Keep asking my wife if she wants to replace her 22 M3 hatch AWD. Nope, she loves it. With Blizzaks in the winter, not one issue for traction. I just keep banging my head when getting in and out of it though, just too low for my comfort of ingress and egress. Been flawless though, very solid and reliable.
Mazda took a chance with the styling of this Mazda3 Hatchback, so we've gotta respect them for that, and for their continued effort to make satisfying-to-drive cars with non-CVT transmissions (auto or manual). The style still looks smooth and unique. Thanks for including U.S. features and prices along with the Canadian Mazzda numbers.
The aesthetic of the exterior is subjective but more people than not agree that its a great design. Andrea wants more sharp edges, but I actually love the current design. The hatchback is the best looking among its competitors in my opinion.
I have a 2017 Mazda3 sport GT with the 6 speed automatic. For $2,700 I purchased the Premium Package, which added an amazing number of tech and creature comfort features. Yes, it does not have the “edge” of a GTI or a Focus ST - both of which I considered at the time - but It has a great balance of comfort, quality, refinement, handling, economy, and performance. In 2 weeks I’ll have had the vehicle 7 years and I still love it!
Hey from the UK 👋 Love your reviews!! I’ve had my Mazda3 2.0G……for 2.5 years now and still love it!! Smooth drive…..Smooth manual box and always get 51mpg…(42mpg US). The thing I notice with Mazda, they listen to customers. They change or update every 2 years the specs and details and not wait 4 to 5 years for one massive update. In the UK we don’t have any turbo engines or 2.5ltr for the Mazda3. I love the engine on my Mazda3 but sometimes I crave a kick up the ass 🙈
Just got this last night. The turbo carbon edition. Had never heard of it. I told the dealer I like hatchbacks and driving. He brought it to me to test drive. I said to myself as soon as I saw it, “f&ck’, I know I’m buying this tonight”. Drove it. I think I finally know what true love feels like. This car is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Mazda3 (sedan) owner here. It's a great car. And I kinda stumbled upon mine (leased it as a last-minute change to what I was originally going for, and have since bought out the lease). I got lucky. It drives beautifully, and purrs like a kitten (and has great power when I need it. And I have the naturally aspirated, non-turbo version!). Even in its naturally aspirated version, it's so much more powerful than all the competition. It's pretty amazing. And it has a lovely interior. The biggest negative for me is rear seat legroom. I pretty much have to forget about having passengers back there. Fortunately, I rarely do. Thanks for this video!
I heard the steering wheel feel is very heavy so it's a struggle to turn the steering wheel, is that true? Also are you tall? I'm short so wondering if my rear seat legroom would be better.
@@braetonwilson4296 I have no problem turning the steering wheel. It is a heavier feel than with other cars, but it should give you no problems. I am relatively tall (5’10”), so yes, you’ll have a bit more success having passengers in the back than I do.
Sounds about right! I loved driving our old 2007 Mazda3 hatch, and that model had more window square footage and a more upright hatch. Even then the backseat was just too tight with my kids in the car. Great for driving solo or with one other grown-up! Mazda makes surprisingly upscale vehicles that are fun to drive and I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for a teen or 20-something. Or empty-nesters!
Love it, love the new colour ceramic metallic with red interior. I bought myself from new a 2022 Mazda3 Sport GT AWD (Canada) it's still under unlimited km warranty.
I had a '16 hatchback 6-speed, and loved driving it. Alas, bad back, bad knees made it increasingly painful to get into and out of, but once in, this is a great platform. I don't miss the "edge," and smoothness indicates good design and construction. Like many other cars, they've gotten pretty expensive, which limits their appeal.

Honda will happily sell you a Civic Type R, but i just want a regular commuter car. gas mileage is more important to most people, than straight line speed.
We have a CX30 Turbo and love it. It is such a fun car to drive and so quiet yet so powerful. The gas bill isn't so great but its worth it haha! Sure the 3 needs a refresh but it's super popular!
I ❤ my 23 Mazda3 Hot Hatch 6 Spd MT! I’ve driven some fun cars before, but the 3 is nimble and smooth!! I’ve fallen in love with a 4 cylinder manual car again and I LOVE IT. I will always love the V8’s I drove, but the 3 is sporty fun and good on gas! 🙂A great daily commuter!

This does have better driving dynamics than the RS (auto:CVT) but not by much. I seriously considered this as well but just couldn’t get over the claustrophobic back seat, some dated tech and much less total cargo capacity. I’ve had the RS since June and love it, (my other car is a WRX), super stiff chassis, comfortable ride, quiet, responsive powertrain and handling- though it is not a Hot Hatch. The safety tech, ACC, headlights, seats and stereo are fantastic. 35 MPG and easy 500+ mile range are icing on the cake.
I got myself a AWD Mazda3 hatch in 2022, new. Still love it, the suspension is fantastic, every pothole is just a muted thud, it's very solid. The stereo is good. The economy is good and the engine is still torquey for a non turbo. G-vertoring control helps to minimize body roll significantly. It's got a lot of nice things going for it and Mazda are their own company again since 2015 (no ford)
The only reason I didn’t go for the Mazda 3 turbo over a Golf is the powerband tapers off because that turbo can’t push enough air up top. Also it has an archaic transmission compared to the dual clutch on the Golf, with a lot of half-baked tech. My mother has a CX30 turbo, and even though it ticks a lot of boxes at face value, those boxes don’t work nearly as well in practice.
I learned to drive a M on a 73 RX3. That was a great car which I loved driving. Not real fast off the line, but cruising along at illegal speeds, it was great! I've owned 8 Mazda's in my 50+ years of driving. The feature that stood out on all of them, was their "fun to drive" aspect - including the CX5, which I had the original 2.0L version. Way under powered, and unfortunately (fortunately?), traded it in on an RX350. I'm not young anymore and luxury seems to be more of a priority than sportiness...ahhh... to be 20 again.....
I went to the dealership to buy the manual premium sand color with black leather seats. I saw the Preferred Mica blue with Greige light colored seats and automatic, I fell in love with it and ended up buying it. I don't think mica blue is available with the manual!

Just the review I was waiting for. I am thinking one changing my 2011 Murano for a Mazda 3, sedan or hatch, and I can't think on alternatives. @@janoycresnova9156 I am not concern for the space since I can put a roof top if needed, and my height is 1.65m so it is not like i have the driver seat adjusted all the way to the back.
The Subaru touchscreen works fine, the HVAC has physical two zone temp buttons as well as front and rear defrost, you rarely have to touch anything else on the screen and you can easily fat finger the fan speed and direction when you need to.
Does the engine have cylinder deactivation? I've been seeing that people are having oil leak/gasket problems with the Mazda engines that have/had cylinder deactivation.
I want the manual Premium but worried it’ll be less fun in all the traffic I deal with. Might get the Sedan so I can get automatic with the Premium trim.
I have a manual Astina (Premium equivalent in Australia). I don't find the manual tedious in traffic... in fact, it can be quite fun, especially as the launch from traffic lights is typically a lot faster than for notionally faster cars with automatics or DCT's.
I'm gladly trading a little bit of space and visibility for a really clean and aesthetic design, like this Mazda 3 hatch. It's so refreshing to see someone trying something different in a market full of clones with no personality.
Great logic Zack, everything works perfectly, but I want to have comprimises 😂 A little contradictory no? The 3 as you point out is not a GTI. Thank goodness for that, it will be far more reliable than the VW. Before anyone gripes... I've owned several VW's and yes it was a hard habit to break😂

I may need a work vehicle for my sales job. I drive Subaru Ascent (much better than Toyota Highlander) but want something better on gas and a manual! I narrowed my choice to VW GTI and Mazda 3. I think the lower price, better styling and build quality make me think Mazda!
I agree with Zach: They polished the character right out of this car. I have a 2021 Mazda 3 Sport and it's great but unfortunately it's boring AF. Hence why I'm currently looking at a GTI. I need something way more engaging.
I don’t buy a hatchback for the style, I buy one because it’s practical for fitting a lot of stuff without having to buy an SUV or pickup. However, the rear door seems to get smaller and less useful with each iteration of the Mazda 3 hatchback. I miss the big door on my 2008 model (but not the rust problems 😝)

Thats an awfully big thing to ask when politicians are forcing car makers to design future cars that have no need for any type of transmission. I'm afraid soon the used market will be our only choice, or at least until gas shoots up to $10 gallon or ICE ownership is otherwise made impractical by government legislation.
Thank you for reviewing the non-turbo. I have wanted to get the Mazda 3 for years but I have read countless reviews about the poor paint quality on the car and how easy they chip. Also the rear torsion beam suspension is very jittery.
I own this thing and actually you wont even feel you have beams at the rear. The ride is very supple, nvh is superb, and most importantly the drive is just amazing.

I'm afraid soon the used market will be our only choice, or at least until gas shoots up to $10 gallon or ICE ownership is otherwise made impractical by government legislation.
People are NOT divided over this issue. Consumers simply do not want manual transmissions. Case closed.
They don’t sell.
Hey Zach. I don't see your Sunday question and answers show 😞
For whatever reason, it didn't upload and we lost the whole live show what a shame
Im 6'3" tall all day. Can i fit in and comfortably drive one of these hatchbacks?
😆 You guys are funny. Great vehicle for the young people. Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️
The rear design has kept me from wanting to change out of my '17 Mazda3 hatchback. The new GTI, I'm not loving the full digital dash...but I'm 57 🤔.
Thank you for reviewing the non-turbo. I have wanted to get the Mazda 3 for years but I have read countless reviews about the poor paint quality on the car and how easy they chip. Also the rear torsion beam suspension is very jittery.
Same thoughts. Please do let me know if you purchase one 😅🙏🏼
Torsion beam is a mistake Mazda needs to address
I own this thing and actually you wont even feel you have beams at the rear. The ride is very supple, nvh is superb, and most importantly the drive is just amazing.
@@daarioalonso3120 how’s the paint on yours? All the ones I see out in the wild the paint looks good.
@@erikhaynes5506 mine is a soul red crystal. I maintain it using a collinite wax and up to this date it still has that animalistic appeal to it
The GT has a 10.25” screen
You guys should find a mazdaspeed 6 and test drive it and make a video
I’m a car dummy. In future videos. can you please explain what the significance is of the tortion beam. Sorry if I spelled it wrong.
SkyActive Engine is underrated.
