  • Can you rehydrate sourdough starter? Is it even worth it? After our vacation, I returned to a molded sourdough starter which made me pretty much cry! However, I had dehydrated some of my starter so I figured to give that a try to see if it'll come back to life. And it did! Rehydrating my old starter generated a strong working starter within a week compared to waiting a month to have a strong starter. Below is the summary of the simple steps I did to rehydrate the starter:
    1. Weigh out my dehydrated starter.
    2. Add equal parts warm water.
    3. After a few hours, submerge it in warm water.
    4. Add equal part flour to feed it. Consistency should be a thick pancake paste.
    5. Continue to feed and discard daily and in a week you should have a strong starter.
