I miss the original 1960's formulation for Dimetapp. Like so many cold and allergy products, Dimetapp has been reformulated. And I still like it.

I have all year round seasonal allergies and I take these when I need it, most nights I can't sleep because of itchy hives and being allergic to mold, dust, and pollen. I say about once a month sometimes two or I can live without them for a whole year but it's nice to have around just in case. otherwise I would be fired at my work. so I hope it doesn't ever get banned from shelves. they work! just don't use them for sleep!!! use them for conditions that you have! that's it.

Here in Germany I know diphenhydramine only as an outdated sedative drug that is also used against nausea.
What are the benefits that benadryl seems to be very popular in us?
Is it effective against allergic shock with serious B and C Problems?
I never thought about OTC drugs against serious allergic reactions. Because for that indication there are prescriptions for cortisone and dimetinden that can be bought without prescription.

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  Год назад +1

Benadryl is used for minor to moderate allergic reactions and then also used along with Epi in severe allergic reactions. Epi should still be the primary medication for anaphylaxis but Benadryl can definitely have some benefit.

      @@SixEcho thanx for the answer.
I'm asking because benadryl is in my country available without prescription.
But without prescription there is also dimetinden and for example ceterizindihydrochlorid available.
Both works fairly well at oral application.
And cetirizin has a low sedative side effect.
With benadryl as antihistamine I've got no experience.
For serve acute allergic reactions you can get a prescription for an EpiPen and a high dose oral cortisone.
In EMS it is, of course, another world...
Epi and iv fluids, cortisone, antihistamines...

@@manuelschmidt1081 Epi is front line for anaphylaxis here, as it should be. Then we follow up with Benadryl and steroids. Then Albuterol, Mag Sulfate and Pepcid as needed.

      Thanx again.
It is always interesting to learn something about other systems and protocols in other countries.
Here in Germany the protocols vary from state to state and also between the counties.
The standards itself is of course the same. For example the standard for MI from the professional society of cardiology.
But what what measure you are allowed to take varies.

Great video. DEA scaring the whole USA about opioids and then to the public saying it's in all drugs so to speak. Every nurse practitioner Dr etc in the medical field are against drowsy ! Even though drowsy helps the patient calm down from the worst sinus spasms and breathing is causing a fast heart then causing panic attacks. Benedryl is not harmful at all. All people aren't addicts . The DEA and Congress went to far. This put pain meds back a hundred years.
