It's so weird: International soccer-related tournaments like Worldcup or European Cup are the only occasions were most germans feel comfortable being proud about being german, because we can wave the flag and wear german colours without being called a Nazi.
We are so afraid of that Nazi-thing (there are so much discussions in german media about why patriotism is just nationalism and therefore wrong...) that while Worldcup Germany is not "Deutschland" it's just called "Schland", to give it a unoffending touch...

It was just an observation on German behavior (esp. in comparison to other countries), with that background I think this video is much more interesting.
Personally I'm completely fine with waving the flag and singing the anthem once every four years and if I don't do it at all I would be ok too. I don't feel any need for that...
But it's fact that this uncomfortable feeling is deeply rooted in German minds since WW2. It's interesting psychologically, isn't it?

I still remember that day clearly and get goosebumps watching this. I was working in the restaurant that day and it was so full. The TV was on full volume and everytime there was a goal, the wole restaurant would start screaming und cheering. This was one of the days which showed me, no matter where you're from, where your family is from, we are one. I'm frickin' proud to be a german. (Sorry for the bad english, thought, I hope you still understand what i am talking about).

In case you don't know, there is a rivalry between Argentina and Brazil. No wonder they want to see Germany win. The German players were also keeping it fair by comforting the Brazilian players instead of laughing at them.

You know, I remember that game. I didn't watch it, a friend of mine didn't watch it either, and we were just utterly confused why there was so much cheering. Of course, we knew the game was taking place, but we were like "Germany scored a goal again?" Was kinda funny, looking back at it. ^^

haha, well as we won the finale and were champions, I think there was no one who wasn't out on street in the middle of the night and celebrating. I think, everyone was dancing on the street.
