BTW for some people that have it *Enabled and ready to use* about 50/50 are still forced into typing with sms for some reason
Hmmm I haven't had an issue, are you sure this isn't because the receiving person doesn't have RCS?
@@jspring86 Nope I tried this with two other family members no luck
EDIT: also when I try to creat a group with rcs enabled/chat features It *refuses* to let me use rcs groups and ONLY MMS group chats.🤦
@@davidlegkodukh6969 yeah, I'm not seeing any difference either, but literally don't know anyone running rcs....
I've got it connected. Thanks so much but what benefit is it. The rest of my family have iPhones so does this mean I can do what they do with their Imessage?
I’m not really concerned about read receipts. I just need messages to allow us to send videos without compressing them to 360p
Between Android and iPhone!!!! I hate this.
My lady has an iPhone. I send her links from my google drive and she sees them in 100% quality. If it's something we dont already have on a shared cloud folder etc.

*Video about RCS*
Comment section: "Dude where do I get that wallpaper from?"
F these carriers trying to wait just to make another app to do it, when all they have to do is flip a switch for everyone to have it regardless of what app they use or simply allow it on Android Messages. Simple!
I used to have RCS and Video calls on my s6 edge(tmobile) but then i got the s10+ from samsung and they took away my RCS and video calls
Carries are scum bags pure and simple, if they cant make money off something they will do the bare minimum to implement it
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv Yeah... That's how business works. You don't go to work for free... you're there to make money...
You can always start your own phone company, and give everything away for free. I'm sure you'd be a hit!
@owo グーチmoshi
No, people aren't jumping ship on SMS... There are almost 5000 to 1 SMS messages sent compared to ALL the other options out there combined (per a study done by next web.com). In fact, the numbers are 6 billion... SIX BILLION every single day, just in the US (per CTIA)... 2.7 trillion SMS messages a year... And you think it's going away, because you use WhatsApp or messenger? That's hilarious!
Regardless of what YOU think is better, it's still the most efficient and direct way to send a message... Only requiring only a service plan... And still by far the most used. Why would they give up numbers like that, only to placate to a small percentage of people using a different option?
If you want something better, spend the money to develope it, then put it out there for the world to enjoy... For free!! Let the other "gimme gimme" dolts enjoy it. 👍
@owo グーチmoshi Those "botched" apps only prove that SMS is still the king when it comes to texting... Carriers have never pushed apps... Only app developers and phone makers. And every Samsung phone I've ever had, gave me the option to use an app, or standard SMS...
No carrier is going to force people to leave their already successful messing system... And no app will ever be as successful as standard SMS.
Thank you Jeff for taking the time to show how to do this. Excellent instructions! These other videos on installing this should take a page out of your book.
I entered my phone number, its several minutes, still says setting up! I am doing this on Oneplus 3, H2O wireless Network.
sorry I want to ask, after successfully following all the steps. successful but the activation status is not immediately connected. just connecting. why is that error? or have to wait until it is connected or because of what?
Thank you for making the video! The other videos like xda didn't explain you have to pick the beta version of messages. Couldn't get it to work until I realized that.
Worked. But I realize most of my contacts have Apple so not sure it makes a big difference.
Still get read receipts. But yes you need others with RCS to get the full feature set.
@Matthew Mirza if it works with Android users not on RCS, it'll work with IOS users. Both will be using regular SMS. iMessage sends regular SMS messages to any receipt not on iMessage.
It says it verifying my number and it will let me know, any clue why?

tried following your instruction but if i click set RCS flag a message comes up saying Starting activity: com.google.android.apps.messaging/.ui.appsettings.rcs.overide.OverideFlagActivity and it doesnt take me there. any idea how to fix this?
Thanks so much for the video!
Does this just change the format of the message? It doesn't add or change any features of the messages app? My Galaxy S5 had a few awesome features built into their app that I really liked that I've been wanting to have on my other phones.
1) Delay text message where you could set a timer (1s, 3s, 5s, 10s) and when you press the send button, it would give you that amount of time to cancel the send if you want to change anything you typed (horrible auto-corrections)
2) Scheduled text message where you could set a date/time for a text message to be sent to someone (that way if you don't want to text the person now, but you're worried you'll forget to text later, your phone will still text later)
Are those two things available anywhere?
Thanks Jeff this is pretty dope and it actually works! Google should implement this so it automatically works for everyone who uses Google Messages. I installed it on my Pixel 3a and on my wife's Galaxy S10e and it works as advertised. 👍🏾👍🏾
Do you think 3rd party text apps will update/redesign their apps for RCS or is that not possible?
I think it integrates with Carrier Services from Google so I believe they would have to get access to that from Google to make it possible. I imagine when the carriers make their rollout next year they will have some dedicated app for it!
@@jspring86 Also what if it says chat features are enabled but no
*"status : Connected bar"*
Is that okay?
Sadly no not at the moment. This is using Google's own servers. Even the universal rollout over the carrier's servers won't help as Andriod needs to have an RCS API for third party apps to be able to support RCS to start with. I don't think Android has this yet.
Worked for me buddy!! There are a few videos on this topic but yours is more precise. Thank you!! Just subbed and liked!!
Worked! Video really helped, tried following steps on Twitter but couldn't get it to work. Thanks man!

Pardon me. I didn't understand something at the end. Do the other person need tu have RCS for me to be able to send messages thru data or wifi? Or can they receive the messages just not respond if they have not RCS active?
On my Pixel 2 xl, I didn't get the enrollment into RCS after the force stop and relaunch of the message app. In settings>chat features>status, it says connected. Suggestions?
Absolutely awesome, it works %100 on my Samsung Galaxy A20. The ability to send and receive 4K video alone is worth it, not to mention all the other features. Thank you for sharing this.
Sweet! Glad it was useful!
That one works if the people you talk to follow go through the same process. In that case why not just get those people to switch to a different messaging system since they'll likely have to get a new app anyways.
Set RCS flags doesn't work, it doesn't open that other tab. :(

One question. Can you delete Activity Launcher after the setup is done?
Yes, I've done that myself.

I did everything and it shows connected but it's not working. I'm on OnePlus 7 pro, I noticed when I go the rcs flag the top is set to sandbox but the otp pattern is not set, I click apply and it doesn't stick. Not sure if that is the issue.
I used to have RCS when I had Google Fi but now that I'm back in my country, after doing everything said in the video it says connected but doesn't work.
My question is what are we connecting to? Like who has access to all those messages?
It's the same as sending a normal text
@@clonecaptian not really. A text is going through the carrier. This is bypassing the carrier and connecting to a random server to work
No its just like a normal text
It can’t be just like a text. A text is limited to 160bytes per packet. This has to be routed through a server. If it was just like a text there would be no need for it

I'm Nigerian and it worked with my Etisalat number. Check your message settings. You'd see where your phone is supposed to show your number. Change the "unknown" written there to your number and it will work
All i want is aMessage on Android. How hard is that Google? 🤔
What
iMessage is all Apple Google has no control over that. Apple has to want to bring iMessage to android before that will ever happen
@@TechOut I think he means that he wants an iMessage equivalent for android devices (and since IOS calls it 'iMessage, ours would be called aMessage since it's Android)
@@kilarasx6222 that's basically what RCS enables
Apple won't do that, because they know is like the one reason people buy iPhones.
So I was able to follow all these steps and I got chat features to successfully connect in messages. But I'm not seeing any typing indicators or read receipts. Is there something else I need to do? I've done this numerous times, followed all the steps correctly, made sure my beta was up to date, and made sure that I got approved and connected for using chat features. What troubleshooting do I need to do to fix this?
For it to work as intended both parties, i.e. sender and receiver, need to use rcs enabled google message, right? If yes, how it would be any different than using Whatsapp, let's say, for an average person like me?
Cool.. but all I want is that wallpaper on your pixle 😅
I don't receive the SMS to verify my number.. what can I do?
You wait
No need for it, I didn't recive an SMS, still it works after force stopping and setting the OTP Pattern option on the Activity launcher. www.androidauthority.com/how-to-enable-rcs-messaging-1047089/
I don't get all this videos now I been having it since I got my s10 plus (Sprint) without downloading any other app just on the normal messages from samsung. I never had to do all this stuff on this video. And just now I downloaded the messages app and got a little message telling me to activate rcs with out getting all the other apps.
Could you go over the way you did with the pixel because my pixel does not necessarily have a clear data option. It says clear storage and I'm having issues. If I repeat all steps, should that possibly help?
Nice.. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Something very interesting:
I first saw the steps from the 9 to 5 google article, and followed those steps (the only difference is that I didn't turn off Wifi), and it worked on a Samsung A50 SMA505G using Mint Mobile (a US budget carrier, I believe they rent cell tower time from T-Mobile).
I then saw this video, and decided to clear the data from Android Messages and Carrier Services, and use turn off the Wifi before proceeding. This failed to cause Google to send a Messenger verification code, which in turn causes a failure to upgrade Messages to RCS (as far as I know).
I then recleared the data from Android Messages and Carrier Services, turned on Wifi, and redid the process. This caused the Messenger verification code text to be sent to my phone, which then allowed me to upgrade to RCS.
tl;dr: if the above doesn't work for you, then try staying on Wifi after rebooting the phone.
I cang get it to work on my huawei mate 20 X on at&t so did you leave wifi on and didn't clear data on carrier services and messages ?
@@LinuxAndroid86 I left wifi on but cleared the data of carrier services AND android messages before starting

ATT Note 10+
Installed everything with little to zero issues. Thanks for the walkthrough video!!
If you have a note 10 you have link sharing which sends full original quality, unlike RCS and iMessage that compress to two megs. Plus with link sharing you can paste the link absolutely anywhere.

I followed all the steps. When I get to the activity launcher I do not see "set RCS flags" under the google messages. Has there been a change?
Seems to mess with my standby battery life a bit..turned off for now
Oh so you also noticed?
Do those apps drain the battery quicker
What apps? The only third party app is Activity Manager. And no, it doesn't have any noticeable Battery drain.
@@jspring86 actually the message app drains battery quite fast, 33.9% overnight, and it's no 1 app in battery usage app, optimising battery is not working so unistalled for now.
I did all you did but my only issue is the upgrade doesn't pop up after the force stop but it does say connected so I'm not sure if it's working or not
If it says connected it should be working.
Didn't work for me. I followed to a T but once i used activity launcher and then force stopped messages, then restarted it, i didn't get the notification at the bottom about RCS. Just normal Google messages app.
Hell yes!
It's so sweet!
Idk why Google couldn't just preinstall the Allo app. And make it the only app.
Note 9. When I go to message-rcs flag setting and tap the sandbox.google then I tap the otp pattern -the apply blue tab goes away! I can never go forward....why?!?!😫

Do other people need to have RCS to take advantage of those features?
Read receipts no, but the "see when typing" yes

T-Mobile, stock Pie (OOS 9.0.5).
I do have 2 sims installed on my OP3. I’ve read this only works on 1 sim, but I don’t know for sure since the chat feature is under a general settings tab not specific to any sim, afaik.
I did all of those steps. Got my phone number registered. But. When I look at the settings a second time only one of the two flags are there. Chat systems are on. Does it matter?
I'm confused 🤔🤔 I'm with Sprint in the US and I have had this future for years on my phone. And never had todo all those steps. So, is this just something new for other users who didn't have it? Or is this something different than what I already have? 🤔🤔🤔
Umm my tmobile service does this as long as the other person has tmobile
So does Verizon and Sprint. I think the only benefit is sending better quality photos, but even imessage compresses them to 2 megs. Link sharing is the absolute best way to send photos of original quality.
