Whoever animated Huggy's vent chase did an excellent job. The stooped posture and fast-paced, small-steps with his hands also stepping along the wall is just like how a tall person would run through a vent like that, but the addition of his hurried stomping and sound design makes it really terrifying.

Yea.. I’m glad he doesn’t either.. The main thing that scares me is quick, loud, sudden sounds.. and spooky music.. that gradually gets more intense.. when being chased or just for no reason..
The scary thing about huggy wuggy (aside from, like, literally everything else) is the fact that it's not actually that fast at first. It has a very good build up... It takes some time, makes you learn some mechanics while learning about the place itself with texts and environmental story telling. You know shit is about to hit the fan... sometime. The chase scene was genuinely creepy! I wish the first chapter was free, but it's not expensive either. Played it through, very short but very good experience, so looking forward to later chapters. I hope later chapters will be longer.

I love how almost everyone gives huggy a high five, and the fact that the developers made the key appear in his hand lets me know that it was intentional. Just perfect design I love it. Can’t wait for chapter two
them saying the doll “smells just like real poppies” is especially creepy because poppies aren’t typically known for their sweet smell. they’re connected to deep sleep and death, if i remember correctly. love that
i really appreciate just how well Huggy was animated. all of his movements felt very real and creepy. He moved the way you would exspect somthing like that to move and still being uncanny. He didnt just materialize like most jump scares and he interacted with his environment but ducking around objects in a really smooth way. 10/10 monster
Particularly in the tight conveyor passages/vents. He seems somewhat procedurally animated, letting him lank his hands around as he moves. Add in some uncanny proportion, and that's a dang good recipe. Bonus points for him being established as a tall intimidating threat, but then freakin ferally running your shit down.
I think one of the best things about him is when you first see him animated he isn't fast running you down, he's quite slow. It adds to the terror of the monster.
Good horror isn't constant jumpscares and loud noises. Good horror is Huggy's uncanny sprint clamber through the vents. I haven't had my fight or flight response triggered like that in a very long time.
Its because they trick you into thinking you are safe because the vents are small and Huggy is super tall, at least you always see him as such that you forget that he is soft as fuck and thus very flexible and the moment Mark sees him in the vent through a bunch of bars he realises it too "Oh yea, something this big technically shouldn't fit into such a small space but it can absolutely fold in om itself" and that is the highest form of horror imo, when you go into a supposedly inaccessible safe area and it becomes no longer safe.

I've seen so much horror. This game is genuinely terrifying. Huggy's who style is incredible. AND THE VENT CHASE. The way Huggy moves is so good. I've become immune to jump scares, but Huggy's got me really bad.
They didn’t get me in a traditional way, but I’d argue the lasting feeling during the chases and repeated jumpscares was almost more impressive. The jump scares, though they didn’t get a physical flinch out of me even the first time, still left me with that little pump of adrenaline many times after most jump scares would have worn out and lost effect. Rather than just a momentary thrill it was more ambient dread to me. (That being said the last jumpscares to really really get me, more than once or twice, were when The Joy Of Creation first came out - and I’ve since desensitized myself to those too)
yeah uhm. Wow. this game got more screams out of me then the entirety of the fnaf series Markie has uploaded. This game has potential! not that I'll be playin it myself, I am perfectly content watching others
Coming back after chapter 3 came out, didn’t realize the log of 1006 was the “final log” and that makes it more eerie knowing that it was made during the hour of joy (officially knowing that it was)
I love how popular this game is getting but I Hope the devs don’t rush the second chapter because of it and actually take as much time and effort as the first one cuz I want it to be just as scary and good
This is how a horror game should be created. No jumpscares in every minute, logical parts and of course perfect timing of scaring. The vent scene was super terrifying and the devs made this game super good. 10/10!
I agree with you, but the design, graphics, the ideas and the amount of time passed for the story (aka horror game) to happen is also perfected which makes it a 20/10 for me honestly
@@akuhakare2201 Uh… Hard disagree? I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not so sorry if I’m missing it but random jumpscares just completely ruin any attempt to buildup tension in… Well, not just horror games, basically ANY horror media.
@@akuhakare2201 Most people when talking about jumpscares they usually mean those over-the-top, in your face, from nothing to bam in 0.01 second scares, but honestly? Moments when you look and see Huggy has vanished, his arm slither into the doorway, his face in the vent, or the red light alarm and toys dropping on you on the moving conveyor belt I would also consider jumpscares, at least mild ones. While they don’t give the biggest screams, it’s enough to make a player stop in their tracks or mess with their focus, building up tension and suspense for when the real scare comes around. This is a perfect setup for horror, a gradual build of fear, or maybe even a false sense of security (“they’re trying to scare me with this? Haha it’s nothing) just for the pinnacle to happen and sweep them off their feet.
It makes for a great way to draw a player’s attention to a spot that’s important later. Huggy’s hand is held up, so you look at his hand to high five it…but then later when he’s holding the key the player remembers that it couldn’t have been there the whole time bc they were JUST looking at that hand??? Intentional or not, its a brilliant way to start building tention immediately without having to do much more than play a sound and spawn a key
So weird question. Am I the only one who has been slowly getting more and more invested in the poppy playtime theories and the story line to the point they are obsessed and rewatching all the videos of as many channels as I can and rewatching all the videos from game theory ? 😂😂
This is what brought me here. So many of these games have undefined backgrounds/histories, leaving the player/viewer open to interpretation... I don't want interpretation, tell me EVERYTHING!
right!!! first of all , this game and especially huggy's movements are beautifully animated and it literally looks like real movement. also, huggy's design actually plays into the way he moves and the creep factor of it. think about it; when you hear that a horror villain has long and gangly limbs, you think of something bony and emaciated, long nails, etc etc. but huggy is a perversion of childish wonder, and because of that he has this sort of rubber-hose body, his arms slink along like furry snakes. it's a combination of terrifying things we've seen time and time again, but blended into something completely original and something that breathes new life into indie horror and horror creature designs. i cannot WAIT to see where this game goes, and i really hope we see huggy again:)
I haven’t been this creeped out and honestly terrified of a game in a while. The atmosphere, the Setting, the Concept, the Monster, everything was just so perfectly horrifying
Someone pointed out this could be a guy who is experiencing Opiate induced hallucinations thus the name "poppy" play time and the excessive use of poppy flowers. The Huggy thing that is after you might just be a security guard and the place you are at is just an abandoned toy factory. idk
The vents he chases you in are perfect as well. Just imagine yourself trapped running around those corners away from poppey while you have no idea what corner to turn next and where you should be going plus everything is metal and dark.
Thinking about how there's ten year olds watching this and it'll be a classic mark vid for them like FNAF was for so many of us. That's just how amazing I think this game is going to play out.
I watched Mark play FNAF when I was 13, and I'm 20 now. Such a simple thing at the time, but now it's a cherished memory. I hope younger folks have the same experience with this game.
Two things about Huggy: 1. His teeth. He has three rows, and they're pointing inward, like a shark. If you don't know, the reason sharks have that, is so that prey can't escape their mouths. 2. When Huggy is knocked off the bridge with the box, and bounces off of things, he leaves a spatter of blood behind. Which begs the question, why does he bleed? Edit: Gonna add timestamps I find for any moments y'all might use to fuel your theories, or that I referenced in the comment. 0:04 jump scare showing Huggy's teeth pretty clearly. 28:21 Huggy pretty clearly bleeding. 30:37 for "house" sequence, which honestly the whole thing could be theorized about.
another cool thing is that in the first section when huggy is standing still, is that you can see him breathing and you can see him watching you at certain parts of the game
This game was fascinating. The vent chase was terrifying, but enjoyable to watch, and Mark’s immediate fear when he watched the opening cutscene and realised this game was about dolls made me laugh
this game is actually terrifying. the jumpscares, the movement, the animation, the sound effects, the voices, the designs, everything is really scary. man the people who made this have so much talent. this game is gonna get real big, honestly i rate is a 10/10. huggy is gonna give me nightmares for 4 days.
I don’t mean too, honest, but I keep fucking watching these gameplays of Huggy at night. I keep looking back to make sure he doesn’t exist 😅. I have a phobia of dolls and creepy toys so I’m still scared shitless lol
at a guess, they seem to have used some sort of physics simulation for those, probably whatever they used to program the throwable boxes and pillows and such as well.
I gotta say, my mental state is well enough to enjoy horror games atm, and this game, is absolutely terrifying at the chase sence, and I gotta say, I can better understand why people enjoy horror games, and watching them, and this game definitely made me appreciate the horror genre a lot better.
12:22 MARK'S REACTION TO THE ARM SLIDING AWAY SENDS ME INTO THE STRATOSPHERE EVERY TIME 😭he looks like he's 2 seconds away from shistting an absolute unit of a brick
Needless to say, Huggy's animation is flawless, but can we talk about how godly it is in making Huggy believable? The way it lowers its head to fit through the arc, and how in the vent it's using its hands to help it go forwards, like, actually touching the walls and stuff, and then when it ragdolls after it falls, it actually hits stuff? IT'S SO FUCKING WELL DONE! They didn't just plop a monster model, Huggy really feels like part of the place
I realize that this game is quite horrifying as is but imagine how horrifying it'd be in VR. An edit made on May 18th 2022: Nevermind, I watched Seán's playthrough of the second chapter of the Poppy Playtime series yesterday and if that was made in VR a VR-version of this chapter would be essentially nothing in terms of "creep factor" (obviously by how much or how little that's actually true depends on just what you get scared by but i'd say that that's the case in most cases) against the second chapter's VR-version.
@@Mr_Astro-Vera I realize that it's been 18 hours since that comment was made as you writing your reply to it and me writing this reply to you but what does your comment have anything to do with anything?

What I love about this game is it’s aesthetic. It looks like a liminal space, or somewhere you feel like you’ve had some sort of trauma. This is a very amazing game and props to the developers for making Huggy look so unsettling.
@CTRLSHIFTESC It's kinda odd they call it traumacore (if you think about things like nightcore or cottagecore) if it's not an aesthetic. I'm not arguing whether it is or not, I'm just saying it's an odd suffix to add.
The screeching metallic noises when Huggy’s crawling through the vent is definitely the scariest part. Really makes you feel claustrophobic and like you have an urgency to escape, and proves how desperate he is to catch you. Whoever did the sound design did amazingly.
I particularly liked the way Huggy was introduced as this towering creature with a very slow, lumbering movement (the way he ducks through the door felt very evocative of Lady Dimitrescu), and when you get into the vent, for a moment you feel safe. Then all of a sudden, you see him scrambling rapidly through the vents and have that "Oh F***!" moment when you realize the chase is on. They did such a good job of spiking the adrenaline and keeping it amped.
@@Del80VR nah it was just to make "US" think that huggy is a slow kind of monster like Dimitrescu slow but menacing with it's towering height kind of deal, so naturally you would feel safe in the vents because "no way it could fit in the vents let alone move fast at all." but then it does so fuck.
That character design and animation is FUCKING *INCREDIBLE* I couldn’t stop rewatching that first scene, then Mark seeing him up close. That’s super fucking impressive
for some reason, what terrified me was how huggy ran, rather than the fact he was, well, chasing the player. it's just really well-done animation. now i can't sleep without my closet light on.
The animation blew me away too! We need more horror games like this that focus on realistic and creepy animation and movement! Can’t stand when games have stiff and unrealistic movement
Mark has played horror games for so long that he’s become almost impossible to truly scare, so congrats to poppy playtime for being able to actually scare mark multiple times.
Huggy’s vent chase was absolutely terrifying. The worst part was when Mark got out and went onto the bridge and Huggy broke through the door and flew at him
I love the analog horror aspect and how it's set in a 50s/60s era instead of the 80s/90s era most analog horror is in. Something about those old black and white commercials makes it creepier to me and they did phenomenal work creating the commercial. All the actors and the way it's put together really makes it seem like it did come from the past.
@@humanlydum_b281 bro u serious right now? The hour of joy was set in 1995 as of 10 years from 2005 and the chapter 1 literally says 10 years ago everyone thought they were missing or some shit
From what I've heard, they only animated his head and extremities and let the physics engine run everything else to give him that puppet-like toy appearance
I think the most potentially disturbing part is that Huggy leaves a blood spatter on the beam he hits his head on at the end. *why does he have blood?*
There is a theory that this companyy has killed their worled, operated at their braines to take the selfaware thing away, and turned them in toys. Poppy then, became selfaware again, and Controlles the huggy wuggy Prototype 1006, wich is the giant Monster we encounter. Creepy, isnt it?
This is honestly one of the best creature designs I've ever seen in a game like this. Truly horrifying, the way it smiles, the way it moves, the placement, its all very scary.
Idea: you go directly against the directions in the vents. That's because they aren't for you; theyve been left there by employees for Huggy, to misdirect him
What helps add to the scare factor is Huggy's approach. At first he's walking calmly confident he's about to kill you, you get away, he's sprinting dying to kill you.
Play where he's stalking you or chasing through the vents especially at a slower playback......even if Huggy is slow..... he's absolutely terrifying. props to the creators because, it's not just jump scares. There multiple layers of fear and small unsettling things applied. Wow. Can't wait for more
Hes actually very slow the whole time, like his end goal is not to kill you. Coincidently (probably not), he ends up leading you right to the flower where the note told you do go.

Fun fact: The game implies (quite heavily) that Huggy Wuggy is not only alive, but organic. He bleeds and everything. He even has a digestive tract. P. S. When the game says that Playtime Co. makes lifelike toys, it meant that literally.
I think it’s gonna be a fnaf-like situation where they make the toys out of people. That entire time Mark was on the conveyor belt with the doll parts being spewed on i was sure that at one point it would just dump a load of human body parts. I also hope that at some point you have to load human body parts into the playtime machine
God it's refreshing to see an indie horror game that has this much to it. One with actual interesting mechanics and a GOD DAMN TERRIFYING monster that feels fresh and genuinely unnerving. Edit: Unfortunately the creators are doing stupid NFTs so hopefully they decide not to do that.
@@lavetissene339 Huggy looks to actually be even _taller_ than just 10 feet. Somewhere from 14-16. But that's just eyeballing it. Notice how the protagonist's eye level (which for most humans is a bit over 5 feet) is much less than half as tall
I think it's the way he almost slithers through the vents. Perhaps the prototype, perhaps catnap, perhaps a monster we have yet to meet…. I’m sure others have come to this conclusion, but I am rewatching this series now and this has just occurred to me. If the toys murdered and ate every last employee in that facility… that letter has to be a trap. But also… if it was a trap written by a toy then… how did they send it?
I have a feeling it was Ollie. I think Ollie is a toy, either a standalone toy trying to lure the player back to the factory - or he could be the prototype, since the prototype is known to perfectly imitate voices and Ollie somehow knows where the player is at all times..... and guess who randomly shows up in places? The prototype.

I sat here wondering how people have the ungodly reaction time to process what is going on at a top speed sprint through the vents with the monster dogging their tail that closely, and then remembered I watch on two times speed and it really isn't that fast.
Just throwing this out there: with all of the “death isn’t permanent” and that employee talking about just getting older, it feels like Playtime Co might have been transferring human consciousness into toys to try and achieve immortality. Idk, that’s just what it made me think.
the fact that Mark didn't realize every time he said "BLOOD" there was a freaking broken toy there, and on Poppy's door there were toys hanging, and the employees aren't "missing", they are still in the factory... like, I'm not the only one thinking of this possibility am I?
If we take into account the recordings of the interview and the scientist, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that the employees/workers probably transferred themselves into toys (or robots)

i really appreciate just how well Huggy was animated. all of his movements felt very real and creepy.
From another comment huggy’s entire body except for the hands and legs are physics based, basically only the hands and legs are animated.
I think one of the best things about him is when you first see him animated he isn't fast running you down, he's quite slow. It adds to the terror of the monster.
The way he sprints and lunges on all fours at the end of the chase scene if you don't pull the crate down is horrifying
even his death is terrifying. The way he slams down those pipes just feels too real, you can feel where his bones are broken

Me neither. And I thought Zamination only majored in Minecraft animations. But clearly, they know what they're doing when it comes to horror as well.

I've seen so much horror. This game is genuinely terrifying. Huggy's who style is incredible. AND THE VENT CHASE. The way Huggy moves is so good. I've become immune to jump scares, but Huggy's got me really bad.
Ikr. This gives me nightmare vibes. I love it.
this video was the first one to successfully get me with a jump scare in a long time. So impressive!!
(That being said the last jumpscares to really really get me, more than once or twice, were when The Joy Of Creation first came out - and I’ve since desensitized myself to those too)
I haven't been scared in a horror game in a long while

This is how a horror game should be created. No jumpscares in every minute, logical parts and of course perfect timing of scaring. The vent scene was super terrifying and the devs made this game super good. 10/10!
I agree with you, but the design, graphics, the ideas and the amount of time passed for the story (aka horror game) to happen is also perfected which makes it a 20/10 for me honestly
There should at least be random jumpscares every once in a while

I love how, in every single Let's Play I've seen of this game, they high five Huggy in the first area. I wouldn't be able to resist either.

Intentional or not, its a brilliant way to start building tention immediately without having to do much more than play a sound and spawn a key

Huggy's design doesn't inherently scare me, It's the body movements that are super creepy.
right!!! first of all , this game and especially huggy's movements are beautifully animated and it literally looks like real movement. also, huggy's design actually plays into the way he moves and the creep factor of it. think about it; when you hear that a horror villain has long and gangly limbs, you think of something bony and emaciated, long nails, etc etc. but huggy is a perversion of childish wonder, and because of that he has this sort of rubber-hose body, his arms slink along like furry snakes. it's a combination of terrifying things we've seen time and time again, but blended into something completely original and something that breathes new life into indie horror and horror creature designs. i cannot WAIT to see where this game goes, and i really hope we see huggy again:)

This is honestly one of the best creature designs I've ever seen in a game like this. Truly horrifying, the way it smiles, the way it moves, the placement, its all very scary.
Anything that smiles that widely and happily is not to be trusted. It’s a proven fact.
And it's a simple design too!
I actually designed him 👀❤️
@@TaylorGessler you did an immaculate job 👌
@@TaylorGessler Yo what??? Kudos to you, very well done in deed.
Wow. Can't wait for more
Almost as if he is playing with his food...
Hes actually very slow the whole time, like his end goal is not to kill you. Coincidently (probably not), he ends up leading you right to the flower where the note told you do go.

@@pikathemimikyu6655 because he’s playing with us, he doesn’t need to survive on blood he just kills humans for fun
Both impressed and terrified at the way that Huggy moves. He's so limp and floppy that it's genuinely creepy to see him slinking around that smoothly
THIS. THIS IS WHY HE UNNERVES ME. IT'S NOT THE FACT HE'S CHASING YOU, IT'S HOW HE FUCKING MOVES.
Yeah the animation was REALLY well done

Fun fact: The game implies (quite heavily) that Huggy Wuggy is not only alive, but organic. He bleeds and everything. He even has a digestive tract.
P. S. When the game says that Playtime Co. makes lifelike toys, it meant that literally.
That is both terrifying and really cool
I think it’s gonna be a fnaf-like situation where they make the toys out of people. That entire time Mark was on the conveyor belt with the doll parts being spewed on i was sure that at one point it would just dump a load of human body parts. I also hope that at some point you have to load human body parts into the playtime machine
@@Dastankbeets9486 That is highly likely.

I really don't think that I've ever seen a 10 foot tall blue haired plush doll with teeth before.
That vent chase though...
**shudders**
I love it
I just like that they made Huggy bends down to get through doors instead of just making all the doors as high as him
@@kawaiidesu8864 Made it WAY creepier. Even if the motion itself is scripted.
@@lavetissene339 Huggy looks to actually be even _taller_ than just 10 feet. Somewhere from 14-16. But that's just eyeballing it. Notice how the protagonist's eye level (which for most humans is a bit over 5 feet) is much less than half as tall
Jump scares normally don't affect me, but I'm gonna be honest, Huggy's chase genuinely terrified me.
i wouldn't consider it a 'jump' scare if you're actively running away from it
@@disarisumbrus4492 I mean yeah but when it catches you that’s a jump scare
Whatever it would be categorized as, it was executed amazingly and caused me to throw my phone
I think it's the way he almost slithers through the vents. The way his his arms and legs bend at weird directions makes sense because of the toy design he's based off of, but also adds a huge spook level because when he's in motion ANY part of his limbs can turn and slink around.
He move like an actual living plush doll.
All of them fucking spooked me, And I’m just like you. I haven’t been properly spooked in ages but just the intro spooked the absolute *FUCK* out of me.

⚠️DO NOT READ IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS⚠️
That letter at the beginning saying “everyone thinks the staff disappeared 10 years ago, we’re still here, find the flower” is a lie. They aren’t still there. That letter was meant to lure the MC back, so they could finish what they didn’t complete on the hour of joy. Who wrote it? I don’t know.
