I can only imagine what this would have been like if we got that amount of rain in the spring, with the ice jams and snowpack, would have made it even worse.
My heart goes out to those affected by this storm.

It took me forever to get home that Monday. We lost power at work, schools and homes as well. Everyone was trying to get home and it was lunch time too. I live near Waterville, it was so strange seeing Wal Mart closed. I had no power for 4 days, we where safe though so that's a plus. There are places near the Kennebec that may never open again. First shot is the Hathaway building in Waterville, that area is prone to flooding. It got really scary though how high the Kennebec got.

Most flooding was along the Kennebec and Androscoggin Rivers. It wasn’t that bad in MidCoast; it was the wind that was horrible here. What made these two rivers so bad is the runoff from the mountains where they got upwards of 6” of rain, add the snowpack on the ski mountains on top of that, it’s a recipe for disaster.
Horrible for this to happen right before Christmas.

Haha he lives in maine, about 65 miles away from where this footage was taken. This flooding was from a storm that happened Monday, he didn't receive much rain from Mondays storm. The prior week (last monday) maine experienced another storm that was less severe but still rained heavily. That's the storm the op referenced with inches of rainfall. Hope that helps
Fwiw I'm also in maine along the southern coast. Both storms rained heavily here. I haven't had a chance to check on our property in the mountains yet, hoping damage isn't too bad

Your secretary of state, said she ordered the extra water to preserve your disenfranchisement to vote with her against President Trump, so her and Biden can buy more ice cream during the primary!
