If this game doesn't have one they should put in a replay mode after the level completion (I think Gran Turismo used to/possibly still does this) so you can see you flying around killing bad guys in real time from a cinematic camera angle. I love when games do that and it is always so satisfying to go "Wow that thing I did was way more bad ass than I thought" or "I dispatched these guys so quick".

It has been so awesome seeing the original dev’s early gameplay gifs on Twitter from 2018 blossom into this incredible title. Stoked to finally play Rollerdrome!
I was a bit surprised to find that this is on PC and Playstation. Also have to say that if Sony really want PS Plus Extra to even begin to stand on the same field as Game Pass this is exactly the kind of game they should be offering.

I knew when the trailer came out, this was an immediate buy. Already purchased it on my phone on the PS5. I'll be checking it out as soon as I'm home from work.
This game actually reminds me of a game called 'WET', which was actually a Grindhouse (and probably Max Payne) inspired action-game that didn't do so well. But the way the character moves, just flipping through the air in slow-motion while dual-wielding guns, as well as the destruction that comes with it, is VERY similar. - So this is more like "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater meets WET", except people just don't really know the latter. And honestly, it deserves some credit or at least a look, cause its concept was interesting and it deserved better.
I've been waiting for this game since the reveal i've wanted a successor to Jet Set Radio future and throw in some hints of sunset overdrive with an aesthetic of desert punk lol
Great review. The game reminds me of "Hyperblade" another Rollerball-inspired skater from the early '00's. It was advertised as a competitive team-based arena-style game with a single-player campaign but the hope was to inspire leagues of players to turn it into a multiplayer franchise. Sadly, it just never caught on.
After what both you and Jake have said about this, I’ll definitely have to pick this one up. On another note, looking at the main character’s helmet, I think it’d be awesome to see a Speed Racer game in this art style.
Man I have this weird thing with cel-shade graphics, I was going through horrible opioid withdrawals one time and I was playing a cel shade game called "Wasted", and since then whenever I see cel-shade graphics it invokes feelings of pain and despair. I couldn't bear to ever play one again honestly.

First time I’ve bought a game on launch day in some time, thanks for putting the spotlight on this one! Just FYI PS5 owners, this runs at a buttery smooth 120fps and even has some dual sense implementation. To top it off it’s currently on sale for PS Plus subscribers so I’d just jump on it right away, it’s a very special game.
You guys, I found it. The Best Paragraph. "Tony Hawk never had snipers shooting at him while he was trying to pull off that 900. You do here in Rollerdrome, and removing your ability to stack [tricks] gives your brain the headroom its needs to focus on incoming threats, or plan your next attack line, or do any other number of things this game is asking of you."
Game looks cool, but I feel like it was a missed opportunity skipping Xbox and switch. Never will understand why an indie game would want to limit their already smaller audience.
I would assume Sony, as well as Microsoft, give developers up front money to lock up some exclusivity terms. As much as they’d like the widest audience market, these deals give them some financial security, and allows them to narrow their focus to a few platforms in the short term. If the game gets recognition, and there is a demand for other platforms, they then have time and money to meet that demand.
SkillUp lost a bunch of credibility to me when he named one of the most boring games I've ever had the displeasure of attempting, Outer Wilds, his Game of the Year two years in a row. Rollerdome is fun for about 10 minutes then you're ready to move on.
Minor point but I'm not sure high contrast is really the right way to describe the art style; at least in term of values, which is at least what I mainly think of when the word contrast is used, it's actually the opposite of that. It's really the the outlines (and admittedly some contrast in terms of hues) doing the heavy lifting in terms of making things readable.
So this is actually available as a trial on ps4 and ps5. I didn't even have to play for that long and I'm in love. Got it right away. Equal parts Tony Hawk Pro Skater and My Friend Pedro. This game, it just bleeds style. When you hear gamers talk about how indie devs have a better understanding of what people mean when they say you can make games that aren't shoving a shop in your face, but earn your money by just being good. This is exactly the type of game they mean. Adrenaline fuelled, easy to pick up, hard to master, and just plain fun.
I've always dreamed of a bloodsports themed game like Running man but with singleplayer and Battle Royale gameplay and although this game is single player only I could easily see myself personally enjoying a BR game mode in Rollerdrome.
I'm sure this is a great game for its genre but if there were two genres I enjoy the least it would be skateboarding games and run and gun games. This is a combo of the two and no matter how cool it looks I could just never get into it.
Games art style is kinda cool yet also looks bland at same time. World is very open but has a cheap type feeling. Combat and movements looks like it will be fun for 10 minutes then boring forever after that. I am tired of short fun experiences that last a moment but are done after and never good again. This game is Steam Deck perfect, but I see no other reason to play it on anything else.
This game reminds me a lot of Jet Grind Radio back in the Sega Dreamcast days only because of the cel shade look and roller skating aspects of the game.
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon.
This game is just incredible, genuinely. Just a 900mb install and hours and hours of fun. Reminds me of Tony Hawks Pro Skater and Max Payne bullet time/SuperHot, super stylised and action packed. I love it!
A game like this doesn't come into existence too often. This one is so pure gamers' gaming game. The last time i had this much skill play fair difficulty with a game was when playing resogun and nex machina. I bought Rolledome twice that's how much I love it.
When someone who is not a Skateboarder talks about trick mechanics it is cringe, you have no clue dude. Dpad? Stick is too hard? LOL. I am sure this game is fun but the THPS references = NFT!
This game is disappointing for me. Not by the game itself, but by the fucking publisher, who is charging literally triple A prices for this game on my country. Private Division is a disgrace.
Meh not for me, in my view they should have ditched the whole skateboarding arena mode sandbox thing, as it would have been way more interesting if there was a campaign, in which u can progress into levels, shoot alien or demon enemies, firing rocket launchers and assault rifles at zombies or demons or AI robots. Add to that Doom like weapons that you can customize and upgrad to save the world from a ridiculous alien invasion or something, all while being on a damn skateboard that can be used as a weapons, maybe it can launch sharp shurikens at enemies to behead them, or maybe use a roller blade that can unleash fire miniature Missiles, just imagine ur roller blading and shooting at AI enemies that want to put u down. I am thinking Doom eternal, Tony Hawk 4 and Returnal doing a threesome to form a full story campaign, there was no need for this arena mode where ur in a limited space. No i would have preferred the same concept with levels that doesn't look like you can use a skateboard in, for example traversing a ruined city, OR a mall full of zombies, where u can cleverly use the environment to skate dodge and kill enemies. Levels needs to be a bit open as well so you could explore, this game should have dropped arena mode and went on to do a full open level design. Just imagine you have to traverse a semi-open map in a post apocalyptic hospital with your skateboard while holding dual smgs ! That would be so ridiculous yet so fun and interesting. I can't believe the developers didn't turn this concept into a rogue shooter adventure. Now that i will buy and play !

"pregnant with promise" is a new phrase to me. is that a skillup original? or just a well known phrase i've never heard of before?
Not the most common phrase ever, but pregnant with X has definitely been a thing for a long time.
That regional pricing is a big no for me. Higher than AAA games in my region.
WTF?!
Tony Hawk's Pro Shooter is looking pretty sick. Haven't bought a game at launch price in a long time but this one definitely deserves it. Let's go!
I've always dreamed of a bloodsports themed game like Running man but with singleplayer and Battle Royale gameplay and although this game is single player only I could easily see myself personally enjoying a BR game mode in Rollerdrome.
so its like sunset overdrive but with more freedom?
im in
I'm sure this is a great game for its genre but if there were two genres I enjoy the least it would be skateboarding games and run and gun games. This is a combo of the two and no matter how cool it looks I could just never get into it.
Since Monster Hunter and Neir, you still talk about games the way I feel about games and I will love you forever for it.
Looks awful, repulsive, forgettable, and bland
Stick to fifa
SkillUp: “It’s time to talk about DOOM…”
Me: “You had my curiosity… Now you have my attention.”
ngl, this looks lame asf...
it would be nice if there's a team play. like the ROLLERBALL we all have watched when we were kids
I would call this game Tony Hawk meets Speedball (remember that from the 90s?) meets The Running Man.
Looks like Jet Grind Radio ("Jet Set Radio" for our friends not playing on the Dreamcast) with guns.
Somebody pinch me.
Holy heck that move at 2:59 was slick enough to make me want the game alone
I’m really happy you keep mentioning SteamDeck performance in your reviews. Love all your reviews!
I thought you were reviewing Roller Champions and was boutta flip, but this looks actually splendid les go big big
I sold a car to the lead Q&A manager of private division who was the company that Quality assurance tested this. He told me this game was amazing.
When someone who is not a Skateboarder talks about trick mechanics it is cringe, you have no clue dude. Dpad? Stick is too hard? LOL. I am sure this game is fun but the THPS references = NFT!
Austin you might want to start putting little tags on the clips of games.
Hmm. I trust you the most when it comes to reviews… might have to pick this one up now.
