This is a wonderful video. It shows the best way to practice. It also shows even an accomplished musician needs to practice a lot. This point is often overlooked and makes playing music seem like magic and unattainable to people who have a desire to learn. The use of a metronome in practicing is very important, but can be frustrating. I once had a mechanical metronome. It ended up in my aquarium. The fish were unhurt, but not pleased!
Thank you for your comment John! I'm really glad my message in this video is clear and helpful. Haha I'm glad the fish survived. Metronome practise gets easier with time. All the best! Thanks for watching.
Excellent video that shows the patient work of practicing small sections and phrases! It's the only way to achieve consistency and success. When I'm learning a new piece - especially one that first appears daunting to me - my teacher says "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!"
Thanks you si much for those beautifull and use full vidéo. I start playing accordions 8 months ago, your channel is my favorite... You're shinning. Keep going. Antoine from french Bretagne.
Hi Lucy, it's nice to see you back and to hear you play accordion again! I liked watching how you practice to learn a new piece of music. I enjoyed it. Thank you Lucy for posting the video!
A New Year's Resolution that I'm not going to break! WEED OUT BAD PRACTICING HABITS! Thank you Lucy for showing us your simple, focused techniques! I'm looking forward to more productive practice in less time. You're the best! P.S. Love your glasses! :).
I like the way you play and the way you teach. You could do a tutorial teaching how to play Retour des Hirondelles. It's hard to learn just by watching you play ...
Thanks a lot Claudio. I know a tutorial would be helpful but I'm not sure if I have the time right now. I'm going to focus on some easier tutorials for a while but I'll put Retour des Hirondelles on my request list for future.
I immediately feel a lot better. I sort of figured that you would be a "sight reader", but you're just like me. Start slow, bits at a time, then put it together, then bring up the tempo. I've always felt inadequate as a player because it can take me a month or so to get a tune together enough that I am at ease with it - e.g. a month to learn "Smash The Windows". I've never had a music teacher though, and only been playing PA for 4 yrs. Now, I have to order some of those books you have recommended. BTW, I also have a 96 bass, full musette Scandalli, albeit the earlier model, being the 'Polifonico X'. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L instrument (quite a rare bird in AU too - like yours).
He's a handful but he makes Winnie so happy haha. Happy New Year! You know, I've always looked at your name and heard in my head 'New Years Eve' haha thanks for watching.
Hi Lucy . I’m from Toronto Canada . Recently I started to learn how to play piano accordion . I have a question for you. Do you give lessons for accordion over Zoom? I like very much how you play and I think you have a great talent .
Welcome Gimli ! I like to pencil-in the bass chord letter on the top of the staff ( F..C..C..F ) so I don't have to keep transposing the bass clef. If the guitar chord is already shown, I don't have to do it.
Super Lucy, tak se má učit nová skladba:) A co nejde, drtit tak dlouho,až to jde a i přepínání registrů a skok jinam:) Přeji super Nový rok, ať se daří a vše jde:)
Good question. I had actually filmed the process then decided to move it during the editing process, for some reason. What I did is look up a professional recording of this polka on RUclips, listen to a few different versions until I find one I really like. Then I pull up a metronome and fiddle around until I have matched the tempo of the recording.
Very helpful. Suggest music be shown while practicing. Showing hands moving is good but seeing the music on the page would be better in my opinion. Thanks, Mitch
Good suggestion Mitch however as I'm not the original composer of this music I am being cautious not to breach any copyright laws. I encourage people to buy the sheet music and follow along as an option.
Hey Lucy :) Thanks for your videos ! Quick question on your accordion : you do store it on the bottom side of the case do you ? Lying on the rear like this is known to be unnecessary stress on the leather valves :) Don't know if you knew, just wanted to share :) Keep up the good work !
I didn’t know that. Thank you! Sometimes I will lift up the case so the accordion is standing upright but sometimes I have the habit of leaving it flat on the floor.
I was told by an accordion repairer to always store my baby Brandon upright. He then showed me a reed block that had been wrongly stored with curled up leathers. Needless to say I never stored it flat again! And thanks for your videos. I've just got the Musette Melodien book. Absolutely loving it.
@@antigaslighting7798 Actually, there is no ideal position for an accordion to be stored since the bass reeds always point the opposite direction to the treble, so what may be good for one half is not so good for the rest no matter what You do. The "least bad" position is how you play the instrument since it puts at least an even pressure on all the valves. This is a must for cassotto instruments, where some reeds are perpendicular to the rest. The bad thing about this position is that most instruments are usually not designed to stand that way on the ground very securely.
Thank you for the feedback. I’m so glad you learned something. This video is a bit different from my normal content but I’d love to do more if people are finding it useful. Btw did you share me on Reddit? I’m so grateful!
That was very helpful. I especially liked the part about just working thru the tough sections without going thru the whole thing!

Beautiful woman, great teacher Lucy!
For me... Most beautiful teacher of accordion. Thanks for your explanation, I will try to play this song. Ciao 😊
All the best!
It's really nice to listen to you.

I find this very helpful in learning this piece
I'm so glad to hear it!

Thank you so much for watching! Take care.
This is the video we talked about on your first livestream and think was how I discovered your channel
Aw that’s awesome :) I will have to do more videos like this!

Very nice
Thanks
Thank you Lucy. This is one of the best instructional videos I have seen for the accordion. G'Day`
Andy
Thanks a lot Andy! :D
Great video, Lucy! And I'm happy to see Winnie finally has a little brother. Happy New Year!

@@accordionlucy Kinda cool having a holiday named for me! ;-)
Great lesson! I need to remember to stop reinforcing my bad habits! :)
Glad it helped!
Very pleasant music! Is your Accordion the Scandalli LMMM model (34 Keys, 96 bass) as opposed to the LMMH model? Thx
Thanks Bill! Yes this is the LMMM 34 keys and 96 bass.

Ah yes. The perks of being a piano player... I’ve never had to worry about trying to understand the bass clef. It comes easily.

Good teacher!
Thank you Joseph. I appreciate your comment.
Wonderful! Lucy, how do you setup the metronome speed, to exactly match the song speed, how do you decide in general the speed, in relation to the 2/4

Your sight reading is better than mine, that’s for sure 👍
That's very nice of you but somehow I don't believe it...!

Scandalli is a famous brand. To play, to hear and to see.
They’re pretty good!
Feliz ano novo querida Lucy :)
Thank you lovely
I really challenged myself by learning button accordion even though I've played piano for 40 years. But I'm gonna stick with it.
I sometimes wish I played button accordion!
Hello Lucy!
I would like to ask you to teach me how to play the song, "oh lord my God"?😊
Hey Lucy :) Thanks for your videos !

WOW !!
A lotta work, but in the end it paid off - Beautiful! Somebody, "tie me kangaroo down, sport!" 😉 Have a marvellous 2021, Lucy the Lovely ❤️
Thank you Michael, you too. Thanks for being here.
did you play it on the piano first before you start play it on your accordion? 😅
No, I don't usually do that I go straight to accordion! You definitely could do it on piano first if that's easier for you.
I'm on day 3 of row row row your boat
You can do it!
This was really terrific. I see several things I need to change in my practice instead of playing though. Thank you so much.

Lucy Riddett Yes, I’m glad that was ok.
cerco metodo per fisarmonica per imparare e suonare musica hit reel irlandese
I am looking for accordion method to learn and play Irish hit reel music
I don't know any method books specific for Irish music sorry
My god. Blue eyes, black hair, british accent. I'm in love.
Haha it comes across that way sometimes, but I’m actually Australian :)
