What an incredible song, such a classic and this a live vocal performance which shines to this day. Barry Ryan was such an amazing talent. The most wonderful memories watching this, RIP Barry reunited again with Paul.
His twin brother Paul wrote it. They in the early 60s had success as Paul & Barry Ryan with minor hits. There mother was Marion Ryan who had hits in the 1950s & the identical twins could swap round & you couldn't tell apart from a slight nagging doubt.
Fantastic to hear a LIVE version of a great song from this era where many were encouraged to mime. You here and see what you expected at a show if you paid to go and with this great performance it would have been money well spent.
Truly wonderful piece of songwriting. I was a teenager when the The Damned cover came out; that was okay but not really my thing (I'm male so I was quite ambivalent about it) but with the benefit of age I can really appreciate the original so much more - Barry Ryan's singing, Paul Ryan's incredible songwriting, and the production thereof. Also I suppose it helps just a little that it's my mum's favourite song.
This live video is perfect, with a nice pop background, Barry wore very smart clothes, this bright blue tee shirt really fitted him, and he wore it on the cover of the record " Love is Love " I'd bought !
I still love it sooo much today am listening to all the other Eloise songs too just magnificient feel completely drawn into the time then and into him wow AND he did not die at 44 watch the video on this site 2007 in France. Cornelia
Wow, sang live & backing orch possibly on tape but not from the record. It's such a great song it's worthy of being a Lennon McCartney but wrote by his brother Paul Ryan. Great hair too, I was jealous of that in 1969!
Funny? Hokey? It's a great single & the best ever made. An amazing song & stands the test of time. If Lennon McCartney wrote this you'd say different. Funny & hokey, means you no nothing about good music & a Millennial who are the most annoying, ignorant stupid generation ever as you've been brought up & live your life thru distorted & pervader of lies social media.
Brilliant live singing, shows he has a great voice. This was a really an epic, very rare a 5 minute plus pop song was released and a hit. Absolutely great, and the Damned version was crap! Cheers.
wooh... This man was VERY goodlooking!! Shame...I was too young then! LoL! Live!!! My God has he got a Fantastic voice Live as well !! Great! Thanks so much for uploading this! Super!
After checking my records, I realize the cover of " Love is Love " sold in France was chosen after this video, the background's the same, but Barry also wore that nice unstructured- necked tee-shirt on the cover of " Kitsch/ Give me a sign ", but the photo was in black and white then !
Fabulous, but......................He did it better when he was older, more passion, more fun, more meaningful, nothing forced, just so much better. ( It was somewhere in France, I googled it and came up with the best). Great Mr Barry Ryan!!
This video was shot in France, for sure, as just at the beginning, Roger Whittaker says : " Jolie chanson, numéro un en Angleterre " and it was probably shot between 1968 and 1969, I may have seen it but I didn't remember it. The man on the left was Claude François, a French singer who sang the French version of Eloise in 1969, but it wasn't so good a Barry's original. You may see Claude François sing Eloïse (we need a dieresis in French to pronounce it the same way)on his pages !
Excellent. Thanks for sharing this SunshineValentine.Great vocal for a live performance with the original backing track.Did he and Paul Ryan write this.5 stars.
That wasn't the original backing track but a recorded live tape by an orch somewhere. You can easily tell on the grandiose parts that patently sound live. Only Paul wrote it. Hope your still alive 13yrs on!.
One of my favourite 60's pop songs. Unfortunately enough, Barry and this song were far less successful here in Japan...His live singing performance is very enjoyable.
The French words are different, of course, but sticking to the main ideas of Paul's originals, with sky, stars, moon, hell and despair. But Claude François was a fan of American shows, and the first French singer to add a choregraphy with dancing girls behind him in most of his songs and shows. Either we like it, or we don't !!!
I've probably made a comment before...Sorry,but still... this is the Best Live version! And the persons who ever visited one concert, nomatter who it was, you'll hear this at least twice as clear than the CD's or records? This performance was great !! Thank you France for this excellent video and I love you! for the ones who don't know French! .. LOL ;-)
Still...one of my fave performances to watch from Barry! simply AWESOME!... Anyway... Thanks for ALL the years Barry and a VERY Happy Birthday on 24 October (2011)!!! Greets from Amsterdam.Lots of Love.XXX Bianca
Yes this was deffo a live performance. I was wondering why he kept tapping the mike, but then realised that back in those days of yore, there probably would not have been any foldback to him, so he probably thought his mike was not working. Maybe it's just me, but this all sounds a little bit tired. These were happy days for me, as I was a member of his backing group, Candy Choir - although on this backing track, it was the Majority... we replaced them. Never found out why.
@@misterx3560 I think he was tired as you could tell by the last bit, I had heard him perform this live in ( perhaps 1970 or even 1971 ) , his vocals were live, the backing track was pre recorded and on that occasion he blew everyone away, he sang it so incredibly well and did not sound tired at all. I was just a kid but this song and performance set up my life long love of great music and great singers.
Great ( stuff ) Barry Ryan , Eloise , real '60 's music Gav Walsh Cohuna , Victoria , Australia ( a real Bush, woods , ) in th he Bush town on our Murray River , Gunbower Island . The largest Inland Is . In the world w/ free kangaroos & , Emu's & the biggest fresh water fish 100 lb s + the Murray Cod . Yes I'm an old man 65 yrs old . I love most of the '50's , 60's music . But also ' Zeppilen & Sabbath , along Marty Robbins , Johnny Horton etc . For any music lovers I'm here on Facebook to text talk !
To me, " Comme d'habitude " was the best song by Claude François, it should have been translated by " As usual " in English, as it sang the routine of everyday life and everyday love, things done by habit,(comme d'habitude), morning 'til dawn, but it became " My Way " by Frank Sinatra, a man summing up his lifetime. But the original French lyrics are more poetical, with tenderness in those routine words, and his voice more emotionally charged ! Nice song to look at for those who don'tknow it !
;) :p gerry
The jerky video isn't the fault of the camera crew, it's the way the video was compressed, it's skipped frames and gives a jerkyness to it. Many old recordings are copied into pcs from video tape, then put into mp4 or another codec and it's then uploaded onto RUclips who further alter the file, end result can be pretty bad when the starting file isn't that great to begin with. Film is made up of lines, digital uses pixels
The first time I heard this song as at Fort Lewis , Wash. in Nov.1968 as I was going into Uncle Sam's army. This song will forever remind me of that.
Great live performance - no lip-syncing here!! Oh he's got his favourite blue shirt on again too!
What an incredible song, such a classic and this a live vocal performance which shines to this day. Barry Ryan was such an amazing talent. The most wonderful memories watching this, RIP Barry reunited again with Paul.
Wow! He looks so young and cute here! Actually he kooked like a prince, and singing amazingly!
What a fantastic voice he has, i could never decide which version i like better, but this has confirmed it for me, the original all the way!!!
Great overwhelming live performance...think about:he was just 20 !!!! These both guys who produced the best song ever were TWENTY!!!!!!
What an impossibly beautiful young man Barry Ryan was. Mind you, so too was I when I was his age!
He was so inspired after attending a live concert of Mac Arthurs Park went home and composed this piece of music and you've got to love it!
His twin brother Paul wrote it. They in the early 60s had success as Paul & Barry Ryan with minor hits. There mother was Marion Ryan who had hits in the 1950s & the identical twins could swap round & you couldn't tell apart from a slight nagging doubt.

I still own the 45 of Eloise....what a wonderful song!

Takes me back to my youth
I can't believe this is the only live performance recorded those days.
Yes, I also would like to hear more Barry Ryan live performance of this song from those years!
this was my husbands and my favourite track back in 68,
there are some more in RUclips
@@gabischuetz851 yes, but in those others he's always playbacking. This is the only one I've seen from that period where he sings live 😉
