Episode #24: 5 Things to Learn before Homesteading
If high schools are bringing back home economics you would have learned that in high school. If your mother would have paid attention to your grandmother she would have taught you to cook
Growing canning, preserving, and drying, would probably help as well when it comes to food
That was one thing....
Larger pigs will absolutely tear up your ground and make wallows. The kunes do some damage that is easily fixed.
😍
That breed will eat your hens!!
?? It’s a kune kune
did the hurricane Helene bring you rain?
It has!! We’re very grateful for it! More to come about it :)
interesting to learn how you are solving problems in a natural way!
Thank you! We’re trying, we saw results up in Michigan so hoping for the same down here
Looking good
Thank you!!
Pigs are cute, but they eat a lot.[4:10]
They do! Thankfully these like to graze a little more!
Incognito! Lol
😂😂
Nice
Thank you!
Where's oyster?
He’s still there, he’s a little turd now
❤❤❤❤süß
Because its how life is supposed to be
what is worse than a split system? 4 splits LOL
😂😂
Took 13 years for my Pecans to show up. Grew them from seed.
Good to know! We’re not sure how old this tree is. When in the year do you start to see them?
Pigs eat anything and everything, they would even eat human body's if fed them. That's why they are called pigs. Pigging out own everything and everyone.. stay safe and stay blessed.
Thank you! You as well!
Bolts? Where did you think it was going?
lol watch the whole video and you’ll see where it came from
I say the person who put up a cheep fence is the stupid one lol
If only Premier1 was cheap 😂
Rotational grazing with movable fencing is not stupid. This is done many farms. How many sheep do you own? You must be pretty experienced with sheep since you're offering your opinion.
What fence.
😂😂 right? After they went through not much was left!
That fence pretty expensive?
Premier1 isn’t cheap and we keep it hotter than hell. We’re honestly confused how they got out
I would like it better if it were a little longer with someone explaining what we are looking at and why it is called a Holler
A holler is a valley basically. And it’s walking down into the baby holler we have on our homestead.
😢❤😂7
No rain
Thankfully we did get a little, at least half an inch. Praying for more
😂❤😅
The minute the last piggy squealed coming out the pen I knew before you even said it "that's a boy he knows he's expendable" lol
😂😂 explains why he doesn’t eat as much. He’s so much smaller than the girls
Tornado
Bro is in florida
Who are you keeping it a secret from kids, wife,or followers?
We had thought about making it a reveal. But honestly, I think it would be obvious after seeing how the pen was built lol
Suggested names so far? Peaches Echo Lindsay Loham Buckle Bacon 🥓 What are some more name ideas?!
Hamlet, Master Hamwise the Hobbit, Fast Food, Bacon Bits...that's all I got
@@elfstone85 master ham wise 😂😂 if she weren’t a girl
You need a few more bowls! They love it!
Thanks for the idea. of using the leaves in the garden.
No problem!
Kyle says you suck
Just put a little towel in the bottom
Hope you all are doing well!
Thank you!! The same for y’all ❤️
Our potbelly pig does the same thing. Weird pigs
Right? But they’ll lay in the mud 🤦♀️
@@Steadfast_Homestead_Gear yeah. It doesn't make sense. My show pigs loved the misters when I was growing up.
Gotta love batteries and "overheat circuit protection" lol. The complete buffoonery of these battery operated items is that there is no cooling solution, whereas gas mowers have high tolerances for temperature. Might try something that sounds silly...put a gallon zip-loc of ice in the empty battery compartment on the right. It just might keep your circuitry cool enough to operate for longer periods of time. Edit: might add a folded towel at the bottom, to catch any condensation from getting through those holes onto anything running voltage underneath. Or just plug them with epoxy, etc.
That might work! We’ll have to look into giving it a go. Thank you!
Nice, video! What's the mower you're using? I can see if my papaw still rebuilds riding mowers. Maybe he may have one. He's located in Chattanooga. I'm not sure how far that is from you all.
@@DaydreamersBarn thank you! It’s a greenworks mower. It’s nice to get around the sheep pens and stuff but just wish it would stay on. Thank you for the recommendation! He’s a ways a way but we’ll keep him in mind.
I hear goats. Isn’t that free mowing or would they demolish your lawn? It is a lovely thick green lawn. Ask Santa for a second battery.
Close, sheep! When we were Michigan they couldn’t keep up with how quick the grass would grow, even moving them everyday. Thank you! It’s the result of not putting pesticides on and rotating animals across it for fertilizer. We’re hoping the same happens at our new homestead 😊
Should be Peaches! 🤍 Jess x
That’s a cute one too!!
Noooo I use my gas Honda riding mower and that thing does not need no “ battery” 🤓
Nice!! I think we’re sticking with gas in the future 😂
I can mow and edge my yards like 3 time on my greenworks 60v without having to charge it.
Not nearly this big though. It’s like 2800sq/ft
Nice! That’s still a decent yard! It wasn’t great for up in Michigan but down in Tennessee it’s working a little better lol
If you lived near me, I'd just give you a regular push mower. Briggs and Stratton gasoline. That's a tough job for what you've got, even if you could keep it going.
Thank you! That’s super sweet! It was a lot to maintain, even with sheep! The mower does seem to work a little better down in Tennessee.
Buy an extra battery that way you can charge it while mowing
This usually works😏
We may look into that now. At the time we would get like 15 minutes of work out of one lol
Snakes 😮
Yeah we got the trifecta - Copperheads, Cottonmouths, & Rattlesnakes (yaayyy! 😂)
Timber Rattlesnakes 😀
Is that the type here??
Cody is like cowbell, the people demand more
@@mattj4139 😂😂

That would be awesome to see!! I bet they’re gorgeous!
