You’re really comparing the build quality of a Mazda to a Kia? Mazda uses a lot better materials on their interiors and overall finishes are more premium and less plastic than Kia and Hyundai.

I'd also say better than Honda these days, and on par with Toyota for build quality. As for the interior only the newest Civic gives the Mazda 3 a run for the money, but in reality Honda only wins for making the cockpit seem roomier even if front legroom is the same and shoulder room only marginally better. I have a 2021 turbo hatch and while I do still love the interior, it is a bit claustrophobic compared to some other compact cars. I'm happy fall/winter is here so I can pull back the sunroof shade more often.

Guess it depends how hard you slam it! I’ve never heard of that breaking from doing that. Not sure why you do it several times, occasionally to check oil or fluids.
While I prefer the classier look of the steering wheel controls on my 2021 turbo hatch, I'm sure the new ones are more functional...and certainly easier to see what is what. I've gotten used to mine now and dont have to think...but it took about 2 months to reach that level of confidence.
Are Mazda 3s steering wheel heavy? I got used to my old Mazda 6 steering and don't want anything light. I've driven Hondas, Hyundais, VW and they are sooo light.
