      I knew very little about Bratislava before this visit, it was modern and appeared prosperous, with a delightful old town center, the ice-creams were good too, I needed one or two to cool down in the warm sunshine.

    Lovely video. I know the driver personally and he is a great guy, always willing to help if somebody wants to take a picture, he also know a lot of stuff. Thank you for the video. Brings back memories (although it is not that old). Maybe one day I will be lucky enough to return and work for the public transit authority (once I pay my mortgage) and can "afford" to have a "low paying job", compared to my current one. Maybe in 4 years. I would hope so.

      Hello, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. The driver was a nice guy, he looked as though he was really enjoying driving the old tram. Deciding whether to do the job you love or the one that pays the most is a hard decision, I was lucky that my chosen job also paid enough to give me a have reasonable living, neither rich nor poor, somewhere in between, although the recent pandemic caused me a few problems when my customers stopped spending money. I hope you do end up doing what you enjoy, because you are at work a long time and it's much better if you enjoy what you are doing. Good luck. Tim.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 Certainly, you are right. As I work in the healthcare "sector", I actually made good money during the pandemic, as there was a lot of overtime that I served. I still wish no pandemic would be, but I must say I have been extremely lucky (when it comes to my job). I am also very lucky to be in contact with some of my former coworkers from the public transit authority and I value our good relations. I really hope to return once I pay off my mortgage for the flat I am living in. My last payment is to be in 2026. Fingers crossed that it will be fine.

      @@erikziak1249 Health care workers did a wonderful job during the pandemic. Sadly the pandemic also cost a lot of people their jobs, my own company suffered badly and even now I might decide to close it, if work doesn't pick up, fortunately I put enough money away in the good times to carry me through the bad times. The day you pay your last mortgage payment will be a day to celebrate. I hope everything works out as you planned. Seasons Greetings. Tim.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 Although I was not "in the front lines", I caught Covid-19 at my job. It was before vaccinations were available. Lucky for me, I did not even notice that I cuaght the virus, in fact when I got my PCR Test results my first though was that it muse be a fluke or that they contaminated my sample. But then I took two quick tests and both confirmed that I had antibodies for the virus. The pandemic created a big hit for many industries. I hope your business will find work soon and that you have enough money set aside. I am hoping to pay off my mortgage sooner, I have some money already on side. Enjoy Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) and a happy new year, Tim!

      @@erikziak1249 Hi, you were lucky to get a mild version of the virus, most of my family are in nursing, either working in my brother's care home, at a hospice for very sick children or in the local hospital. My brother kept Covid out of his care home although he had to be very strict with his staff and visitors, the rest of the family caught Covid, sometimes several times, including my elderly mother. I avoided catching it until my first trip to Europe since the pandemic just a few months ago, when I believe I caught it on overcrowded trains returning from Switzerland to my home in England. Although for some members of the family Covid was like catching the flu, no one was seriously ill. I am an engineer making tooling for production lines and no one is investing in new products today, so the work that is starting to trickle in is mostly repairs, although I have taken the opportunity to work on a project with a friend, which if successful could make him a return on his investment and give me plenty of work. Financially, prudent saving in the past has left me in a good position, although high inflation rates are eating away at my savings. I celebrate a traditional Christmas with my family. Happy Christmas and I hope we can look forward to a prosperous New Year.

    That was entertaining and interesting. :)
    I'm wondering about those strange sets of points / turn-outs. The points seem to occur far sooner than they need to, leading to two sets of tracks which run side-by-side for some distance before the actual turn; with the left rail for the turn right beside the left rail for the no-turn and the same for the right rails. Is there a reason why the rails were laid like that in some areas? It seems inefficient and a waste of steel track.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 лет назад +1

      Those turn-outs puzzled me, at first I thought it was done so that the actual switch blades were moved away from areas where there were likely to be a lot of pedestrians crossing to reduce the risk of people getting their feet trapped when the switches change direction, then I saw this at 27:29. Hopefully someone will read this and give the correct answer.

    • @matuucz
      @matuucz 5 лет назад

      @@Timsvideochannel1 The point is that switch is locked when tram is moving over it, so next tram has to stop and wait for leaving of tram ahead. That applies also for trams going same direction (safety reasons). When switch is made this way it could help traffic flow. If there is a tram stop right in front of switch, tram needs to stop only once. Big advantage is using these switches where is traffic controlled by traffic lights - so on "green" more than one tram could go through because first tram is already behind the switch. Mostly where is normal switch only one tram could make it, second tram has to wait for switch unlocking and meanwhile traffic light turns red. It is efficient where many routes are operated.
      Great example from Prague: transphoto.ru/photo/379780/ and transphoto.ru/photo/379336/ (7 routes, each operated every 8 min during rush hours)

    Lovely sound from the old motors. Nice classic Skoda 10:15. Looks like one of those mock vintage sightseeing buses 10:45, probably based on a Transit van or something similar. That's an interesting church steeple 12:57.
    Was the tour guide the same one as on the tour of Berne? He sounds familiar.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  6 лет назад

      Hi Andrei, there were examples of trams from both Skoda and Tatra, I'm not too sure about the sight seeing bus, many of the church steeples were very ornate and you were very observant to recognize our tour guide, his name is Andrew and he was also our guide in Bern.

    The exit from that underground car park at 23:40 looks a bit alarming. They come up from there, probably at some speed because they're taking a run at the ramp, straight into the path of oncoming trams.
