    Great idea; I want one for my shop. A couple of flow valves would slow down the clamp and release speed and a regulator would be nice to adjust the clamp pressure for more delicate parts. I like the suggestion of the foot operated valve too.
    Gotta say, I like where you are going with pneumatics in the shop.

    I added a pneumatic cylinder to my kreg pocket hole jig replacing a toggle clamp. Not only does it make the work go faster it much easier to reach the air control switch than the toggle clamp because you can place it where ever it is most convenient.

    That's got all kinds of potential. If you're in a situation where pinched fingers are a worry( children), you could add a 2nd switch distant from the first. Require both switches be pressed simultaneously. It occupies both the right and left hands. Safety switches might be aggravating, but it's an easy safety thing. You could also add a pinhole sized orifice or two to slow the action of the actuator. Heck, you could switch between fast and slow action. And orifices would also give options of gentle pressure clamp, or actuate an extra second or so, and get higher pressure clamping. DAng, that thing has possibilities.

  • @dscrive
    @dscrive 6 лет назад

    I could see the linear actuator being used to drive a wedge against a slide thus permitting something similar to a fast acting vise the wedge should increase the clamping force, possibly even enough to negate the potential slippage. I am also imagining a foot pedal actuator, that would increase the chances of getting a hand caught in it but, eh, live a little right?
    I'm just realizing my concept needs a little tweaking as it won't actually do anything but lock the vise in position, maybe if the wedge also pulls the vise tighter that would work as well, but might require some friction tape or something in order to bite tight enough to really grip a board in the vise

    If you put a flow control valve on there, you can slow down the action of closing. Leave the opening action uninhibited and it will open fast.
    That way at least you have a moment to pull your fingers away before full pressure is on, or quick release if you do get caught.
    And keep your psi as low as possible for the work at... hand.

  • @PetesShopMakes
    @PetesShopMakes 6 лет назад

    What’s the clamping pressure? Is it just whatever your pressure regulator is set at on your compressor which for that bostich pancake one like you have I think max recommended pressure is like 90 psi (I have the exact same one) but does it maintain that pressure throughout the time you have it clamped or how does that all work. They Seem powerfully strong enough though, I mean you were able to chisel without any slippage or loss of clamping pressure. Just curious what those actuators are rated at.

    • @izzyswan
      @izzyswan  6 лет назад +1

      once the clamp is closed there is no loss of pressure, it will maitian the pressure till i trough the switch well i would reset the part if i left it over night
