 years ago I had that kids drink spout thing, mine was a little rubber whale and there was a little fin flap on the bottom that the kids could lift up to stop the downward water flow (instead of pinching the one you have) then the water came up the blowhole to create a fountain . My son loved it! He is 35 now with children of his own, and still remembers it,. 😁 Also, I worked the assembly line at Ford motor company and after REALLY rough days, I just took my container of ice from my freezer, put a beer in it, and spun it with my hand for about 2 minutes and voila!! it was nice and cold, no machinery needed. I love your videos! The snarl you sometimes have on your face cracks me up! LOL You are my favorite and I'm your biggest fan! Keep up the great work and the wonderful content! 😁👍😁😘👍
Chill-o-matic looks cheaper in the long run vs all the salt, ice, and time of a 'hack'. Although if you are partying, the salt and ice is certainly better for crowds. 😁 This was a fun video. Anyone else have the Big Daddy flashback with the syphon/tap?! I am thinking the cleaned out Johnson & Johnson pump bottle wasn't a bad plan. 🤣🤣🤣 Happy Saturday James. 🙂🎉🎉
I don't know about cheaper, given that it uses batteries, and salt and ice are not very pricey commodities in most places. It does look like a pretty fun gag though, and could be useful if you don't have a lot of space for cans in your refrigerator.
@@nicknumber1512 It might be useful for beer but it doesn't look like a taller can would fit. Most people, if not all, don't care about their soft drink being diluted with melted ice cubes so I don't see the point.
@Mr. Webb Every beer in Europe. And when he was trying the ridiculous can opener in one of his past videos almost all the American beer cans were tall as well.
I really appreciate that you show things that work and do not work. I work in the wine industry . I have had to do wine tastings that I have warm white and sparkling wine. We will spin the bottles in ice and water to cool them. It works. It is not the best way to present the flavor profile of the wine, but if it has to be cold to present well, you do what needs be.
Just wanted add for the chill o matic, it works very well (even for large cans where you can't use the spinning thing), but it works better if you add a bit of ice (a piece or 2 or crushed ice) under the can. It helps hold it up so it's not wobbly and (from my experience) chills it better
2 mins in and I already love the production quality, stands out from your other videos just *that* much. amazing reviews as always, that never changes!
The best reason I can think of the chill o matic/ manual version working so well is because you're constantly shifting what liquid is at the point of contact to ice. I'd say the ice water would work even better if you use a pair of tongs or something to twist it around just to get that liquid moving within, just don't over shake it lol
Um...aren't you supposed to leave the Chiller Stick in the beer when you drink it? Why else would it have those holes at the top of stem? It wasn't really a fair test since beer that runs through the tube will be cooler than beer in the bottle. I feel like you missed the point of that product.
I think I would have used crushed ice in the Chill O Matic and the salt water bath. Both would chill very quickly. Magic Tap has a newer iteration that works better and is less touchy. Good reviews!
I think this channel is getting so popular, it should have a real schedule, like every Sunday 10am (with extra episodes Wed at 7pm) for example. I think the viewer numbers would really escalate if we could look forward to, and count on, and tune in each week. I feel likes it’s almost close to having a schedule (once a weekend?) but not quite. Am I alone?
It's a fair point. I've struggled with this in the past but I may be getting close as I'm now getting a little help behind the scenes. And your schedule (Weekend + Wednesday) is spot-on! It's a goal for 2021. I appreciate the input my friend.
As for the Chill-O-Matic, in Thailand and other places as well they have street food vendors selling fizzy drinks with machines with a drum of ice and the drum spins the frizzy bottles. You pick your beverage of choice and it is served ice/slushy cold. They also serve the fizzy drinks in a bag, depending on the vendor.
The Chill-O-Matic is identical to the "Chill Wizard" I owned back in the late 80's-early '90s. I think I got it from Sharper Image. The only difference was they put the ice in FIRST, and the can rested on top of the ice, which makes much more sense, to me than this. I now have a "Cooper Cooler" which works with cans, beer bottles, and even wine bottles.
Anytime I see anything ending in o-matic I automatically return to childhood and Mr. Ron Popeil. Gave my mom a Veg-o-matic for christmas one year. Frankly it was a POS.
I was actually looking at my notifications just now when this suddenly popped up and I swear at first i thought I saw "wiener drink gadgets" and I was like, "Huh???"
I'd like to see how cold the chillomatic can get with ice, salt, and some water. Probably the only gadget I've seen get a good review compared to other similar ones from elsewhere!
I've seen a review of the chill-o-matic before and it gave me an idea... We always have a bag of ice in the freezer for my grandma so I took a soda once and stuck it in the bag and manually turned it with my fingers for like 30 seconds and IT ACTUALLY WORKED! So don't waste money on one, just do it yourself lol
Devices like the Chill O Matic have been around for over 20 years.. I had one back in 1999, while in college. It was awesome then, and still looks awesome now.
chiller stick probably work better in a real freezer. most freezers are around 10-15'F while a chest or dedicated freezer will usually hit -20'F big difference. though I suspect it simply lacks sufficient thermal mass to make any real difference. you might be able to stiffen up the electric pump one to be less sensitive.
I honestly expected that pop to spray all over when you opened it. I had gotten the bottle tap thingy and you are correct it spills very easy. Tossed mine out.
Did the spinning shake the cans up at all? Idk if you tapped the top just in case but it looked like that would shake it up and make it fizz when opened, spinning it that fast. Also I wonder what spinning does to change the chilling factor? Transference of energy?
I stumbled across a tip for getting cans or bottles cold quickly; get a paper towel wet to a damp level, wrap the damp paper towel around the can/bottle and put in your freezer, wait 5 minutes or so and retrieve can/bottle. I sure the tip can also be accomplished with a tea towel or thin washcloth. The tip has worked pretty well for me. I'm sure at the 5 minute mark the can/bottle isn't quite as cold as leaving the can/bottle in the fridge overnight, but does seem to get it reasonably close.
With the 3rd tap, it looked like the end could be unscrewed? If so, that would solve the issue in that case. Magic tap looks like a good concept with mediocre execution (a simple mechanical lock would fix the 'accidental discharge' issue, and apparently has a hit or miss track record for reliability).
This spinning is an old school bar trick. There's been a couple times as a bar back we sat with a tub full of beer spinning it because the volume of customers was way more than we thought. So we had to push through and serve good cold beer.
You have to be one of the most underrated RUclips channels out there. Great content, great reviews and you need your own TV show man! Keep it up, hope to see loads more content in the future 🤘🏼❤️
The chillomatic is neat, but the best method I've found for quick-chilling cans or bottles is to soak a paper towel, wrap that around the can and stick it in the freezer for a couple minutes.
I saw a really neat lifehack where people wrap a room temperature beverage can or beer with a wet paper towel and throw it in a freezer for 5 mins. It really cools it down by a lot. I suggest you compare the cooling gadgets against that lifehack. A more eco friendly option would be to maybe use a thin cheese cloth instead of the paper towel
I had the Chill o Matic in the 1980s but then it was called the chilli Willi and had a cord and yes was very noisy but it worked like a charm. Loved that thing.
I think if you were really invested in the Tapi you could have hot glued a little spring behind the "trigger" to 1. Take up the slack so it's not as floppy and 2. Require more force to push back and activate.
The chill-o-matic is a knock off of a wine chiller in the wine stores available to use to chill your wine while you shop. It’s a large “well” filled with swirling/rotating very cold water & you put your bottle of wine in it & after a few minutes you have a chilled bottle of wine.
The spinning motion being colder more quickly makes sense. Basically when your spinning it the liquid inside is moving. It let's the warmer liquid touch the metal can which cools much faster than the soda does. Liquid cools pretty evenly. Which means the whole drink will be cold at the same time. But if u just have it set in a cold environment it will take longer. The spinning is the trick. The liquids moving around which means more of its directly cooled by the metal itself which is cooled by the ice your spinning on.
thing i like about the ice bath with salt is great if you wanna do a big batch of drinks instead of the chill o matic which is great if you just want a cold drink and need it right this second but the ice water bath works better if youre having a party and have sometime before your guests arrive
Magic tap was discontinued because of excessive returns. Seems people would not properly clean them (pumping hot water through them for 1 minute or more) so black sludge would build up inside it.
im pretty sure the reason the chiller stick is so lackluster is because of the fluid in the container in stale and not moving around. the liquid closest ot the edge on the glass will stay warm while just the tiny amount of liquid in contact with the stick will be cooled of. If you agitated the bottle by i.e holding it your hand and walking around i would assume it would chill the drink faster. It's a bit analogous to the chill-o-matic which agitates the liquid by spinning the can.
@Sans Handlebars iirc the liquid closest to the wall of the can will be dragged along as the can spins (since the friction can never really be 0 in this situation) and this precipitates throughout the can from the bond between molecules which then mixes the cold outer liquid throughout the entire can.
You have that big machine standing up against the wall behind you, try sticking a can in there for a few minutes. That thing would probably work for chilling beer also.
I used to keep a tub of really salty water in the freezer. So much salt that the ice stays somewhat slushy. Spin a can in that for about 45-60 seconds and the beverage will get down to near freezing. Your fingers will get cold, and you don't want to forget to wipe the salt water off the top... But it was the best way to enjoy "the rockies".
Me, when you were assembling the Chill-O-Matic: I hate it. I hate every aspect of it with all my being. Me, after you tried it that first time: OMG I need one

LOL
You are my favorite and I'm your biggest fan!
Happy Saturday James.
Maybe just put both the coke and ice into a glass 🤷♂️
Holy cow, I remember Magic Tap!
That was an early As Seen On TV commercial that I can remember watching.
Just got here. Anything with o-matic must be great
Someone should update the magic tap for 2021 😁 Great video as always!👍
I think this content is getting more famous, with useful content.
Keep up the spirit Bro......
Greetings from Indonesia.
I've seen a lot of these can coolers before but the others had motorized rollers, no suction cup required.
I’ve been a silent viewer since the start, but congrats on 500k subs! 🥳 You deserve way more!
This guys reviews used to bug me but here I am, subscribed and watching everything he publishes. Just seems like a nice flipping’ dude.
Personally, concerning the chiller stick, if I wanted to drink out of metal, I'd drink a can that would be the biggest thing for me.
With some ingenuity, I’m sure a stop for the trigger can be made. Except for the yellowed topper, I like the Magic Tap. 500,000!! Well deserved.
I will never buy Something like this. But i always watch the vids 😊 makes the day better
Congrats on 500k
500k, like ‘wow’
As for the Chill-O-Matic, in Thailand and other places as well they have street food vendors selling fizzy drinks with machines with a drum of ice and the drum spins the frizzy bottles. You pick your beverage of choice and it is served ice/slushy cold. They also serve the fizzy drinks in a bag, depending on the vendor.
I thought these were gonna be “drinking” gatchets... like those shotgunning tools!
Edit: I’m aware this makes me sound like an alcoholic
Lol!
@Smattless Your use of "pronunciation" when referring to someone's writing, as opposed to their speaking, makes you sound a bit drunk yourself.
...Why would you drink out of a shotgun...?
You sound like a weirdo.
The Chill-O-Magic definitely seems the most useful; the hacks you gave are a nice alternative. I had not heard of the salt water trick before today.😁
I was actually looking at my notifications just now when this suddenly popped up and I swear at first i thought I saw "wiener drink gadgets" and I was like, "Huh???"
I can only imagine how a video like that might look.
@@Freakinreviews LMAO
Not even a minute in and I had to hit that like button. Loved how you showed us all the products you're about to test out right off the bat! Awesome!
The one thing wrong is coke zero how could you. Otherwise as always great video
Yeah diabetes in a can
I'd like to see how cold the chillomatic can get with ice, salt, and some water.
Congratulations on 500k subs! You deserve it!
Why does he look like he’s constantly smelling something awful
The longer he talks the more he looks disgusted

I was looking for this comment
Overactive muscles. Botox would relax the muscles
Devices like the Chill O Matic have been around for over 20 years.. I had one back in 1999, while in college. It was awesome then, and still looks awesome now.
he looks like he smelt a gross fart the whole video
So much completely unnecessary stuff cluttering the kitchen. It’s fun to watch and I’m entertained so I’m really happy about this video. 😃
chiller stick probably work better in a real freezer. most freezers are around 10-15'F while a chest or dedicated freezer will usually hit -20'F big difference. though I suspect it simply lacks sufficient thermal mass to make any real difference.
you might be able to stiffen up the electric pump one to be less sensitive.
500k subs!!!
Congrats man!!!!
You deserve it, and more!
I work at Kohl's and I see those chiller sticks every. Frickin'. Holiday season. The irony is I have never seen one returned :P
I honestly expected that pop to spray all over when you opened it. I had gotten the bottle tap thingy and you are correct it spills very easy. Tossed mine out.
I have a "spinchill" and use it pretty regularly. It's portable and convenient. I like it quite a bit.
Did the spinning shake the cans up at all? Idk if you tapped the top just in case but it looked like that would shake it up and make it fizz when opened, spinning it that fast. Also I wonder what spinning does to change the chilling factor? Transference of energy?
I was so about to buy the Chill-O-Matic until he showed us those hacks!
Thank you! You just saved me a few bucks.
Congrats on 500k! I have been watching your channel grow for a long time. Great content and keep it up!
I personally think the Tapi would have fit on the second faucet you tried if pushing the back of it up
Your home made chill-o-matic hack worked great! I'll have to try that myself
The fact that you risked drinking room temp beer is why I love your videos😂
This spinning is an old school bar trick. There's been a couple times as a bar back we sat with a tub full of beer spinning it because the volume of customers was way more than we thought. So we had to push through and serve good cold beer.
To me the Chiller Stick is for the person that sometimes forgets their drink on occasion, extending it's time in a drinkable temp.
Suggestion: Freakin' Reviews 2. A channel where you do quick bite-size product follow-ups based on feedback/suggestions/comments on your main channel
Congratulations!!!! 500k is so cool! What an accomplishment! Well done, your reviews are great!
James I may not be old enough to drink beer but the chiller stick could work for when I drink soda lol, love the videos 👍
NGL i'd love that TAPI. Denver has really good tap water so the spout thing seems really fun to me lol
Congrats on 500k James!! Every one of them is deserved.
I've always used salt water and ice to cool things down fast. But restocking the fridge is easiest.
thing i like about the ice bath with salt is great if you wanna do a big batch of drinks instead of the chill o matic which is great if you just want a cold drink and need it right this second but the ice water bath works better if youre having a party and have sometime before your guests arrive
the sound quality is so good!!! video editing nice, good info......love your channel!!!!! ⚠️⚠️
For the tapi, make sure your faucet is filtered and also clean it cause mold can grow
You have that big machine standing up against the wall behind you, try sticking a can in there for a few minutes. That thing would probably work for chilling beer also.
I kind of love the new pan in when you are talkinng, nice touch.
Not surprised the can cooler worked, I been rolling beers by hand since I was too young to drink them!
Thanks for the great review James. I dont see these products very worthwhile. Cant wait to see what you review next.
Me, when you were assembling the Chill-O-Matic: I hate it. I hate every aspect of it with all my being.
Me, after you tried it that first time: OMG I need one
Thank you James for this wonderful distraction 🙏
