@@luvcoach Thank you! If you've still not given up it should work on an R6, it did on mine at least, just try to follow the instructions as close as you can.
Hi Kris, man, i want to thank you for this video, you are very smart guy! I have R6 II, have dual slot and "Q" and "SET" is sepparatly. How can i proced in this case? :) Thanks!
So people do not buy used. I was told by a big camera store they are not allowed to tell shutter counts either even with canon software. canon makes money on new camera not used.
It worked for me on an R6 body, showing almost 37000 shots. I used an old SDHC 8GB card in the second SD slot and I followed all the steps exactly. Thank you so much!
Thanks, Worked for EOS RP (firmware 1.6) . First it was unsuccessful because I did not rename the script files properly. file 1: extend.m file 2: script.req Use any SD or SDHC card and format with Camera or FAT32 with laptop. SDXC card are not supported
Notes on doing this on EOS R: After pressing "Q Set" button, no light flashed. I also pressed "M-Fn" and still no lights flashed. But still the file was written and I could see the count. Thanks! Also, as others noted it cannot be an SDXC card. SDHC worked for me.
On my R6, "TotalShoot" matches the total of captures I made with my camera since I bought it, whether using MS or ES, but "TotalShutter" seems to match the mechanical shutter actuations, because its value increments by one everytime I turn my camera on, and everytime I take a picture using MS, but it does not change when I take a picture using ES, so I guess we can pretty much subtract "TotalShutter" from "TotalShoot" to get the amount of electronic actuations. Also, video recording doesn't change the value of "TotalShoot"
Works on canon r5 with latest firmware, Japanversion. I also got: Power On Count: 1,362 Total Running Time: 264,816 (likely in minutes or seconds) and some error info
Does anyone know if this also works with the R6 Mark II? And will it give separate numbers for electronic shutter vs mechanical shutter or only a global number for all photos taken?
I think it should work, but make sure you try both SD card slots, usually the second one works. I think electronic shutter actuations aren't recorded for any camera really, since it's not a mechanical part that wears overtime.
@@kris.krustev On my R6, "TotalShoot" matches the total of captures I made with my camera since I bought it, whether using MS or ES, but "TotalShutter" seems to match the mechanical shutter actuations, because its value increments by one everytime I turn my camera on, and everytime I take a picture using MS, but it does not change when I take a picture using ES, so I guess we can pretty much subtract "TotalShutter" from "TotalShoot" to get the amount of electronic actuations. I'm not sure but I think the T7i can simply be checked using the Canon EOS DIGITAL info program, just make sure the camera is connected to the computer via USB and turned on.
Hey man, thanks for the tutorial, i used to got this to work on my canon RP, but now that i've upgraded to a r6m2 it does not, is there an update to this?
OK I am waving the white flag. I have tried everything I know and I work in IT and it still doesn't work on my Canon R7 camera? I followed the instructions explicitly several times. I downloaded a hex editor to make sure the SCRIPT was written to the card in the proper place by EOSCard etc. I put the card into the Card 2 slot and turn the camera on. Then I press the play button and then the Q/Set button and the light blinks once quickly. Take the card out and put it back into the computer and no XML file created? I am using an old 118mb SD card that I had here in the office? Would love to get this working. I downloaded the script file from the Github link and copied them to the root directory after doing a complete format of the SD card. The camera creates the Canon folders once I insert the card into the camera but does not create the XML?
Hello, what I would try is a different SD card eventually. However I wouldn't be surprised if it still doesn't work since R7 is one of the newest models, judging by the lack of success with R8s.
If it's not working on a R or RP it's because you aren't using the correct type of card. I tested on the late firmware on both cameras and had to change the card type
Can someone send me these files? I carefully chose an SDHC card, then carefully chose the Java format for the extend.m and plain text for the script.req, and even though the light blinks, it still does not write XML files on either of my cameras. Thank you.

I have followed your step in my EOS R (not the one you have EOS RP on the video), but it doesn't work even I have tried for a few times. Not sure the script works for this model.
Initially it did not work with my RP v1.6.0. After pressing the set button (or another button) the LED did not light up and no XML file was generated. @@kris.krustev yes, different but it might be error log and indication on what shutter count it happened. The final one is the las count but its higher than I expected, double. I don't know how to confirm that.

I'm not 100% sure but that sounds about right, the power on count is simply the amount of times the camera has been turned on and the total running time attribute seems to be in seconds at first glance, most logical to me.
NOTE: On some dual SD card slot cameras such as the R6, using the second SD card slot might be required.
