Really liked the message being said here about being that little voice in the back of someone’s head to tell them that their dream can come true just, “keep going”, “you can do it”. Something very important to teach the youth in this day and age to have hopes and dreams for their future. Really enjoyed this Ted talk 😄

In some senses, I think Eastern Cultures have a lot of those kind of messages and support. The problem is the balance, and the lack of strong human interaction and bonds. I don't know, just sharing some thoughts.

@@filipewnunes No I honestly agree, its very fundamental to express ourselves with one another. For lack of a better term I believe that by sharing some words of encouragement we can help those who we may not be able to see whats going on behind "closed doors" and the challenges they have faced to get where their at. Its very insightful to know that simple gestures and words can shape someones life drastically and fully understand your point of view aswell.

This is an inspiring and thought-provoking talk that highlights the power of our everyday interactions and experiences in shaping our sense of self and the world around us. Destin's emphasis on the importance of positive messages and a sense of belonging in fostering personal growth and transformation is both practical and empowering. Overall, a must-watch for anyone looking to create a more supportive and inclusive environment in their personal and professional lives.

maybe we rarely hear motivation messages in our life, but i believe we can do it on our own and find ways to keep moving forward every day.

I love this and can wholeheartedly recommend such supportive gestures based on my own experiences of giving and receiving /not receiving.
My concern lies with the communities that see a level of choice about the future as a fantasy, who see any opportunity for even basic education or a good reason to undergo it in near impossibly disruptive conditions. Those people have been sidelined for decades and the few opportunities presented in these areas are so few and so fragile.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I see too many, mostly minority, kids, teens and adults who are completely off the rails, jails are full of them, as are schoolrooms. They never had a chance because they've never had the support of a family, only of others like themselves. If only this video could reach and affect those who could change this. If only. If not, I fear things will NEVER change. We're watching a show called Your Honor, 2nd season. Reminds me of this. AWFUL.

This is gold. I think we're slowly walking toward a world with vast access of information, strong identities and achieving people on all layers of our society.
I think Artificial Intelligence can make a large impact in this field too.

Sorry works when mistakes are made, But not when trust is broken. So in life, make mistakes but never break a trust.Because forgiving is easy, but forgetting and trusting again is sometimes impossible.

This is why in Yugoslavia where I grew up and was literally communism which Americans are so against, education was free and anyone could get educated. We didnt have those particular issues. Everyone in my family has a PhD… America doesnt allow high level education access without high income… so there you go… enjoy your ‘democracy’.

You spent nearly 14 minutes identifying how through social experimentation you were able to conclude that messaging is an essential component in shaping positive identity and expanding life possibilities. I agree. However, in the last minute or so you undermined your thesis ever so slightly by discussing the paradox of your brother Reggie, who managed to develop a positive identity and forge an accomplished life without messages that were reinforcing or supportive.
Furthermore, why was the racial identity of your high school guidance counselor important to mention? Is the implication here that he was racist? I couldn't help but recall how my high school guidance counselor, who was Black, encouraged me to "forget about college and work at the floor plant (Armstrong) like your Dad" because his assessment was that I was "not college material." I never thought it was racially motivated, but it certainly could have been and that message helped derail my early adulthood in many ways. This summer, at the age of 57, I'll be applying for my doctorate in nursing practice after becoming a mental health nurse practitioner. I didn't start undergrad until my 30's because it took some time to overcome the gravity of my past.
