- Toshihito Kokubun, certainly among the best JKA Champions ever. A fearless fighter with impressive power and high level Todome Waza techniques. It's my pleasure to collect and share whatever I found about him in order to inspire a new generation of Karate practitioners.

His oi-komi attacks are so fluid as to blur the line between oi-zuki and gyakuzuki. Whole body flows through whichever weapon has the opening to make contact. Truly dynamic!

Great stuff. Any other recommended matches/fighters?
Kokubun should have been in the UFC. He would have done quite well (assuming he had a ground game)
Kokubun was a beast, man. I totally agree, I guess UFC back then wasn't interesting yet.
@@Isaac_Shamir I'm surprised we haven't seen any more JKA karateka since Machida entered the UFC.
@@Philmoscowitz Indeed, JKA Karate and Karate in general in much a Life style, that's isn't for everybody to live like a professional fighter. But Chinzo Machida, Lyoto's Elder brother has done a few MMA fights, nowadays He is the head coach of Weber Almeida, JKA (Bellator Fighter) and other Brazilians Karate fighters who want to become a MMA pro. Including a JKA japanese black belt, Onji Kunimasa.
By the way, The Machida Academy LA from Chinzo is also helping grapplers who want to learn Karate and the striking art for MMA. They're doing amazing work.
